For a lazy Sunday

These tours are intended to give people ideas of a journey only. The description of each place can be found under the respective page for that location.

Tour 1 Blackstairs Mountains
The first stop is the three friars. From there continue to Tory Hill. (It is a nice activity to climb Tory Hill and view the panoramic 360 degree vista from the top. You can actually see Tramore Bay and the metal man from here. Drive to Inistoige. The sights to see here are Woodstock and the picturesque village. From Woodstock continue on to Greiguemanagh. Once in Greiguemanagh, take some time to see the restored Duiske Abbey and the 8th century High Cross. (to the rear). There is a nice walk along the toe path to St. Mullins monastic settlement. Next head towards Borris. (You can actually walk the tow path from Greigue. To Borris) and take the turn towards Bunclody to Rathanna. From Rathanna head up the Blackstairs mountains, to Mount Leinster. Here is located on of the best spots in Ireland for Hang gliding. You can also take in a very nice walk up to Mount Leinster or along the ridges of the mountains. Journey into Bunclody and to the rear of the mountains and home via St. Mullins and New Ross.

Tour 2 South Kilkenny
The first stopis the Leac na Scele Dolmen in Harristown (Hugginstown). From here head to Famine Gardens (on the road to Knocktopher). Double back to the cross roads and go straight through to see the Agherviller Monastic settlement. Here you will find a round Tower and Ruined Church. To the rear is a castle.

Head towards Dunamaggin and onto Kells. In Kells explore the several mills and the ruins of the magnificent priory. The priory extends over a 10 acre site. From Kells head to Kilree (2 miles south). Here you will find the round tower and a ruined church. To the rear in a field is a very nice High Cross. Journey towards Bennetsbridge for a pottery lovers delight. There are several well known potters who operate from here (including Nicholas Moss). From Bennettsbridge go to Kilfane to see the old church and the Cantwell Fada. And finally go to Tullaherin to the round Tower and monastic site. The journey home will take you through Thomastown and Jerpoint Abbey.
