but generally this is your front door and you want to make it as user friendly as possible and to load as fast as possible even on the slower connections that many rural people have.

I believe the intro should be fairly brief and to the point but also entertaining and pleasing to the senses,this creates a situation where viewers are interested in continueing into your site to find out more of what it is you are attempting to bring to them.
