Information
The
scriptures used in today’s Bible lesson are: Genesis 1:1-31
II. Early arrival activities
Have wave bottles and tornado
bottles out for the children to experiment with. (Click
here for directions.) While they play, ask them if they
remember on what day God made the sky and the water.

"Genesis 1:1"
Memory Verse Card
Refer to Sunday Morning Week One.
“He’s Got the Whole World
in His Hands”
Have the children sit in a circle.
Have a small ball (call it the world) for the children to pass
around. As they pass it around sing the following verse:
He’s got the whole world in
His hands.
He’s got the whole world in
His hands.
He’s got the whole world in
His hands.
He’s got the whole world in
His hands.
When you finish, the child
holding the ball has to name something God created. Then use that object for
the next verse. (For example, the child said dog.)
He’s got the little bitty dog
in His hands.
He’s got the little bitty dog
in His hands.
He’s got the little bitty dog
in His hands.
He’s got the whole world in His
hands.
Continue until each child has
had a turn.
“Creation Fishing”
for patterns and directions.)
Lay all the fish face down on
the table. Have children take turns fishing for a
fish. As the children catch each fish, discuss what the
picture is and on what day God made the object. Then have
the child place their fish in the appropriate cup. For
example, if he catches a sun, it would go in the cup labeled
"4".
VI. Lesson Focus
The focus of today's lesson is to
reinforce that God created the sky and the water on the second
day of creation. Here are two activities to help reinforce this.
Choose the one that best fits your class of children. If time
permits, you may choose to do both.
“Wave bottles”
(Click
here for directions.)
Ask children to tell you what
God created on day 2. (skies and water) Explain that each
child is going to make a wave bottle to take home. Ask the
children, “If we wanted to see real waves, where do you think
we would go?” “What
kinds of things can you do in the waves?”
“Cloud Pictures”
Remind the children that God
created the sky on Day 2 of creation. Ask the children to name
some of the things we can see in the sky. Tell them that sometimes
clouds look like other things.
Read the book It Looked Like Spilled Milk, by: Charles G. Shaw. Discuss the “pictures” seen on each page. Give each child a piece
of blue construction paper and cotton balls. Let them glue the
cotton balls onto the paper to create a cloud picture. Write the
caption “God created the skies on day 2”, on the top of each
child’s paper. When
the pictures are dry, hang them on the walls of your classroom.
