What is
Love?
Do you know what Love is?
Can you share the secret?
Is it tingling, touching, wanting, holding, kissing, knowing?
Is it pain, anguish, jealousy, lust, hurt, envy, suspicion?
I know what Love is!
Do you want to hear?
It’s the baby breath, the flowers, the white dress, the minister, the church,
the solemn covenant that you say, the oath of a lifetime, bells, friends,
family.
And later, it’s the excitement, birth, child, diapers, schooling,
college, tuition, job, bills, cars, house.
Even later, it becomes the beauty of a sunset, the calm of an
empty house, the arm of a loved one that holds you close as even the arm of Death
pulls you away.
Do you know what Love is?
God does and He shared it so
that we could glimpse it.
That’s what Love is.
Another Creative
Writing class assignment. This poem was one I chose to make a frame for—the
class was allowed to choose from scraps leftover from an Art class. We made
frames to go with the poem. My frame was, um, interesting…but the poem was
neat. At least I think so.
