The Assignment

Bajor...

Ranora awoke in a wooded area and found herself barely clothed. She had been attacked by a group of Bajoran teens. They feared her at first and figured they could take her on as a whole. They tried.

Ranora looked to her right and saw two girls lying about 30 feet from her. She noticed a young man to her left, and then she glanced down at the Bajoran phaser in her hand.

She figured she must have taken it from them when they attempted to fire on her. She could barely remember everything at the moment. Her head ached. Probably from a blow from one of the teens, she thought. Ranora noticed that one of the girls weren't breathing. Should she care? Why should she? They attacked her first. They were fortunate that Ranora didn't have access to a Cardassian disruptor, or they'd be vaporized. Then she wouldn't have to worry about the girl not breathing. She would just cease to exist! Ranora preferred it that way. Out of site, out of mind!

Ranora fiddled with the phaser for a higher setting than the one she used, but there wasn't one. Then she thought about reviving the girl, but what for? So that she could attack again? Forget it, Ranora thought. Ranora picked herself up off the damp ground. She noticed the smell of the forest. The air smelled of fruit. It had a calming sense about it. It pleased her as she tried to figure out why she was there in the first place.

Ranora tugged at her clothes to make them fit properly again. It didn't work. However, she was not indecent. She looked around to see if anything looked familiar, or that could help her figure out why she was here; on Bajor. She knew she had to be on Bajor. For one, there are no Bajorans near Cardassian territory, and she remembered the forest. This forest in particular. It was where she came on her first assignment. This was the same forest where she led a group of Bajorans, herself included into capture.

Ranora heard footsteps. She stopped walking and stooped behind a shrubbery. She watched as the footsteps grew nearer. Then she saw them. Her reason for coming back to Bajor. Two men and a woman. Kai Lonain and two guards. Kai Lonain was responsible for the deaths of several Cardassians as well as Romulans. She was great for causing and being involved in conspiracies.

She sold secrets of Romulan whereabouts to the Federation as well as the Klingon Empire. She made it so that Klingons had trapped several Romulan ships and nearly caused them to decline and back-down to the Klingons. Had it not been for the great mind of the Romulans and their own technology the Klingons may have had a chance. Many Romulan officers were hurt and killed during those times.

Kai Lonain was also responsible for the deaths of several Cardassian officers, Guls and even a Legate. The Legate she blamed for the death of her family. As though killing him would make it easier. What about the Legate's family? She was too caught up in her self-righteous, prophet abiding, Bajoran ways to care.

What about her damn prophets? Did her prophets tell her to kill? Did they tell her to sell out the Romulans, who had nothing to do with the Occupation? Did the cursed prophets warn her about the Romulan-Cardassian alliance that was created to put an end to her and her conspiring ways?

Ranora watched the Kai lift her long-flowing garb as she walked, which seemed slightly off color from the her olive complexion. The Kai never spoke, she just looked around and shook her head. The Kai was beautiful, even in her mature age; and was often rumored to have lent more sensual nights than advice to many men.

Ranora remembered now. She knew why she was there, on Bajor, in that forest. But where was the rest of the group? Where was her crew? Where was Mirekvaell? Jatrak? Taul? Ranora couldn't concentrate. She had to focus. She wanted to shoot the Kai, but with those constant guards, and the weak Bajoran phaser; she'd have less chance of survival than the Kai. It wasn't worth it. Now was not the time.

Five more guards came to the Kai's side. They noticed the Bajoran youths a few yards from where Ranora was hiding. The new guards knelt down to aid the still teens, and the main two guards that constantly remained with the Kai, took out their phasers and began to look around.

A hand came over Ranora's mouth and a hush was spoken in her ear. She knew it was Taul. She knew his scent. Ranora remained calm. He nearly lifted her off the ground with his other arm as they moved backwards away from the commotion. They joined up with their group. Mirekvaell frowned at Ranora.

Mirekvaell: "Why did you stray? You could've foiled the operation."

Ranora: "I apologize. I guess I got caught up in something."

Mirekvaell: "Let's all try to stay together, shall we?"

The others banded together and spoke among themselves. Mirekvaell walked over to Ranora.

Mirekvaell: "What were you thinking?"

Ranora: "I don't know. Something about this forest reminded me of another time. I‘m usually more focused."

Ranora tried to fight the slight embarrassment that came over her as her officers looked back at her. Ranora frowned at them and they turned away. Ranora continued to speak to Mirekvaell.

Ranora: "Those teens came out of nowhere. I never even saw them coming."

Mirekvaell: "If you were seen by the guards, or the Kai, everything would've been ruined. All our work...we could've been killed."

Ranora: "I know. I swear, it won't happen again."

Mirekvaell sensed sincerity in Ranora's voice and calmed her speech.

Mirekvaell: "We'll get to camp soon. You can change then."

Ranora nodded at Mirekvaell, because she was understanding, although she knew she was upset. They walked over to the others. They were still marking the best areas and times to get the Kai alone. When she slept seemed to be the best time, granted she slept alone; which she hadn't the prior night.

The group, which consisted of two teams; one from Romulus and the other from Cardassia. Mirekvaell lead the team from Romulus; her officers were Terrh, and Taul. Ranora lead the team of officers from Cardassia; who were Jatrak and Galina.

The teams camped just outside the Kai's homeground for the past two days. They noted that the Kai was never really alone. She had bathers, clothers, and yes, her constant guards that followed her everywhere.

Although the group could not see inside the castle-like home they were certain that guards stood outside her doors. If the group could find a way into the window of her room, that was no less than 100 feet from the ground, they would be set. They could finish the assignment and gain another victory for ch'Rihan and Kardassu.

The group watched intently as they noticed the guards were coming close to where they were. Mirekvaell drew her disruptor as did the others. Jatrak handed Ranora a disruptor. The group rested easily close to the ground. They were ready for whatever was about to happen. The guards came closer to them but moved away.

Mirekvaell was not ready to let her guard down. She was ready for the unexpected, as usual. She held her disruptor tight. Mirekvaell liked the kill. She was always excited at the mark of her injure. She wasn't mean, or displacement; just waiting for something out of order so that she could fix it. She knew when to make her move.

Ranora noticed how tense Mirekvaell had become. Although, the guards and the Kai began to move in the opposite direction, Mirekvaell had not lost stance. Terrh saw Mirekvaell begin to rise from her position. He stood near her, and was aware of her facial expression. Although, it was somewhat difficult for other races to read Romulans expressions, the Romulans knew what they were, and how to react. Jatrak also watched Mirekvaell. He was intrigued by her beauty. He wondered at the purple tint in her hair and wanted to run his hands through it. He wanted to hold her, he often thought about her since their last encounter. He knew that she must have some interest in him. He remembered the way she moved her lips, and the way her tongue played on them when she looked at him. He wanted to kiss her. He hadn't even heard Ranora speaking to him.

Ranora: "Jatrak!"

Jatrak noticed Mirekvaell's eyes on him as Ranora's voice grew. He looked at Ranora.

Jatrak: "I apologize. Co."

Ranora: "Forget it. Galina."

Galina came to Ranora and took the Bajoran phaser and placed it in a small bag. Jatrak watched and felt slightly embarrassed. He was glad that Mirekvaell hadn't paid much attention and focused back on the situation.

The Kai walked into the building with her guards. Her guards waited for her to enter but something made the Kai turn around. She was suspicious of something. She placed her hand to her face and looked at the forest as though she could see through the trees. The main guards were not surprised, this was a fashion of the Kai's. She was always suspicious about something.

The Kai walked out of the doorway and back towards the forest front. She closed her eyes and placed three fingers at her brow and listened. She opened her eyes and watched the other guards carry the teens off her property. She wondered why the youths had been lying there; stunned by Bajoran phasers. She knew something was wrong. She would have an investigation.

The group was safe for now. They began to moved towards their camp.

Mirekvaell: "We were lucky that time. I still say that we should remain together and not be lead astray by anything."

Ranora knew that Mirekvaell meant her. She understood what Mirekvaell meant, and that she had put the group in danger by her carelessness. It wasn't like Ranora to become displaced, or lose control of a situation. She was angered at herself, especially since this was her first time commanding a team, even if it was only two officers. It was still her team. Ranora knew that their reports could hurt her chances in earning her title as third grade glin. She would have to be sharper now.

Ranora briefly thought about Rajin and what he went through. The poor guy. He wasn't really all that bad, he just didn't like work, unless someone else was doing it for him. He requested time off from his last assignment and was on the verge of seeking mental help. What difference did it make? His family would take care of him anyway.

Ranora looked at Galina who was trailing to the side. Galina knew that they were to follow in a specific pattern. What was wrong with her? Galina had always been careful with details.

Ranora: "Galina."

Galina stopped walking at looked at Ranora.

Ranora: "Have you forgotten your position?"

Galina: "No."

Ranora: "Why are you traveling out of sinc? You know we travel in a pattern so that we leave

no marks."

Galina rolled her eyes and moved behind Jatrak who was near Mirekvaell.

Ranora: "Don't do it again."

Mirekvaell turned to Ranora and spoke softly.

Mirekvaell: "Ranora."

Ranora looked at Mirekvaell and realized that she was taking something out on Galina that wasn't her fault. Mirekvaell continued her walk near Ranora, to calm her. Ranora looked at Mirekvaell and continued until they reached the campsite.

Ranora: "I hadn't even noticed that I..."

Mirekvaell: "It's okay. I think we're all tense. The assignment is taking longer than planned."

Ranora: "What is tomorrow? Day three? I've been on long-term assignments before but this is the longest short-term one yet."

Mirekvaell: "We'd be done by now if it weren't for that Bah'jorann thrai'vnau."

Ranora: "I like that. What'd you say?"

Mirekvaell: "A more appropriate translation would be, Bahjoran loose wolverine. Or as you would say, B'joran slut."

Ranora laughed.

Ranora: "Ah, now we know what our commanders meant by her being, open for business."

Mirekvaell: "Ie. Now wonder her guards are somewhat handsome. It makes it easier for her to 'pay' them."

Ranora laughed. She too wondered if the Kai was sleeping with her guards. Jatrak smiled. He heard little what Mirekvaell and Ranora were saying, but he heard Mirekvaell's voice, and that was enough for him. He wondered where she would sleep tonight since Mirekvaell never slept in the same spot and was usually the last one to fall asleep; unless she had a busy day, or evening. Jatrak thought of ways her could keep her busy this evening, if she would allow him.

Taul smiled at Ranora's voice. He was only on this assignment to see her again. They hadn't seen each other in over five years, however they did keep contact. Ranora was glad he came. She wanted more than just to see him again. Taul knew that. He knew that Ranora held him in high regards, and wondered if she still felt the same after being apart for so long.

Terrh walked behind Galina closely. Jatrak looked back and saw his lips press together. He thought Terrh was strange because he didn't speak much, unless it was required. And Jatrak couldn’t read his expressions although, he was aware that he had them. Terrh was always told his expressions were different. Even by other Romulans. He liked being different, he thought it gave him an edge, which it did. At the moment he was thinking of things he'd like to do to Galina.

*2* The Campsite...

The groups made it back to the campsite. There were two manmade coves that were hidden so well you would have to know they were there to see them. Mirekvaell took leave, she found a spot near the well hidden cove they arranged, which worked as a good hiding place as well. Although, they were out of any clear danger as they were off the Kai's land, they still didn't want to take any chances.

Ranora started towards the one her team used but noticed that Galina and Jatrak had already gone inside. Ranora focused on Taul. She noticed that he was looking at the Bajoran phaser that was in the pouch that Galina had thrown down.

Ranora was glad to be working with the Romulans again. She liked working with them. She liked working with Taul. She noticed slight perspiration form on his raised forehead. She loved his raised forehead. She remembered how she used to kiss him and smoothed over his forehead with her fingers. She loved him so much. She still did. Ranora would marry Taul and never look back if he asked her to. Dukat, Ranora thought. She did love Dukat. But he already had his family, his children, people to grow old with. Ranora had nobody; and Taul had nobody, which Ranora hoped to change.

She continued to watch his face as he concentrated on the phaser. He was becoming tense, but not angry. Ranora could think of a few ways to ease his tension. She could take him now; on the soft ground and make him forget about that bloody Bajoran phaser. But she knew she couldn't. Only because Taul pleased her fully, and she wouldn't be able to remain quiet under his force.

She focused on his hands. They were powerful, and strong, like the rest of him. He looked up at her. He didn't even notice that she was watching him. He smiled at her. Ranora smiled back and took a few steps closer to him. There was no one around, but anyone could come out at any moment and see them. Taul stood up and grabbed Ranora. He rubbed his face on her forehead. She rubbed her nose on his neck. Jatrak came from the cove and wasn't sure if he saw what he thought he saw. It had gotten dark rather quickly and there was no light from the moons over Bajor just yet. She moved towards his mouth to kiss him. Jatrak spoke.

Jatrak: "Glin Ranora. Tarvu?"

Ranora and Taul moved away from each other quickly. Ranora was upset, but hid it better than she had with Galina.

Ranora: "Co. I'm fine."

Taul: "We are handling rations to make sure there are enough to go around."

Ranora laughed lightly. Taul was great at lying and could come up with a story on the spot. He spoke so that you would believe everything as though your life depended on it. Ranora once told him that he'd make a great Cardassian, he replied to her telling her that he made an even better Romulan. She didn't complain.

Mirekvaell sat in the cove and thought about what to do next. What approach they should take to kill the Kai. Terrh would stand watch for the first half of this evening. She thought they should've planned this event to take place this evening. The group already hadn't slept since the night before the last, as they had been up watching the Kai and one of her many lovers play the night away. She wondered if the Kai would be busy tonight. She should find out. She wouldn't tell the others, no one was as quiet as her. Especially that Cardassian Galina. She sneezed so much that it was amazing the Kai hadn't heard her. She would have to think of a plan.

Mirekvaell heard footsteps near the entrance, but they were heavy steps so she knew they weren't Taul's or Terrh's. She grabbed her kaleh and sat still. Jatrak came to Mirekvaell's cove and asked to speak to her. Mirekvaell heard his voice and replaced her kaleh in it's hiding spot.

Jatrak: "Mirekvaell? May I come in?"

Mirekvaell knew he wanted more than just to come in. But why not? Terrh was to stand watch for a few hours, and she knew that Ranora would keep Taul busy. The cove was hers.

Mirekvaell: "Jatrak. You may enter."

He wondered for a second how she knew it was him. Jatrak was glad that she'd let him in. He didn't really doubt that she would though. He knew she was interested in him, he just didn't know how to come across to her. Was she used to men coming after her? She must be. She was so beautiful. It was amazing that she wasn't already bonded. Mirekvaell handed him a cup of warm water. She warmed it with her disruptor while she thought.

Jatrak: "Thank you."

Mirekvaell nodded.

Mirekvaell: "How do you want me?"

Jatrak nearly choked on his sip of water. How did she know? She couldn't be talking about that. Could she?

Jatrak: "I'm sorry. I don't understand your question."

Mirekvaell: "Oh? You don't? Perhaps, I can help you understand?"

Mirekvaell removed her metal fatigue. Jatrak was becoming more excited. He couldn't believe he was with her, and now she was showing interest in him. He couldn't control himself. He moved to her. He held her and kissed her. Mirekvaell smiled as he kissed her. She knew that he would get her meaning with the help of some visuals.

Jatrak had already removed his metal casing before coming to the cove. He lie on top of Mirekvaell and removed the rest of her clothing. Mirekvaell ran her fingers on Jatrak's back. She wasn't surprised at the ridges on his skin, she just figured it would be rougher than it was. She let her hands press against his skin and she felt him press hard against her. His hand were all over her, Mirekvaell thought he was either new to Romulans or new to the whole experience.

Jatrak sucked on Mirekvaell's breasts and held her neck with his left hand as his right hand proceeded to her inner thighs. Mirekvaell kissed the ridges on his neck and held him close. She moaned lightly at his foreplay and enjoyed his massage techniques.

Jatrak squeezed her waist tight and pulled her close to him. She knew then, that he wasn't new to the experience. She felt him enter her with great force. He was rough but soft. Mirekvaell moaned loud and tried to remember where she was, but found it hard with Jatrak's pounding. She moved with him and scratched at his back and felt his spine. She had never been with a Cardassian before but was beginning to wonder what took her so long. She realized that she had always been pleased by Romulan men and found no need to be with anyone other than Romulans.

Jatrak was becoming tense, his movement became faster, and Mirekvaell moaned louder. He moaned softly with her. She noticed Jatrak leading her and that he must've wanted her badly. Mirekvaell let him lead, she knew that he needed it more than she did. He would probably mark this day and celebrate it throughout the years, Mirekvaell thought. Jatrak held her breasts with both hands as he kissed her mouth and neck while he moved in her. Mirekvaell enjoyed him, and wouldn't mind his pleasures again if time permitted.

Mirekvaell moved her hands wildly over his back and shoulders and pulled him closer to her. She could feel Jatrak grab onto her waist again and hold her tight as he was beginning to finish. He tried to hold back so that Mirekvaell could climax first. He knew it was important for her to be pleased before himself. He felt her thighs tighten around him and he knew she was ready. He moved faster and rubbed harder against her body. Her body was strong and soft under his. She could withstand anything, he thought. Mirekvaell's moans became louder with Jatrak's movement. He could feel her warmth and he released himself in her. He felt her climax and continued to move in her. He kissed and licked her mouth as he finished.

Mirekvaell was beginning to tire but knew she wanted to see if she could get the Kai alone. She moaned lightly as Jatrak sucked on her ears, and her neck. She thought he was a good lover, he should tire soon. Just as Mirekvaell thought that, she noticed that Jatrak's eyes were closed, he just continued to kissed he neck and shoulders. She waited until he fell asleep and moved quietly. She begin to dress and walked carefully towards the entrance where she would put her shoes on. She placed her kaleh at her side, and her disruptor at the other. She watched Terrh as he kept watch. She could easily distract him but though of how she was going to do it. She saw some small pebbles at her foot and grabbed a hand full. She threw them one by one in different directions, but concentrated on one are in particular.

Terrh became upset and thought about the guards that were suspiciously close to them earlier. He walked over to where he heard noise. Ranora saw Mirekvaell and followed her. Ranora would have to get her attention so that she would know it was her. Mirekvaell was fast with her kills, she knew that. Mirekvaell made her way to the forest exit which became the group's entrance to the Kai's homeground.

*3 & 4* On the Kai's Homeground...

Mirekvaell thought she heard footsteps behind her. She thought about Ranora's run in with the teens from earlier and pulled her disruptor. She turned around but didn't see anything. She continued to walk towards the Kai's gates. Mirekvaell was nearly there until she heard a voice. It was Ranora. She whispered.

Ranora: "Mirekvaell."

Mirekvaell turned around but didn't see her. It was quite dark and Mirekvaell was already upset at the fact she had been followed. She whispered back.

Mirekvaell: "Where are you? I don't see you. Ranora?"

Ranora: "Yes. I'm here."

Ranora walked closer to Mirekvaell so that she could see her. Mirekvaell took a deep breath and replaced her disruptor at her side.

Mirekvaell: "Do you know how lucky you are?"

Ranora: "Yes. I do."

Mirekvaell: "Come join me. I'm going to kill the Kai tonight."

Ranora: "We're going to kill the Kai tonight."

Mirekvaell smiled. Ranora joined her and they both walked toward the gates. When they made their way to the gates, they climbed a nearby trellis that held part of the group the previous night while the Kai was entertaining. The trellis gave them sight into the Kai's private room and the two could see that the Kai was not there. It was late and the Kai was usually resting at this time; or busy with guests.

The two were secure in their position when they heard footsteps in the back end of the forest. The figured it was guards. But why would guards be out tonight and not the privious nights? Then they remembered it must have been the earlier incident that triggered the Kai to take such action. The Kai was obviously disturbed. She walked into the room where she slept. Then she left. She walked in again and sat in one of her chairs, that could serve as a couch for a child or two. Mirekvaell and Ranora watched her intently as the Kai removed herself once again from the room. She was yelling at someone. Not necessarily yelling, but made sure that her voice traveled. Neither one of them knew what she said, the Kai spoke Bajoran. Mirekvaell was familiar with a few Bajoran terms, but Ranora always thought that it was a waste of time to learn the language of what she thought was a lower lifeform.

Although, the great size of the many leaves that surrounded the Kai's window hid Ranora and Mirekvaell well, they were still somewhat nervous when the Kai stood at her window for a few seconds, which seemed like minutes. Mirekvaell grasped her kaleh, but hadn't drew it. Ranora placed her hand on her disruptor. At this point neither one of them cared if they were going to die. They would at least kill the Kai, which would spare the lives of other Cardassians and Romulans. To them it was worth it. This kill was more than just a self-fulfilled victory, it was a victory for their races as well.

The Kai removed herself from the window and walked over to her bed. She stood there for a long time. Ranora looked down and pointed out to Mirekvaell that there was someone below them. There were three people that stood at the base of one of the near by trees. It was difficult to make them out because it was still too dark. Mirekvaell figured them for guards and motioned for Ranora to remain still. They both were silent and motionless.

They continued to watch the Kai stand over her bed. She looked sown at her bed as though she were expecting it to do something. Then out of nowhere, the Kai slapped the back of her right hand a few times against the open palm of her right hand. Nothing happened. Ranora and Mirekvaell thought that some kind of aid would come to her, but no one responded. Then they figured it must mean something else. Mirekvaell looked around. She became suspicious. She thought maybe aid was suppose to come outside, perhaps the Kai knew something. There was more noise beneath the two of them, and the small group of three were still at the base of the tree as before. It was strange. Too strange Ranora thought. Something was wrong. The Kai must've known they were there.

Mirekvaell looked at Ranora, but didn't say anything, Ranora could almost read her face in the darkness. Mirekvaell would not be caught! She refused to be taken alive. She would get in at least three kills before she was to go.

Ranora would have to follow Mirekvaell's fate. Ranora knew that if she was seen she would be the first one to die. A Cardassian on Bajor! Her family would be shamed. She would have to at least do what she came for.

Mirekvaell and Ranora both drew their disruptors. Then a young female aid came to the Kai's room and another followed behind the first. They walked behind the Kai and removed her robe. While one place the robe on a chair the other pulled back the bedsheets so that the Kai could lie down.

Ranora wondered what exactly had this woman done to be regarded so well? She couldn't be all that great.

Mirekvaell didn't care how great the Kai was regarded. Mirekvaell just wanted her dead, and she wanted to do the honors.

* Hours Later...

Ranora and Mirekvaell stood watch as the Kai shifted in her sleep. One of the two females that sat in the chair had fallen asleep. The other chanted something in Bajoran. They could hear her but still had no idea what she was saying. It almost sounded like prayers or songs. Perhaps, it was both. They were just waiting for the right time to make their move. They noticed that the people at the foot of the nearby tree had also fallen restless and slept on the ground in the same position they stood earlier.

At least the Kai was alone tonight, and she was more vulnerable alone. The two females in the room posed little threat, since they had no weapons; and the fact they were beginning to fall asleep. Mirekvaell watched the young Bajoran woman's eyes as she mumbled herself to sleep with her chants. Ranora kept her eyes on the people below. Mirekvaell was ready to make her move, but would be able to maneuver better with someone watching. Ranora knew what to do. They were certain that guards were at the doors as well, and they couldn't take the chance on one of those women waking the Kai or alarming anyone with their screams. They would have to die as well, preferably before the Kai.

Mirekvaell aimed her kaleh towards the woman that had just fallen asleep. She would have to die first. The one already sleep wouldn't awake as quick as her nor would she be as startled. Ranora watched and nodded an okay. Mirekvaell threw her kaleh and saw it slam into the woman's chest. Ranora frowned as the woman drew in a breath and breathed out one last time. She never opened her eyes. The blood began to flow onto the woman seated next to her. She shifted a few times; at the warm wetness that was beginning to sink into the couch no doubt.

Ranora aimed her disruptor and Mirekvaell gave a quick nod. Mirekvaell watched the beings on the ground below. There was no movement from them, which was a good sign. The woman moved over and began to awake. Ranora fired on her, and the woman's eyes opened before she completely dematerialized. Mirekvaell and Ranora had gotten half of their job done. They had eliminated the obstacles in the room, all that remainded was the Kai. Ranora wanted to kill her, but so did Mirekvaell. It didn't really matter who killed her, just as long as she died for her crimes against Romulus and Cardassia.

Mirekvaell was about to move in toward the Kai's window that always remained open. Ranora kept watch towards the tree. It was all clear. Mirekvaell stopped moving and Ranora wondered why. She hadn't seen what Mirekvaell saw. The Kai sat up in her bed. She must have known something was wrong. Ranora was mad. How could this woman be so spiritually intoned and be so destructive at the same time? She wanted to fire on her right then, but Mirekvaell put her hand up as a silencer.

The Kai lay back down. She shifted her weight so that she faced the window which made it difficult for Mirekvaell to move any further. She was already stretching in an awkward position to hold her balance. Ranora grabbed her hand to pull her slowly back onto the trellis. Mirekvaell was quite acrobatic with her movements and insisted a look to Ranora that she was fine. But she was still thankful for the aid she lent.

The silence had been broken. There was a commotion at the front gates to the Kai's homeground. Mirekvaell frowned. The Kai jumped up and ran to her door where two men, guards greet her. Mirekvaell and Ranora would be found if they couldn't remove themselves from the trellis. The people that lie at the base of the tree below awoke an d aimed phasers as they stood their positions. They were guards! Mirekvaell and Ranora knew they only had one place they could go. In the Kai's room. Lights began to make their way to the back of the forest and they had to get in before the lights shone up the trellis. Mirekvaell jumped in first and then pulled Ranora in.

There was even more commotion inside than out it seemed. The two hid behind a large chest that appeared only to hold clothes and useless Bajoran artifacts. Four or five more guards ran past Kai Lonain's room. No one had even noticed the dead woman on the couch. It was still dark in the room, besides what little light came from the hall. Mirekvaell saw the chance and ran over and pulled her kaleh from the woman's body. She wiped it off on the Kai's furniture and placed it back at her side. She then made her way back over to where Ranora was. Ranora whispered.

Ranora: "I think I should shoot her."

Mirekvaell: "Why? She's dead."

Ranora: "Yes, but at least there won't be a body."

Mirekvaell didn't get Ranora's point. She was already dead. Whether there was a body or not, didn't really matter. The woman's life had practically spilt all over the furniture anyway. They would still be suspicious. Mirekvaell let Ranora have her fun.

Mirekvaell: "If it pleases you, then by all means."

As Ranora was about to raise her arm to aim at the couch, the Kai entered the room. She was alone, but only for a brief moment. Still she hadn't noticed the woman. Mirekvaell was getting anxious. She just wanted the Kai to come in one more time. She was ready. Two guards came into the room. The lights came on and the room was brightened. They noticed the woman and ran to the window. They didn't think anyone had come through the window, they thought that someone stabbed the girl while she slept, but entered through one of the doorways on one of the lower floors.

Although, the Bajorans spoke fast, Mirekvaell could make out some of it. She remained quiet as did Ranora. They weren't really worried about their teams but were more focused on how to get out of the Kai's home without being seen. Three women came in chanting the same prayed, removed the woman from the couch. There was an all out search of the grounds. The Kai was aware that someone was trying to kill her. Ranora and Mirekvaell, knew they had little chance of completing their operation now, but would still have to find a way, no matter how long it took.

It didn't take long to hear an army of guards gathered in a one spot yelling at something they found. There it was. The reason why they would have to work harder at their mission. A Klingon. He was found hiding in one of the bushes near the front entrance. He couldn't escape because he had triggered some alarm which placed an ECF, or Electric Confinement Field around the Kai's homeground to electrocute anyone that touched it. The guards knew where it was and not to get too close to it. The ECF was disabled and the Klingon was thought to be the one that killed the woman as well. They could hear him being asked what he did with the other woman as the Klingon repeatedly replied he was innocent of all charges. His death would come soon, but it was just as well. Mirekvaell hated Klingons, as much as or more that Ranora hated Bajorans. Mirekvaell smiled as they heard the Klingon being beaten while lead to his cell.

At the moment the room was covered with women cleaning the Kai's furniture and floor where blood dripped when the dead woman was carried away. Mirekvaell leaded against the wall with Ranora. There was actually enough room for them to lengthen their legs and rest. Mirekvaell didn't want to chance it and shook her head at Ranora. Ranora pulled her legs in and closed her eyes. The lights went off in the room, but the door remained open, and the Kai was nowhere in sight. Mirekvaell tried to rest, but nearly slept with one eye open.

*5 & 6* In the Kai's Room...

Mirekvaell started to drift off asleep as Ranora did. She moaned lightly. Ranora was not bothered by it, because she was deep in sleep and dreaming of sensual thoughts as well.

Mirekvaell thought about when the Praetor called her in and asked her to carry this assignment. It was a favor to him that she accepted this assignment. Praetor Tafv was first drawn to Mirekvaell because of her beauty. When she saved his life by killing one of his guards that attempted to kill him, Tafv fell in love with her. He was intrigued by her round face and the way her raised forehead was formed. Not to mention the deep purple tint in her hair, which made him wonder about her. It made her more mysterious. He liked mysterious women. He liked her.

Mirekvaell was strong-willed and followed her own rules most of the time, sometimes on the border of Romulan standards. Tafv knew that he could never keep her as a bond-mate, although he had thought of asking her. Even when he had a feast-like dinner prepared for her to wish her a glorious journey on her conquest, he thought about asking her. Tafv had no idea that Mirekvaell thought about him in a sensual way as he thought about her. She made that known in the middle of the third course.

The Praetor asked her what she wanted for dessert and Mirekvaell looked at him with her deep-set eyes. She was thinking of having him, but would have to see where the evening lead. She winked at him and smiled. The Praetor got nervous and shifted in his chair. Mirekvaell smiled as she glanced down at her plate.

Mirekvaell: "Do I make you nervous."

The Praetor didn't know what to say, although, he kept his stature when he responded.

Tafv: "Nervous? I am not nervous."

Mirekvaell: "Are you saying that I'm wrong in my analysis?"

Tafv: "I was not aware you were running an analysis on me."

Mirekvaell smiled and knew that the Praetor was as brilliant as she was, and figured now was a time to challenge him.

Mirekvaell: "I run an analysis on everything."

Tafv: "Do you?"

Mirekvaell nodded with her slight smile.

Tafv: "Have you found anything that you like? In other words, have you come across anything in particular that pleases you?"

Mirekvaell: "Many things please me. You'll have to reinstate your question; or perhaps, your meaning."

Tafv watched Mirekvaell let the glass of Romulan ale play an her mouth as she held the glass at her lips. She sipped slowly and kept her eyes on him the whole time.

Tafv: "Perhaps, I can convince you in a game."

Mirekvaell: "I like games."

Tafv: "Maybe you'll like this one too."

Mirekvaell wondered what the Praetor was thinking. She didn't really mind, she would play his games. She would like to do more than play, she wanted to control the game and win. Nobody plays a game to lose. She thought he must have something planned.

Mirekvaell watched Praetor Tafv come over to her as he placed his hand before her. She grabbed his hand and looked up at him. He smiled. He lead her over to a table where he motioned for her to sit upon. She wasn't sure what he had in store, but she waited for him to go around the other side if the table and elevate himself. Mirekvaell followed and sat on the table as well, and folded her legs as he did.

Tafv placed his hands to his head and focused on Mirekvaell. Mirekvaell wasn't exactly sure what kind of game the Praetor had in mind. She wondered if he was using his mind abilities to convince her into something she hadn't yet agreed to. She watched him as he continued. Tafv closed his eyes and frowned slightly as though he were concentrating on something. Mirekvaell was interested in his physical appearance more than his mental abilities.

Mirekvaell noticed the dark black hair and the dark brown eyes that Tafv possessed. His eyes were so dark brown they were often considered black. He was sought by many women and his bond-servants wouldn't complain. She could tell that he had to be a great lover. His hands and arms were strong. She could see nearly see the muscles under the robe the Praetor wore. Maybe she was just fantasizing about it, so she thought she saw it. No. She knew it was real. He was a well sized man under his clothes. Mirekvaell was trying to make out his physique as he was trying to read her mind.

Tafv was becoming slightly frustrated. He couldn't tap into Mirekvaell's mind. Mirekvaell saw him open his eyes a few times. She knew now what he was trying to do. Mirekvaell's mind was too strong to be tapped into. She had learned to control her thought and to block others from her thoughts when the time was right. And with the thoughts she was having about the Praetor, she didn't want anyone to know.

He opened his eyes again, and looked at her. Mirekvaell smiled.

Mirekvaell: "Some game."

Tafv was slightly put off by her remark and would have to make up for it.

Tafv: "It's not turning out the way I planned."

Mirekvaell: "I wouldn't know. I still don't know what the objective is."

Tafv was beginning to wonder if she was playing with his mind. If Mirekvaell really did know what he was trying to do, but had become better than he at his favorite game.

Tafv: "I could show you the objective."

Mirekvaell: "That's what I'm waiting for."

Tafv: "Mayri. Follow me."

Tafv walked over to where Mirekvaell was and he was going to help her down only to find that she had already descended from the table. He was hoping that he could intentionally, accidentally touch her somewhere on her body. Mirekvaell knew little what was on the Praetor's mind, but he had convinced her to follow him wherever he was leading her. She noticed the Praetor was very convincing. He had to be, to be the Praetor.

Tafv lead Mirekvaell to a dark but soft lit room. His hand tightened around Mirekvaell's fingers as he thought she was trying to let go. She wouldn’t let go of him. She was actually trying to get a better grip, but didn't mind that he had done the job for her. She followed him trough two adjoining rooms that only allowed privacy through the sheer curtains that flowed from the ceiling to the floor. Mirekvaell thought it was beautiful and wouldn't mind spending the rest of her life there. But she would not settle down. At least not this early. She didn't know when and didn't want to think about it.

He lead her to a room that had even less light, and on the floor in the center of the room was a large deep purple rug that matched the color in Mirekvaell's hair and made her eyes appear the same color. The Praetor was stunned to look at her and see that she was impressed. He had hoped to impress her. He knew that she wouldn't be easy to convince, because she took things at face value, no matter who you were. She was not one to bow down or praise someone because they were revered highly. He would have to earn his honor with her.

As far Mirekvaell was concerned, he had earned his honor. She thought highly of the Praetor, but just didn't let him know that. She followed Tafv's lead as he led her to the floor with his hand. He didn't let go of her. In fact after they sat down, he grabbed onto her other hand as well. Mirekvaell wanted to speak but knew that it wasn't the time, so she didn't. They faced each other as they sat on the purple rug in the semi-dark room.

Tafv: "We can concentrate here more easily. I will show you the objective to the game."

Tafv closed his eyes, and Mirekvaell thought she should close hers too. She kept her mind blocked. She wondered what he would do, how he would react. Tafv opened his eyes again. He was beginning to wonder. Mirekvaell didn't see him open his eyes the second time, but she felt his frustration.

She allowed him in this time. She opened her mind so that she could see into his. Mirekvaell was happy with what she saw, as was the Praetor. He reached over and kissed her on her lips as she sat with her eyes closed. She knew that's what he wanted. She wanted him as well. The Praetor, she thought. She would have to keep this stored as confidential.

Mirekvaell moved towards him as well. He moved gently and made his way over to her and placed his right hand on her left thigh. She rubbed his shoulders and pressed the robe off of him. Tafv was flesh underneath. Mirekvaell couldn't believe it. She tried not to seem surprised as she knew the Praetor's mind was as strong as hers, and had the ability to sense her admiration. She tried to kiss him as softly as he did, but couldn't control herself. Mirekvaell pressed her lips hard against his. Tafv responded with the same amount of pressure.

The Praetor reached his hands to hold her face and kissed her on her neck as he pulled at her tunic. Mirekvaell could barely keep her hands off Tafv, she grabbed his waist and reached her arms around him and felt the muscles on his back. He was very strong both physically and mentally. How could he not yet be bonded, she thought. But the Praetor was a very particular man, he liked his women a certain way, and he liked Mirekvaell.

Tafv had gotten Mirekvaell's tunic off. He pulled her close so that he could feel her breasts press against his chest. He was still soft in his touch as he ran his hands gently down her back. Mirekvaell sucked on his lips and his licked his ears.

Tafv whispered sensual words to her in Romulan. She could barely make out some of it, as she was concentrating on his hot skin against hers and the sound of his voice.

Tafv: "Hnalo thlo hru'fir. Hwiiy jhu."

Mirekvaell could hardly speak, she was so into what the Praetor was doing; and how he was doing it.

Mirekvaell: "Hann'yyo, thlo sahe'lagga."

Tafv laid her down gently and pressed himself against her. Mirekvaell complied and pulled him close. He kissed her so deeply that she was surprised at his sudden entry. She pulled at his waist and he placed himself fully in her. Tafv started slow to let Mirekvaell get used to him and so that he could get used to her. He was enjoying her and breathed hard on her neck as he bite softly. She scratched lightly at his back and began to press her nails deep into his shoulders.

Tafv was beginning to accelerate as he could feel Mirekvaell's request for him as she pulled gently at his hair and moaned in his ear. He spoke as he moved, but it was low and muffled. She kissed him to keep him quiet and he continued to move faster, pressing himself on her. She could feel his persistant emphatic repetition become stronger. Mirekvaell tried to control her thoughts and her moans, but couldn't. She didn't care anymore. If the Praetor was this pleasing he deserved to know everything she thought about him. She moaned louder in his ears as she made marks of pleasure on his back. He moved moderately faster, pulling her along with him and squeezing her breasts. She felt the muscles in his back and shoulder blades contract as he moved. She tried to pull him closer than he already was.

Tafv: "Au'e...hnalo hna au..."

Tafv became more excited as he continued to move in her; with her. He wanted to make sure that he was fulfilling to her, and he could feel that he was. He knew that she wanted him as much as he wanted her. If he could have her as his wife he would make sure that she was always happy. He could feel Mirekvaell become hotter as she moaned in her kisses on his neck. Tafv sucked on her breasts and made her nipples tender with his tongue; he held her tight on her waist as he moved.

Mirekvaell squeezed his butt with her hands and his legs with her thighs, as she let out screams of enjoyment. Tafv was happy, he would never forget this night. He hoped it wouldn't be the only night with her. He was nearing his performance and could feel Mirekvaell become tense as she moved with him. She had intended to turn him over and finish the game he started, but she figured that she would difintely have her way next time. Next time? There would be a next time; there would have to be.

Mirekvaell pressed her nails in Tafv's back as he finished. She closed her eyes and let herself go in Tafv's pleasures. He was coming to an end and moaned nearly as loud as Mirekvaell did. Tafv was passionate in his love-making and wanted to make sure that Mirekvaell could feel that; and she did. Tafv held Mirekvaell close and finished. She still held onto him tightly; Tafv didn't want her to let go. He kissed her breasts and sucked on them. Mirekvaell kissed his forehead and he kissed her mouth. Tafv still was soft with his touch but was becoming tired and wanted to sleep. He would hope that she was still there in the morning.

Mirekvaell kissed him and knew that he was tired. She thought about making him please her again just so that she feel that had really won his game. But she felt for him, as she watched his eyes close as he continued to kiss her and whisper to her.

Tafv: "Jol ao au, Mirekvaell."

Mirekvaell smiled and returned the words.

Mirekvaell: "I jol au."

Tafv: "Shad onre."

Mirekvaell feel asleep in his arms and she held onto him as a promise that she would be there in the morning.

* Later that Evening...

Mirekvaell moaned in her sleep, and Ranora awoke. She tapped Mirekvaell to wake up. Mirekvaell looked at her and frowned. They noticed that the room was silent, and that silence was throughout the house. Mirekvaell moved to look from behind the wooden chest that hid her and didn't see anything or anyone. She nodded to Ranora that it was okay. The door was semi-open and a little light came in from another room that was lit down the hall.

Ranora looked over at the Kai's bed and notice that it was empty. Mirekvaell was still upset that her last few hours with Tafv were only a dream, a memory. She had to concentrate. She knew what to do. They heard someone coming from the hall and thought they would enter. They rushed back to their hidden spot, but the person just passed by. They looked through the Kai's things to see if there was anything of value that could be taken back and either sold or kept as a winning of their accomplishment.

The Kai walked down the hall with her guards. She spoke loud. Mirekvaell and Ranora took careful movement to replace themselves at the chest. They had moved quite a distance and were becoming too comfortable in the room. They made it safely to the chest and stayed there. Kai Lonain spoke in Bajoran and called for another sweep in the forest to make sure that the Klingon was the only intruder on her grounds.

Mirekvaell wondered what the Klingon was doing there as well. Was he trying to kill her too? She would have to kill him first. How dare a Klingon steal her kill; she would have three kills if it was necessary. Maybe more.

Ranora looked up at the window and noticed that it was beginning to get light out. She knew that there would be no way for them to escape now. She thought about her team and hoped they didn't do anything irrational. She was glad that Taul was there. He'd know what to do. She wanted to be with him, but tried not to think about him now. Mirekvaell looked at Ranora and whispered.

Mirekvaell: "We will have to spend another evening here. Are you alright?"

Ranora: "Yes. I'm fine. I was just thinking the same thing myself."

Mirekvaell: "Is your team aware of what to do in an event that you're not there?"

Ranora: "Yes. I hope they comply with the operation. I have confidence in them."

Mirekvaell: "Full confidence?"

Ranora: "Yes."

Ranora looked away and spoke again.

Ranora: "Full confidence."

Mirekvaell knew that Ranora was lying about having full confidence in her team. They were fresh out of the Academy and this was their first assignment. But she didn't blame her. If she wanted to believe that, then it was fine. Whatever keeps her focused on this mission. Mirekvaell saw the shadow of the Kai before she entered the room.

Kai Lonain stood a few meters from the chest and looked around. They wondered if she noticed whether things had been moved around or not. She walked around the room for a few minutes and started mumbling something in Bajoran. Ranora was becoming angered at her presence and showed Mirekvaell her disruptor. Mirekvaell shook her head. She knew the time wasn't right and she was correct. A Guard came in and spoke to the Kai in Bajoran. They both left the room, and they saw the other guard follow as well.

Ranora and Mirekvaell sat still and heard a noise from the floor. They were wondering what it was. Then it got louder. It started pounding underneath them. They were sitting on a vent cover and figured it was some creature in the vents. Mirekvaell started to open it, but Ranora shook her head. Ranora thought it was a vole or some vicious creature. Then it sounded like muffled speaking. They couldn't make the language out but Mirekvaell was determined to find out what or who it was. Ranora helped her pull off the cover. There was another cover, but it was transparent. They didn't see anything but the clear cover and the metal tracks from the vent. Ranora was mad, because she didn't want to open it in the first place. Mirekvaell didn't care. She wanted to know what it was.

Mirekvaell looked in the vent and saw something moving. She poked Ranora and pointed. They both saw someone walking around and speaking rapidly. It was obvious that whoever it was swearing. He threw his fists around and looked up at the vent. He saw that the vent was open.

Mirekvaell frowned and noticed it was a Klingon. Ranora already had her disruptor drawn and tried to shoot him. The Klingon moved. It was hard to see and Ranora became upset.

Mirekvaell: "V'yy'al klivam fvai."

Mirekvaell heard someone coming. They closed the vent. Mirekvaell as well as Ranora were furious. That Klingon would ruin it for them. He had to die.

They remained silent throughout the day and had no more visits from the Klingon.

*7 & 8* At the Campsite...

Taul round up the teams to brief them on what they should do in the absence of their superior officers. Terrh and Jatrak round up the supplies that they came with so that everything was in order. The weapons were secured, some were placed on the officers and the rations were bagged in a pouch.

Galina was put in charge of the rations. She watched Taul as he drew a map of the Kai's home on the ground including his knowledge of underground tunnels and hidden rooms. He mentioned that their superior officers may have been captured if not killed. Taul hated to think that Ranora or Mirekvaell might not have lived to see this victory. He really hated to think of Ranora as dead. He was still in love with her, but tried to remember the reason of this assignment.

Galina was fond of Ranora but was upset with her after the reprimand that Ranora issued her the previous day about walking out of line. Galina thought that if Ranora was dead, it would be easier to gather Taul's interest in her. She listened to him as he spoke.

Taul: "It would be necessary for us to carry out the mission as planned. We must make sure that the Kai does not live to see another day."

Terrh: "All the weapons are accounted for. We are ready to proceed with the task."

Taul nodded and placed his hand on the sand made map of where they were to enter the Kai's home.

Taul: "We should enter here. It is further away from the main entrance and would be easier to exit as well."

Terrh: "What about guards? Or guard animals?"

Taul: "I haven't noticed any, however that's not to say that there are none. We should be careful and stick together as Mirekvaell has ordered."

Galina watched Taul's mouth as he spoke. Taul noticed her stare but ignored her and continued his speech.

Taul: "If they, our superior officers have been caught there may be a great deal of guards surrounding the area. We should be on constant look-out at all times."

Galina didn't want to speak against Taul but wanted to get his attention.

Galina: "I understand what danger is at hand, I just don't see moving ahead without our superiors. We don't know that they've been captured or dead. I have faith in Glin Ranora and I say we should wait."

Jatrak: "I agree. I have faith in her as well as khre'Arrain Mirekvaell. I doubt they would want us to move ahead without their permission."

Jatrak was thinking about how much more than just faith he had in Mirekvaell. He thought of his night with her and how much it meant to him. She was the most beautiful Romulan woman he had ever seen; even though he knew she was probably not interested in him. He didn't care. He would always remember his time with her.

Terrh: "If they are dead they cannot give permission."

Galina: "We don't know if they're dead."

Terrh: "Do you suggest we wait until the end of eternity to find out?"

Jatrak: "That's a while long don't you think?"

Terrh: "Well how long were you planning on waiting?"

Taul: "Silence."

They all heard something moving from the trees of the forest and remained quiet. They all pulled their disruptors but stayed close to the ground. A small animal came from the bushes near the trees. The officers stood alert for a few more seconds. Jatrak began to put his weapon back at his side. Taul motioned him not to. Jatrak was confused. He didn't see the sense in holding his disruptor on something that was no longer there.

Jatrak whispered to Taul as he focused on the area he was aiming at.

Jatrak: "Why am I aiming at this tree?"

Taul: "In case someone emerges."

Galina: "I agree with Jatrak. There is nothing there. We saw what made the noise."

Terrh: "Are you serious? That's an old Klingon trick."

Taul: "It's a common Bajoran trick as well."

Nothing happened and a few seconds later the officers replaced their weapons back at their sides. Taul was becoming upset that the Cardassian officers questioning his knowledge with them being fresh out of the academy. Who did they think they were? Why were they sent on such an important assignment? They weren't responsible enough. He knew they wanted to be, and they were intelligent enough, but they needed to use more common sense. It is wiser to listen to someone that knows the schemes of other races than it is to go off on your own intuition sometimes. He continued.

Taul: "Terrh, thlo mlianj'ie. Continue to watch the tree." (Terrh, I'm suspicious.)

Terrh nodded but listened as Taul spoke.

Terrh: "Daie."

Taul: "We should enter here and be able to access the main hall that leads to the Kai's private quarters. We know that she has bathers and should make to retire soon after."

Taul looked up and saw the Cardassian officers faces appeared bleak. He didn't know what they were thinking. The last thing he needed was for them to ruin everything. He tried to sound more understanding.

Taul: "Does everyone agree with me?

There was no response.

Taul: "Are there any questions? Remarks? Oppositions?"

The Cardassian officers looked at each other and spoke in Cardassian.

Taul and Terrh looked at each other. They both understood the Cardassians but said nothing.

Galina: "Chi'resh?" (What-do you think-?)

Jatrak: "Afs'zanda ye." (I don't know.)

Galina wasn't sure what to do and neither was Jatrak. Taul could see that but was becoming impatient. He frowned at them and exhaled.

Taul: "Do the both of you comply?"

Jatrak: "Not that I'm complaining, but why are you making the decisions?"

Taul: "Because I have the most experience. However, I am not opposed to new ideas. Would you like to lead the mission?"

Jatrak: "I was merely asking a simple question that only required a simple answer. Please..."

Galina: "Jatrak, will you stop?"

Jatrak was slightly embarrassed at Galina's remark. He stopped smiling and responded.

Jatrak: "Yes. We'll cooperate."

Taul: "Good. Then you understand the plan?"

Galina: "Yes. We do."

Taul: "Then let's go."

Everyone gathered their belongings and started in Taul's direction on the Kai's homeground. Taul looked at Terrh. Terrh was still standing watch with his disruptor in hand, focused on the area that Taul told him to attend.

Taul: "Stev."

Terrh replaced his disruptor and followed the others. He noticed that Galina walked considerably close to Taul and that he let her by a few times. He knew that Taul was involved with Ranora but wondered if Galina was taking an interest in Taul because of the possibility that Ranora was dead.

Terrh didn't want to think about it. He was interested in Galina but if she was that kind of woman then he no longer sought her affection. He removed her from his mind and thought about the Kai and what obstacles they may face as they placed themselves back onto the land that was owned by one of Bajor's greatest public figures.

* Once to the Kai's Homeground...

Taul, Terrh, Jatrak, and Galina made their way onto the Kai's home the way Taul said would be best. He was right; there was less attention being paid to that area. They were quiet enough when they came upon a tunnel that lead three ways. They weren't sure where the tunnels lead and Taul wasn't given that information. He was thinking they would have to play a guessing game with the tunnels.

Taul: "I was not given sufficient information about these tunnels as it did not seem as though we would need to make use of them."

Jatrak remembered seeing a blueprint copy of the entire property of the Kai's home. Although, he saw it for no more than five minutes at the time, he still remembered where everything was.

Jatrak: "Where is it we need to go?"

Taul: "We need to get into her sleeping quarters."

Galina: "Where we saw her two nights before?"

Taul: "Affirmative."

Jatrak: "We should enter through the left tunnel."

Taul was aware of the Cardassians' intense mind-training programs designed so that they could strengthen their photographic memories. He trusted that, he just wasn't sure about Jatrak, who was fresh out of the academy.

Taul: "Are you certain?"

Jatrak: "As certain as you are that you're not Bajoran."

Taul excused that remark. If Jatrak had said Klingon he would've thought that an insult and would have to fight him. Taul looked away from him and gave orders for them to head for the tunnel on the left.

They all walked through the tunnel but noticed they had to be quieter than they were before. The tunnel enclosed the sound of their feet as they walked and amplified it throughout the tunnel itself as well as other rooms they passed. They knew they passed rooms when ever they saw vents. Terrh whispered as he pointed out the air vents.

Terrh: "We must be in an airduct, because of the vents."

Taul: "I think you're right."

Terrh: "Are we nearing the Kai's sleeping quarters Jatrak?"

Jatrak barely heard them because they spoke so low, but he did hear Terrh ask that question.

Jatrak: "What do you mean are we near the Kai's sleeping quarters? If you mean closer than we were 20 minutes ago, then yes."

Terrh: "Do you have an idea how much further it is?"

Jatrak: "Do you want that in feet, yards, meters? Or were you talking in the sense of time? I believe in Romulan that's siuren-a, tarim-a, or tel-a?"

Terrh turned around and faced him. His voice was low but began to carry throughout the tunnel.

Terrh: "What is wrong with you? Are you not serious about this mission?"

Jatrak: "You think that Cardassians are not serious? Do you think that..."

Terrh: "Not Cardassians. You! I'm asking you as a person, not as a Cardassian. Like you said before a simple answer for a simple question would be just fine."

Jatrak smiled.

Jatrak: "What was the question?"

Taul and Galina stopped walking and turned around to see them arguing.

Taul: "Khoi. Both of you stop. Don't worry about how long it takes, just go."

Jatrak: "Fine. Let's go. Commander."

Taul was starting to dislike Jatrak. He wasn't sure why he was so negative suddenly. He tried to ignore it, but Jatrak kept pushing.

Jatrak: "I'm glad we are at least in your presence Commander."

Taul: "Why do you call me Commander?"

Jatrak: "I'm sorry, I was unaware of your rank. Commander just seemed so appropriate. Tell me, what is your rank?"

Taul: "I am unaware of your intelligence. When or if it returns I might tell you."

Galina: "This is getting boring. Jatrak! Afs'o t'keshprim."

Terrh: "I hear someone."

Everyone stopped talking and listened. The Romulans' hearing was better than the Cardassians' and they heard a pounding and yelling sound.

Taul: "It sounds like an angry prisoner. 'Le kll'inghann."

Taul pulled his disruptor as did Terrh. Jatrak looked at Galina and they both pulled their weapons as well.

Terrh: "I say we find out what it is."

Jatrak: "You know this is taking us off schedule from our journey to the Kai's room. That'll cost us time."

The group ignored him and Taul was as interested as Terrh.

Taul: "Follow me."

They followed close to Taul, Galina in particular. She tried to speak to Taul but the sound they were following became louder and he paid her little attention.

Galina: "Taul, I love it when you speak Rihannsu."

Taul: "That's good."

Galina: "I could teach you Cardassian, if you want."

Taul: "You cannot teach someone what they already know."

Galina was surprised that he already Cardassian. But then she remembered that he had been involved with Ranora. She quickly erased that thought.

Galina: "Well then you can teach me Romulan."

Taul: "They have schools and training programs for that."

Galina: "Don't you teach at a school on Romulus?"

Taul: "I'm an assistant, and they don't teach language they teach intelligence."

Galina: "Maybe I could enroll."

Taul: "You're not listening. I said they teach intelligence. The outcome of your acceptance would be uncertain."

Galina was slightly put off by his last remark but tried not to take offense.

Jatrak: "It's getting louder."

Taul: "Khoi. Stop. It's just around that corner."

They could see the shadow of the being as he attempted to jump from the ground. He cursed and swore. They got closer together. Then they saw it. A Klingon. The Klingon saw them as well, and stopped yelling. He stood there watching the group to see what they would do.

Terrh stood right next to Taul and aimed his disruptor to shoot the Klingon. Taul wasn't sure why he didn't want the Klingon dead, yet. He stopped Terrh from firing.

Terrh: "Fvah?"

Taul: "Something's wrong with him."

Terrh: "Urstev." (Dismissed. -So what.)

Taul: "His foot is stuck in that track on the ground."

Galina: "Not much better than where'd I like to stick it!"

Jatrak: "So now were killing Kai's and saving Klingons. What next?"

Terrh: "V'rhaen-ao'au." ("I kill you.")

Jatrak didn't understand what Terrh said, but Taul did and became upset and yelled.

Taul: "Vaed'rae Terrh! Khoi fhaihuhhru-asi Card'hassin. Ssuej-d'ifv?" ("Listen Terrh! Stop fighting the Cardassian. Do you understand?")

Terrh: "Daie. Ssuej-ha."

Taul: "Good. In the meantime this Klingon has no weapons, no way of attacking us, and there's no way that he can be the only one here. I suggest we question him. Any objections?"

No one said anything. They were intimidated by Taul's loud voice. The group would do as he asked with no questions.

*9 & 10* In the Underground Tunnel...

Taul proceeded a few steps ahead of the group. He saw the Klingon try to look bold as he walked closer to him with his disruptor aimed at him. The others looked at each other and wondered what Taul was going to do. Terrh noticed Taul's face become angry even though he tried to hide it. It was hard for many Romulans to hide their hate for Klingons when approached by one.

Taul stopped about 70 feet from the Klingon. He noticed that just behind the Klingon was a disruptor. The Klingon could probably reach it if he stretched, but Taul wouldn't give him enough time to try, and the Klingon knew that as well. Taul removed his frown and spoke.

Taul: "Who are you?"

Klingon: "I am Qagor, son of Gantok from the house of Gantok."

Taul: "I do not care about your house. There is no one here to be impressed with your absurd system of honor."

Qagor looked at Taul with a more serious look other than the proud look he held a few seconds ago.

Taul: "Why are you here?"

Qagor: "I do not have to answer to you. Enos p'tach di'ebe..."

Taul shoot his disruptor on low at the Klingons foot that was stuck in the track on the ground. It was already bleeding, and now it sustained an open burn wound as well. Qagor yelled out as the pain became more intense and he knelled down to hold his ankle.

Terrh, Jatrak, and Galina smiled. Taul himself tried to hide a smile and continued with his questioning.

Taul: "Should we try that again? Why are you here?"

Qagor: "I am not alone. We are here to kill the Kai."

Taul: "You and who else? Define we."

Qagor: "My fleet of Klingon troopers. They will be looking for me soon."

Taul: "You have a fleet?"

Taul sounded surprised at the clumsy Klingons ability to maintain a fleet of officers. Then he remembered that he was speaking to a Klingon. It was likely that he was probably lying anyway.

Taul: "Why do they not look for you now? And what resentment could you Klingons possibly have against the Kai? After all, she did sell secrets to your empire."

Taul spoke as though he would rather retch his words to the Klingon. He hated speaking to him as though he were capable of engaging in an intelligent conversation. Taul had to bite his tongue when he looked at the Klingon, or when the Klingon spoke; because that's when he really wanted to kill him. He let Qagor answer.

Qagor: "She did not hold up her end of the bargain. There were other deeds that she did not... follow through on."

Taul wondered if he meant the deeds that the Kai performed a few nights ago with one of her consorts. He didn't care.

Taul: "Have you or one of your people been successful?"

Qagor thought about the women he saw a few hours ago. One Romulan and one Cardassian. He knew they were together. He figured that the Romulan officer didn't know where they were. He couldn't, or he wouldn't have asked him if he of one of his troop were successful. The Cardassian and the Romulan were already in the Kai's room which is where the Klingon was trying to go after he escaped. He would play a game with them now. It was his turn.

Qagor: "We did. We killed her, and a Romulan and a Cardassian officer that were in our way. Both female."

Taul and the others were upset. Jatrak and Terrh frowned as they aimed their disruptors on Qagor. Galina yelled out.

Galina: "Antim rag'vakshu moy Kardash'anak ordacro... I'll kill you!" (You are enemies of the Cardassian union...)

Taul stopped Galina from firing. He moved her hand to the air before she could fire on the Klingon. She didn't fight Taul.

Terrh: "Why do you stop us from killing him? He is not worthy to breathe the same air as we."

Taul let Galina go and she was angry; both at the Klingon and at Taul for not letting her kill him. She was almost distracted by Taul's hold on her.

The Klingon let out a laugh.

Taul: "Terrh, do not question me again."

Terrh: "Daie."

Taul: "Can you not see that he is lying? He will say anything to anger us. But he will not tell the truth."

They looked at Taul as though they were waiting an explanation.

Taul: "Do you actually think that Mirekvaell would let herself be killed by a Klingon? Or Ranora for that matter?"

Jatrak: "But he described them, both Mirekvaell and Ranora, and he knew they were female. He must know something."

Taul: "He does know something, but he will not share that with us."

The Klingon's hysteria became louder. Taul was distracted in his speech so he shot the Klingon in his other ankle on a higher setting this time. The Klingon let out a cry and sat on the ground.

Qagor was about 15 feet from his disruptor; he probably couldn't reach it, but Taul didn't want to take a chance. He shot the Klingon's disruptor on high setting, and the disruptor vanished. Taul smiled at the Klingon.

Taul: "Well, at least you're not laughing."

Qagor: "Ha! Laughing. I will die laughing."

Taul: "I can make a liar out of you with that statement."

The Klingon stopped laughing as he noticed the pain in his ankle began to spread to his leg and his knees began to ache.

Qagor: "What have you done to me, p'tach?"

The group looked at the Klingon suffer.

Qagor: "My leg... is stiffening and my..."

The Klingon let out more screams as the pain increased. Everyone but Taul smiled.

Taul: "Tell me kll'inghann fvai, is this an honorable way to die?"

Qagor could barely speak, tears fell unwillingly from his eyes, though he wasn't crying.

Qagor: "Yes. I..have not had the chance to... fight my opponent.. fairly."

Taul: "Then tell me this also, has the Romulan and the Cardassian officers you claimed to have killed had the fair chance you speak of?"

Qagor: "What does it matter? They do not... honor Klingon customs."

Taul: "Just answer the question."

Qagor thought for a few seconds. He was trying to think of what would make the Romulan officer most upset.

Qagor: "Yes, they did. They stood down and released their weapons to us. They knew they were outnumbered and had no chance... for survival."

The group knew with that statement that the Klingon was lying.

Taul: "You no longer serve us any purpose. We will dispose of you now."

Taul turned to his group and nodded.

Qagor: "Wait! Wait. I have some... information that might be of interest to you."

Taul didn't turn to look at the Klingon as he spoke.

Taul: "There is nothing you can say that I need listen to. You will die within an hour if my crew does not choose to dispatch you now."

Qagor: "But I do know something...about your other officers."

Taul: "You disavow to know the whereabouts of our female officers?"

Qagor: "Yes."

Taul waited a moment, he knew they would kill the Klingon, but gave him one last shot to redeem himself of his previous lies.

Taul: "Speak."

Qagor: "I know their dead!"

The Klingon let out a roaring laugh stifled slightly by the pain in his legs.

Taul: "Khoi!"

Taul turned around to get the officers to hold their fire. They did.

Taul walked over to the Klingon, and kicked him in the face. The Klingon stopped laughing. Taul walked away from him. The Klingon held his face and spoke for the last time.

Qagor: "What... was your rational reason for doing that?"

Taul: "So that you wouldn't die laughing."

The Klingon was stunned by that remark. Everyone looked at Taul and waited.

Taul: "Hna'h, fire!"

The group didn't hesitate at Taul's order. They let their disruptors give them a release of the tense feelings that have been going around, and felt liberated.

Taul waited for them to finish enjoying themselves at the Klingon's death. He thought about Mirekvaell and Ranora and he knew they were still alive.

He thought mainly about Ranora, and how he couldn't wait to hold her again. He thought of their short time together a few nights ago. He wanted to hold her again and kiss her. He could almost feel her hands on his forehead, but became distracted by the group as they were invigorated and were ready to take on their chore with the Kai's matters.

Taul: "Choch! Let's go." (Quickly!)

The group followed Taul further into the left tunnel that would lead to the Kai's sleeping quarters.

* In the Kai's Home...

Ranora thought about the last time she was with Taul. They were near the coves and it was just getting dark. Jatrak came out to see if she was alright and Taul made up a reason for why they were together. She liked his ability to lie on the spot. It made him more intriguing, more sexy.

As soon as Jatrak went back to one of the coves Taul held Ranora again. She grabbed onto him and held him as they kissed. They decided that it probably would be best if they were out of sight and walked over to where it was more secluded. Taul slipped his hands under Ranora's blouse, and reached around to her back as he pulled her close. Ranora kissed him and pulled at his pants after removing his metal fatigue and his tunic.

Taul was very muscular, although you wouldn't know it from the uniform he wore. Ranora knew it, she had been with Taul before and remembered everything about his body. She missed him, his touch, his kisses. She still loved him, and now it was more intense.

Taul removed her blouse and pulled out the hairpiece that kept Ranora's hair in place. Her hair fell to her shoulders and Taul placed his hand behind her neck as he kissed her. Ranora pulled Taul close to her and lay on him as they neared the ground. Ranora sat on Taul and kissed him rough. Taul liked Ranora's way of being harsh but sometimes wanted her to be more gentle, like he was. She would be, if he insisted with his touch, but always resorted back. Taul didn't mind much, as long as he was with her.

Taul turned Ranora over so that he could control her better. They wouldn't be on this assignment for long he thought, so he would have to make it worthwhile for both of them. He lie on top of Ranora, he knew that she liked that, she always wanted him to be in command, to be the leader. Her nails played on Taul's back as he pressed her against the ground.

Taul kissed Ranora and held her breasts in his hand as he placed himself in her. Ranora said Taul's name a few times as he pleased her. He was quiet but moaned lightly as he accelerated with her. He hoped that she wouldn't be as loud as usual, being that they still weren't far from camp.

Taul moved steadily with Ranora leading her and making her tame to his pattern, she followed. She didn't mind that Taul wasn't as rough as she was used to, but always enjoyed him. She began to moan louder as Taul was beginning to finish. He kissed her, but she continued to moan loud. Ranora knew that Taul was trying to keep her somewhat quiet but she couldn't control herself with him. She was too caught up in being in love with him and being with him again that nothing could keep her too quiet; especially while he was pleasing her.

Taul sucked on her neck as he finished, and Ranora pressed her nails hard into his back and shoulders. She could barely hold onto him in his movement. She played in Taul's dark hair and kissed him. Taul lay his head on her breast and rested. Ranora played in his hair and smoothed over his raised forehead, as she spoke to him in Kardassi. Taul fell asleep and he held onto her waist.

Guards ran past the room where Mirekvaell and Ranora were. They were awaken by the loud voices and thunderous stomping the guards produced with their feet as word came about that the Klingon prisoner had escaped. Both wondered about their teams of officers. Ranora more than Mirekvaell.

Ranora: " I wonder where the group is."

Mirekvaell: "I'm sure their alright. Taul is with them. I'm sure you, more than most, would know that Taul is a great officer, and would not let any malevolence befall them."

Ranora: "You're right, I do know Taul."

Mirekvaell smiled.

Ranora: "And yes, he is a good officer, among other things."

Mirekvaell: "Care to elaborate?"

Ranora smiled.

Ranora: "Only if you tell me about your dream last night."

Mirekvaell almost laughed out loud, not that anyone would've heard with the commotion over the Klingon. She smiled and shook her head.

Mirekvaell: "That's strictly confidential."

They both smiled and waited for the noise to die down, which seemed almost endless. The Kai entered the room in a frantic rage. She started yelling and cursing in Bajoran. She called her guards to her and sent for two more females to aid her. She then slammed her door and threw herself on the bed.

Mirekvaell and Ranora looked at each other. They thought this would be a good time, but knew that someone wound enter. The only way they could do it would be to kill her and escape through the vents. They contemplated for a few minutes and carefully emerged from the chest that gave them shelter.

They were hoping this was finally their moment, they would do what they came for.

*11, 12, & 13* Later In the Kai's Room...

Mirekvaell and Ranora made their way over to the Kai and found her breathing deeply, quietly, as though she were listening. They stopped moving and Kai Lonain turned around. She saw them but didn't make a sound. She watched both of them but concentrated on Ranora. The Kai knew that she was going to die; when Mirekvaell pulled her kaleh, that became obvious to her. She looked at Mirekvaell and spoke.

Lonain: "What crime or crimes have you chosen to claim me guilty of?"

Mirekvaell: "Does it matter? All you need to know it that you'll no longer commit crimes against the Romulan Empire. Today you die."

Lonain: "I think I should at least be given my sentence. I would expect you to give me one, as I'm sure the Cardassian won't."

Ranora: "You didn't ask me."

Lonain: "Well, I know that a Cardassian wouldn't come to bring me gifts so I decided to read into the obvious. You're all senseless killers. Have your people not murdered enough Bajorans? Now you come after the powerful ones. Ones with a voice strong enough to put an end to Cardassia and its inhabitants."

Ranora: "Spare me your pity speech. I don't buy it. And your talk of powerful people; I believe it was you that sought the death of a Legate. You dare to speak to me about murder?"

Lonain: "It's a good thing we finally got you people out of Bajor."

Ranora smiled.

Ranora: "D'ja Bajora karass." (Bajor is -or will be- ours.)

The Kai rolled her eyes from Ranora's glare and turned back to Mirekvaell who held her kaleh near the Kai's throat.

Lonain: "And what grudge could you as a Romulan possibly hold against me? I like Romulans; some of them. Usually ones that aren't holding sharp bjects at my throat."

Mirekvaell: "Don't worry I won't hold it here for long. I shall replace it at my side after it has served it's purpose."

The Kai was trying to stall for time, hoping that her female aids would enter the room and cry out for help to her guards.

Lonain: "What has this Cardassian offered you to kill me? I can go above whatever price they claim to service you in this deed."

Mirekvaell: "The Cardassians have not offered me anything. I am here on behalf of ch'Rihan and ch'Havran at the request of Praetor Tafv. You know what you've done to the Romulans; the secrets you sold of our whereabouts to the Klingons and the Federation."

Mirekvaell moved in closer with the kaleh as she spoke, the blade lay on Kai Lonain's throat. She swallowed and became nervous although, she tried to seem unafraid as her fate neared.

Lonain: "That's not true. The Klingons lie."

Mirekvaell: "You’re right, Klingons do lie, but it's too bad your thumb print was on the padd that validated your agreements with the Klingons. You sold several Romulan secrets and many of us died. And for that, you too will die."

Lonain: "I didn't mean for that..."

Kai Lonain looked up briefly at Ranora's face to see her smile.

Lonain: "Cardassians! The Cardassians sold those secrets."

Mirekvaell looked at Ranora. Ranora shook her head.

Ranora: "What could we possibly want from you, or of any Bajoran? Besides, why buy when we can take?"

Lonain: "I had a deal with that Legate; Legate Boklah. We had an agreement that I would continue to please him after the occupation as well as supply him with other commodities that he was interested in at the time. He gave me Romulan secrets as well as Ferengi, Vulcan and Federation in trade of my services. I don't know how he acquired them, but I offered him plenty worthwhile quality goods. He was the one that backed out on his deal and I had the Klingons kill him. Of course they too wanted something, so I gave them the Romulan whereabouts."

The room was silent as pieces of the Kai's words began to make some sense. Neither Ranora nor Mirekvaell were aware of the whole story. They weren't sent to interrogate her, just to assassinate her. Mirekvaell thought about other parts of the story she was informed of before accepting this mission. She had to think of something to counter the Kai's words. The Kai was well known for her words, and her misuse of them, as she was a great liar.

Mirekvaell: "What about the Federation? You sold us out to them as well. Why?"

Lonain: "No, that wasn't me. The Klingons made some pact with the Federation and secrets of Klingon became secrets of the Federation. I never spoke trade to the Federation."

Ranora: "You're lying. The Federation is involved with Bajor as well as your constant visits to Federation territory. You've traveled to earth on bid of Federation business several times during the past seven months. We have been watching you for a long time Kai."

Mirekvaell: "She's right."

Mirekvaell made sure not to say Ranora's name, though it didn't really matter since the Kai was about to die anyway."

Mirekvaell: "Do you have anything to say about your visits to the Federation space?"

The Kai stuttered in her speech.

Lonain: "I was visiting family. They were in trouble and needed guidance from the Orb..."

Ranora: "You have no family in the Federation, Kai."

Mirekvaell pressed the kaleh harder against the Kai's throat, it scraped at the skin.

Lonain: "Honestly, the Klingons are responsible for sharing the secrets with the Federation."

Ranora: "That word sounds funny coming from you. Honestly."

Mirekvaell: "Your time is short Kai. We are not here to find out about your life, only to end it."

Ranora walked around the bed the Kai sat on and spoke with a smile.

Ranora: "Where are those prophets when you need them?"

They heard footsteps of multiple visitors coming towards the room. Ranora moved quickly and quietly to the door. The steps came closer and female voices were made out more clearly.

Mirekvaell moved the Kai from the bed and hid her from view of those that would enter. Ranora stood behind the door with her disruptor drawn, she waited for the door to open. They knew they would have to kill the females that were about to enter. It wouldn't be much of a problem, since they would have to do what was necessary to complete their assignment; if killing those that stood in the way, there was no hesitation in removing the obstacles.

The door opened slowly and two women entered the room. They spoke Bajoran.

1st Girl: "Peldor joi, Kai Lonain."

The young women looked at each other and the door closed gently behind them. Ranora and Mirekvaell were fortunate that the guards hadn’t chosen to aid the women upon their entrance.

2nd Girl: "Kai? Romi'dol na tai?" (Are you okay?)

There was no response. Instead the Kai made a sound from the back of her throat, and the 1st Girl noticed Ranora but made no sound. She squeezed the 2nd Girl's arm and she noticed Ranora as well. She looked as though she would scream, so Ranora shot her with her disruptor. Within seconds the girl vanished. The 1st Girl still made no sound. She was still and quiet. She watched Mirekvaell emerge the dark corner with the kaleh still pressed tightly on Kai Lonain's throat.

* Later in the Tunnel...

Taul walked with his group and lead them through the winding tunnel that came closer to the Kai's room. They group was getting tired and restless and began to slow down. Galina started to complain.

Galina: "How much further do we have? Can't some of keep a look out here in the tunnel?"

Taul: "Look out for what? What or who are you expecting in the tunnel?"

Galina: "No one, but.."

Taul: "There is a possibility that someone may follow us or be in the tunnels as well, but they would need to know of us to be in search for us."

Galina: "What about the Klingon? He was here and he didn't know about us."

Taul: "Nor were we aware of him. The Klingon was not looking for us, as we were not looking for him. Your argument is irrelevant and pointless. "

Galina: "No it isn't. You just don't want to admit that I had a good idea."

Taul: "You just want to be lazy and refuse to admit that your argument is meaningless."

Jatrak: "Why are you insulting her? She does have a point."

Taul: "Fine. If the two of you wish to do nothing on this assignment then do nothing. I will however, make a full report on your inconsistency to comply with the ch'Malor (Romulan/ Cardassian treaty) agreement and the situation at hand. As I recall you are to obey the person next in rank that succeeds yours. That is me."

Jatrak: "We didn't say that we wouldn't comply, just that it might be a good idea to have a look out in the tunnels."

Taul stopped walking and Terrh who was walking at his side also stopped. Taul turned around to face the Cardassian officers.

Taul: "We will go where I intend. I do not wish to prolong this most irrelevant conversation. I will have to entertain your zealousness another time."

The Cardassians officers glanced at each other and continued behind Taul who carried a faster pace than before.

* In the Center of the Kai's Room...

Mirekvaell, Ranora, Kai Lonain, and the young woman that entered moments ago stood in the center of the room. The woman was too afraid to say anything. It was obvious that she was young in age. She couldn't be more than 17 or 18 years old. Ranora noticed the girl close her eyes as she saw blood begin to clot under the Kai's skin where Mirekvaell held the kaleh.

Ranora smiled.

Ranora: "What should we do with this one?"

Mirekvaell: "We'll have to kill her as well."

1st Girl: "Why? I haven't done anything. Please. I won't say anything."

Mirekvaell: "We'll have to make certain of that."

1st Girl: "Please. Take me with you and release me as soon as you leave the Bajoran space. I won't say anything."

Lonain: "How dare you betray me in my time of need. What kind of house servant are you?"

1st Girl: "One who wants to live to see my family again. To see my child and husband."

Lonain: "Do you think they'd not question you once word of your presence is known? My main guards know that you as well as the other girl walked in my room last, and if they locate you and not the other girl, they'll think that you were in on my murder. Are you ready for that?"

1st Girl: "I would tell them the truth."

Lonain: "There'd be no one to accord with your words."

1st Girl: "The Prophets would protect me."

Lonain: "The Prophets. Look at me! You dare speak of Prophets in my presence."

1st Girl: "This must be meant to be. I can only hope that I will reunite with my family."

Mirekvaell pressed the on the kaleh and the Kai's throat bleed. Blood began to trickle down her neck and onto her essentric tan and purple colored gown.

Ranora looked at the Bajoran and became angered at herself for letting compassion stiffle her thought for a moment.

Ranora: "I say we kill her."

Mirekvaell didn't care either way if the girl died or not, just as long as she didn't get in the way of her duty.

Mirekvaell: "I don't care. She could die before or after the Kai."

Mirekvaell looked at the girl.

Mirekvaell: "Would you like to see your precious Kai die or would you rather she watch? Fvaht! What am I saying? Kill them both. I'll take the Kai."

1st Girl: "Wait! Please. I just want to see my child again. Please don't kill me."

Ranora looked closer in the woman's face. She could see the girl was nervous.

Ranora: "You're lying."

1st Girl: "How can you say that?"

Ranora: "You're nervous."

1st Girl: "You're holding a disruptor on me."

Ranora: "Yes, I am."

Mirekvaell: "Stop arguing and kill her."

Ranora: "You're taking your time with the Kai. Are you trying to make the moment last?"

Mirekvaell: "I hope your photographic memory is on because you may want to replay this for those special occasions."

Mirekvaell slide her kaleh slowly across the Kai's throat and blood began to pour. Ranora smiled and aimed her disruptor on the Girl and fired. Nothing happened. The girl still appeared before them. She looked surprised as the Kai fell to the ground at Mirekvaell's release of her hair.

Ranora and Mirekvaell were focused on the girl who hadn't been harmed in any way by the disruptor fire. The girl hadn't even noticed that Ranora had fired.

Mirekvaell: "Let's go! She's a hologram."

Ranora: "We should've known. She must be being programmed from some control room here on these grounds."

Mirekvaell: "We have to go now."

Mirekvaell looked around while Ranora was transfixed on the hologram and tried to shoot it again.

Mirekvaell: "Through the vents."

Ranora thought before she knelled down to help Mirekvaell open the vent cover.

Ranora: "The Klingon?"

Mirekvaell: "I'll kill the Klingon! We have to go now."

Ranora helped Mirekvaell open the vent and jumped in first. She helped Mirekvaell in the tunnel and placed they replaced the vent cover overhead carefully.

They ran towards the right which Ranora believed was the way out.

Ranora: "Nice work back there. I like the look on the Kai's face as you killed her."

Mirekvaell: "I think she was surprised. I don't think she thought that we were going to kill her."

Ranora: "Well, I only wish I could kill that hologram."

Mirekvaell: "If we had more time we could found out where she really was and killed her as well."

Ranora: "I would've shot the Kai with my disruptor if it wouldn't have been better for the guards to find her motionless body on the floor with no hopes of revival."

Mirekvaell: "I agree."

Mirekvaell slowed and pulled Ranora's arm to slow her down as well.

Mirekvaell: "I think I hear something."

Ranora: "What?"

Mirekvaell: "I don't know. Yet."

They walked carefully and even Ranora started hearing footsteps coming close to where they were.

Ranora: "The Klingon?"

Mirekvaell: "I don't know. Let's find out."

Ranora nodded to Mirekvaell and pulled her weapon.

Ranora: "Let's go."

They walked slowly and were prepared for anything.

*14 * In the Praetor's Palace...

Praetor Tafv sat in his ready chair being served several fruitful dishes. He paid no attention to the woman serving him. Sindari. She was to be his bond mate, though they were never intimate she treated him as though they were already bonded. She was promised to him as a gift from a wealthy family that resided nearby. She was unaware of the Praetor's recent visit with Mirekvaell, although, she wasn't often included in his private affairs.

Sindari kneeled down at Tafv's feet and tried to get his attention by rubbing them. She spoke to him but he barely listened.

Sindari: "Tafv. I received a message from my sister Eviess today."

There was nearly a minute of silence as Tafv stared at the wall in front of him.

Sindari: "She was hoping to visit soon, that is if you don't mind the company and aren't too busy to greet her when she arrives."

Tafv continued to stare off.

Sindari: "I know what will make you feel better."

She rubbed his legs and smiled as he began to close his eyes as though he were falling asleep.

Tafv wasn't interested as he could only think about Mirekvaell and when he would see her again. He was beginning to think it was a mistake to send her on the previous assignment. He wanted to hold her again, to touch her, to rub his body against hers and hear her protest her need for him. He had hoped that he was gentle enough in his touch that he could win her affection for himself. He hated to think that another man could please her; or was pleasing her.

Tafv thought that if he could convince Mirekvaell to bond with him, that he wouldn't send her on anymore assignments. Although, keeping her from active duty to service ch'Rihan was nearly impossible. He would again have to be very convincing. He knew that she loved him, he just wanted to know how much she loved him.

Tafv thought that he must have fell in love with Mirekvaell when she first killed for him. When one of his supposedly trusted guards had tried to murder him, Mirekvaell was faster than the guard and stopped him with her kaleh. He loved the way she quickly defended him and how modest she was in his defense. He wanted her more than he thought. He started to think about their night together and how he hated it to end.

Then he thought about their morning together. He was surprised to find Mirekvaell closer to him than she was when he fell asleep. He wasn't even sure that she'd be there in the morning and he was glad that she was. He felt that it was important to show her how much he appreciated her being there when he awoke.

Tafv closed his eyes and thought about their morning together. He woke up with Mirekvaell in his arms and her head was just beneath his chin. He figured that he awoke due to her tight grasp around his waist. He smiled and kissed her forehead. He rubbed his chin gently against her raised forehead and felt the her hold become tighter. Mirekvaell kissed him and began to pull away. Tafv didn't want to let her go but her pull became stronger and he released her.

He thought she was being cruel with her minimal affection and sudden departure. He watched her walk across the room and she stopped mid-way in the room. Tafv watched her body dressed only in flesh begin to make her way towards one of the windows covered with red and purple flowing draperies. Her hair became a lighter color in the light, almost a deep burgundy with maroon highlights. He liked it and it reminded him of how intrigued he was with her. She spoke without turning around.

Mirekvaell: "T'lim saeihr thlojur." (It's the sun hour.)

Tafv made his way quietly to her as he was still in awe at her body. Mirekvaell could feel him press himself against her slowly and softly. Tafv himself was all flesh as well. She smiled. He touched her hair with his left hand and her waist with his right hand as Mirekvaell closed her eyes. He placed his face on her neck and breathed deeply and rubbed his nose and lips against her skin. He kissed her gently on her neck and shoulder. Mirekvaell grabbed his right hand as he reached across her stomach to hold her tightly.

He turned her around and pressed her against the wall near the window. Mirekvaell pulled him close and kissed him passionately, and Tafv rubbed her breasts before pressing himself completely against her. Mirekvaell placed her hands on Tafv's face and moved them towards his hair. Tafv loved her hands in his hair. He was very sensitive and it made him more excited.

Mirekvaell could feel the sculpture of his back move as he pressed against her. He reached his hands down her waist, to her hips, and to her legs as he held himself close to her. Mirekvaell knew what he wanted and she wanted him; she wanted to please him, as he pleased her the night before. She pulled him close to her and he entered her gently. Mirekvaell breathed in deep and closed her eyes as she pulled at his hair. Tafv moved slow and rubbed himself against her. Mirekvaell pulled at him with her nails and sucked on his ear. He began to moan as he began to accelerate.

Mirekvaell wanted Tafv badly and would do anything for him at this point. He was gentle and patient with her, she knew that he'd do anything for her. She knew that Tafv was pleased with her because he told her he loved her. She loved him too, she just didn't know it before. Tafv's actions made her more aware of how much she loved him.

Mirekvaell began to moan with Tafv as he pushed her against the wall and moved faster to her pleasure. He was nearing his peak and would try to please her first before himself. He pulled tighter at her waist and pressed himself to her as she played in his hair and sucked on his neck. Tafv bite her neck harder than he intended as he could feel Mirekvaell become excited and hold himself against her. He left slight teeth marks but couldn't help himself as he felt himself please her. Mirekvaell placed her legs around Tafv as he continued. He knew that he pleased her as Mirekvaell let out screams of joy and pinched her nails deep into his back. She could feel Tafv coming to an end as he pressed himself against her harder before releasing her. He kissed her and let her compose her thoughts, and he held her close as she held him.

Tafv moaned out as he was becoming excited by his memories of Mirekvaell and Sindari became distracted. She looked at him and wondered if he was felling ill. Tafv spoke through his moans.

Tafv: "Mirekvaell.. au'e Mirekvaell."

Sindari had heard the name Mirekvaell before and wasn't sure why Tafv was calling her name. She wondered what kind of dream he was having. He was having a dream, wasn't he? Then she understood why he called her name.

Tafv: "Hnalo hru'fir... Mirekvaell...jol-ao au."

Sindari became furious and spoke aloud.

Sindari: "Hwiiya thrad ru thlom!" (You've lied to me!)

Tafv became upset and shaken from his thoughts. How dare Sindari question him in his home. Who did she think she was? What lie was she talking about? Tafv didn't care. He was the Praetor and he could do as he pleased in his home.

Tafv: "Ta'krenn! Urru thlom. Stev!" (Look here! Leave me. Now!)

Tafv's voice was low but his tone was harsh and he meant was he said, there was no mistake about that. Sindari didn't know what to do, but she wasn't going to sit by and let some woman take her man from under her. She stood up and waited as though Tafv didn't mean for her to leave.

Tafv: "Thlei! Urstev!" (I've spoken! Leave me!)

His voice became louder and he looked at her as though she should be gone. Sindari spoke.

Sindari: "Hwiiya vagram ru thlom? Tafv!" (Have you been unfaithful to me? Tafv!)

Sindari spoke loud but no where near as loud as he had. She knew that she was on thin ground to question him. But she had to know if he was with someone else. She had been living under his authority for nearly two years and felt she had the right to know.

Tafv stood up and shouted.

Tafv: "Urstev!"

Sindari was frightened at the loudness his voice had taken. He never raised his voice to anyone, even when he was upset. Guards scurried about outside the doorway and looked in. Tafv didn't say anything to them; he waved his hand and they left.

Sindari was surprised that Tafv would yell at her. She quickly hid her tears and left his presence.

Tafv felt bad after his tantrum against Sindari. It was not her fault that she didn't please him, nor was it her fault that he would never find peace in her. If he couldn't have Mirekvaell he would have to settle for Sindari. He didn't want to think about that.

He wanted to apologize to Sindari, but what difference would it make? She would come to him again within a few hours; after she thought he had calmed down. She liked serving him and he knew that. She was quite drastic with her actions at times and often jealous if another house servant so much as smiled in his direction. She would have the woman tend to the animals or the cleaning so that she would be out of Tafv's constant sight. Being that Sindari was the highest female in control of the Praetor's home, she still was not given final word. She still was not his bond mate and had to respect Tafv's wishes.

Tafv walked to Sindari's room and watched her cry as she sat on the floor. Another house servant tried to calm her by petting her hair as Sindari collapsed in the woman's lap. The house servant saw Tafv in the doorway and began to removed herself from Sindari. Tafv waved his hand for her not to move, she didn't. He watched until Sindari looked over at him. She stopped crying and lifted her head. Tafv walked away and heard Sindari continue to speak Romulan through her tears to the house servant.

Tafv knew that she was expecting him to come to her and hold her, but he couldn't. He didn't love her enough to hold her the way she wanted. He was in love with Mirekvaell and could no longer feign his attraction for Sindari. He would have to hope for her forgiveness, as he felt he lead her along for so long. Tafv was an understanding man and knew that Sindari had hoped to bond with him, but he couldn't bond until he knew that it was right; being that it was a life-long decision, and he knew that he wanted to spend his life with Mirekvaell.

*15 & 16* In the Tunnels on the Kai's Homeground...

Mirekvaell and Ranora continued slowly towards the tunnel wall with their weapons drawn waiting to see what or who would emerge from the darkness. The tunnels weren't completely dark, though they were quite murky and nearly difficult to see more than 15 feet ahead of one's self.

They had no idea that anyone else would be in the tunnels besides the Klingon they encountered earlier that tried to make his way into the Kai's bedroom. They were surprised at what they saw.

Four Klingons seeped through the darkness. The Klingons looked at them and it was easy to see they held no weapons. In fact it looked as though they weren't armed with anything. Still, they were Klingons, and could not be trusted. The first one spoke.

1st Klingon: "Who are you?"

He seemed surprised and the rest of their faces complied with his tone of voice.

Mirekvaell: "Who are you?"

Mirekvaell's voice was demanding as she held her disruptor tightly aimed at him. Ranora held her disruptor on the others as Mirekvaell conversed with the Klingon speaker.

1st Klingon: "I'm Bak'chul son of Nam'ok, from the House of Nam'ok."

Then another Klingon, standing next to Bak'chul began to speak.

2nd Klingon: "I am Sof'taw son of Tanga, from the House of..."

Ranora: "We don't care about that. Why are you here?"

There was a long pause. And the Klingons started grunting between themselves. Mirekvaell became impatient.

Mirekvaell: "Well? Why are you here?"

Bak'chul: "Since you have us at a disadvantage, being that we have no weapons to guard ourselves with, I'll tell you."

Mirekvaell: "You'd tell us anyway."

The Klingon looked at her in a hateful way, Mirekvaell ignored it; because she had little tolerance for Klingons anyway and knew she was going to kill him, she figured she might as well get some information from him first.

A Klingon from the rear took hold of Bak'chul's uniform in order for him not to depart with any information as to why they were there. Bak'chul pulled away and spoke.

Bak'chul: "We are, at the moment looking for an officer. He was separated from us earlier and we have reason to believe he is here."

Ranora thought about the Klingon that they saw earlier in the Kai's room and thought it must be him, if they were telling the truth.

Mirekvaell watched the Klingon to see if was telling the truth. She concluded that he was and took a long pause before responding to his words.

Mirekvaell: "Your officer; what importance is he to you?"

The Klingons looked at each other and mumbled.

Ranora: "He is a high rank? I know Klingons would not go back in search for one of their lost crew unless there was a reason."

Mirekvaell: "She's right. Now answer me! Was he a high rank?"

Bak'chul: "We reserve the option not to answer you as it seems that if I were to say that he had a high rank you would fill yourself with that Romulan smugness you people always get after killing one of us."

Mirekvaell: "Then I reserve the option to shoot you. Because you did not answer my question to my satisfaction."

Mirekvaell aimed her disruptor closer to his chest without physically getting closer.

Bak'chul: "However..."

Mirekvaell: "However?"

Bak'chul: "I can offer the information that you seek."

Ranora: "Then speak and get it over with Klingon."

Bak'chul: "Cardassian, I have given my name, use it."

Ranora: "I don't believe that you are in any condition to give me orders Klingon, do you?"

The Klingon looked mad and rolled his eyes from Ranora's face.

Mirekvaell: "What information do you have to offer?"

Bak'chul looked among his small troop and back at Mirekvaell.

Bak'chul: "He was not completely of a high rank, but he did have one."

Mirekvaell: "A cadet has a rank you fool. Tell me his."

The Klingons laughed. Ranora looked at Mirekvaell and shot her disruptor in front of the Klingons to shut them up.

Ranora: "It's nice to see you think this is funny, but before we make another one of you disappear I think it wise you answer us."

Bak'chul: "He was what you might consider a lieutenant."

Mirekvaell: "Somehow I don't think that's all there is about him. Why would you be looking for a lieutenant on Kai Lonain's grounds?"

Bak'chul: "That answer would require us telling you why were here; on Bajor that is."

Mirekvaell: "Well, then tell me. Why are you here; on Bajor?"

Bak'chul: "I believe I gave you the information you asked for."

Ranora: "Believe that you haven't. That fact that you are still alive proves that."

Mirekvaell saw one of the Klingons behind Sof'taw reach behind his back. It looked as though he were reaching for a weapon. He moved slowly, and she in turn slowly moved her disruptor to aim directly at him.

Bak'chul: "You asked about the other officer, and I told you that he belongs to us. Why we're here on Bajor is another subject."

Ranora: "Yes, entirely. Answer the question Klingon."

The Klingon looked at Ranora with disgust as she smiled at him.

Ranora: "Oh yes, what was that... Bak'chul, son of Nam'ok from the house of the same. Just tell us what business you have here on these grounds."

Mirekvaell continued to watch the Klingon in the rear as Ranora took over her verbal battle with Bak'chul.

Bak'chul: "Tell me this, Glin. What business do you and a Romulan have here, on these grounds?"

Bak'chul could tell that Ranora was a Glin because of the small non colored Cardassian symbol worn on the left side of her uniform.

Ranora: "I have the weapon, I ask the questions. Next time I'll shoot you."

Ranora aimed her disruptor closer at him.

Bak'chul: "Yes, well we're here to negotiate business with the Kai. We had previous agreements that didn't seem to be working."

Mirekvaell and Ranora knew that the Klingon meant that they were coming to kill her as well. They wondered why the Klingons were there at the same time that they were. They must have known something. There were inconsistencies.

Without looking at Bak'chul, Mirekvaell questioned him.

Mirekvaell: "Why is it that you are here the same time that we are?"

Bak'chul: "Are you saying that we planned to come here the same time as you?"

Mirekvaell: "I asked you a question."

Bak'chul: "I do not know, Romulan. I did not question my superiors at my dismissal to their request. If you like we could go back to our ship and summon them together."

Mirekvaell saw the Klingon behind Sof'taw pull a weapon, but before he could have the chance to use it, she shot him. Everyone turned around to see him vanish.

Ranora was as surprised as the Klingons but wasn't upset. She knew Mirekvaell must've seen something that she hadn't.

Mirekvaell focused on Bak'chul and aimed at him again.

Mirekvaell: "You're next if you don't start giving straight answers."

Bak'chul knew that she was serious now, but he was highly upset that he lost an officer to her, a Romulan.

Bak'chul: "I will answer you Romulan, but first I must be assured that you will not kill anymore of my men. Neither one of you."

Mirekvaell: "I cannot assure you that. But I can assure you this, if you don't answer me for each question I ask, I'll shoot one of you."

Ranora laughed.

Ranora: "And there's only three of you left."

Ranora grinned with her statement.

Mirekvaell: "Now tell me, did you know that we were coming?"

Bak'chul: "If you mean we, as in the two of you, no. I was not aware that there would be a Cardassian nor a Romulan here in the tunnels."

Mirekvaell made a face that made the Klingon worry.

Bak'chul: "I was not aware that you'd be here in the tunnels, on the grounds of Kai Lonain, nor here in Bajor."

Mirekvaell wanted to ask him specifically if he knew that the groups of Romulans and Cardassians were coming to Bajor and if they were trying to thrwap their purposes. But to do so would allow them to know more than she was willing to let them know, if they didn't know already.

Mirekvaell: "Why are you here with no weapons? Did you arrive here on Bajor with weapons?"

There was a pause and Sof'taw spoke.

Sof'taw: "We did not arrive here with weapons because..."

Mirekvaell: "No! I want him to speak."

Mirekvaell motioned at Bak'chul with her disruptor.

Bak'chul: "We were not armed because we were here for peace talks with the Kai. That is all, nothing more."

Ranora: "I never heard of a Klingon speaking peace."

Mirekvaell: "Neither have I. You think they're lying?"

Ranora: "No doubt. Which one should we shoot? It is my turn, is it not?"

Ranora and Mirekvaell smiled.

Bak'chul: "I swear on behalf of the Sword of Kahless, that is the honest truth. You see we have no weapons, we are on a peaceful mission."

Mirekvaell spoke to Ranora as though the Klingon hadn't said anything.

Mirekvaell: "Yes, you can shoot the next one."

Ranora aimed at the Klingon who stood on the other side of Bak'chul. He quickly spoke before she fired.

4th Klingon: "Wait, Glin. I have done nothing wrong. I'm not even armed to protect myself. How can you shoot me?"

Ranora looked at him and tilted her head.

Ranora: "Like this."

Ranora shot the Klingon and smiled. She looked at Mirekvaell.

Ranora: "That was liberating. I hope I get to do it again."

Mirekvaell: "Well, there are two left."

Ranora: "Yes there are."

Mirekvaell and Ranora smiled and continued to question the other two Klingons as the wore faces of worry as to whether or not they would survive their questioning.

* Later in the Praetor's Palace...

Praetor Tafv sat at an elongated table opposite of Sindari who had decided to dine with him even though she was still suspicious of him and his recent behavior towards her.

Tafv had started eating before her arrival. He had only eaten one course but still hungered, although he was beginning to wonder if he was hungry for food or Mirekvaell.

After Sindari sat down he placed his utensil on his plate. He waited for her to speak as he knew she would. He would've given her his usual greeting to the table but didn't want to speak to her.

Tafv was still slightly angered at her for questioning him of his actions in his home. He would wait to find out if she had indeed forgiven him as he figured she would.

Sindari: "Veherrh. I apologize for my previous outburst."

Tafv had lost his appetite. Not just because he knew that she wasn't completely at fault, or that he didn't love her, but it was the sound of her voice. He wanted her to stop talking but he didn't know how to tell her.

Sindari: "My sister will arrive tonight. She is looking forward to seeing you again."

Tafv tried to ignore her. A female house servant came to Tafv with a large plate of desserts as she thought that he was finished with his main course. The sign that he stopped eating was usually a sign that he wanted dessert. He waved her away and smiled at her just to see Sindari's reaction.

The house servant was distracted at Tafv's smile and almost lost her balance. She couldn't believe that he was so beautiful. She had only seen him while he was sleep, when she and another house servant fanned him at night. She looked at Tafv's dark brown eyes and perfect lips that pulled at the corners of his mouth as he smiled. She glanced at Sindari and moved slowly away from Tafv.

Sindari tried to ignore Tafv's smile at the young female. She continued to speak about her sister.

Sindari: "Eviess was wondering if she could stay a little longer this time. She needs some time to recuperate from some...heart-felt issues. And I told her it would be okay."

Tafv didn't want to speak to her, but he wanted to know why Eviess wanted to stay longer. The last time she came to visit her stay amounted to nearly a month. He was getting furious.

Tafv: "You, told her it would be okay? Where did you receive permission to lend out my home as a place to rehabilitate? How long is she staying? What problem does she have this time?"

Sindari didn't like Tafv's tone but tried to answer his questions appropriately.

Sindari: "I told you earlier that she was coming to visit. She needs to see me."

Tafv: "How long will she be here?"

Sindari: "Not long."

Tafv: "You said that last time and she was here nearly a month."

Tafv thought for a moment. Sindari was quiet. Another house servant tried to place some desserts on Tafv's plate and he pushed her hand away. He was becoming agitated at Mirekvaell's absence and frustrated at Sindari's aptness to try to run his home.

Tafv: "I've made my decision."

Sindari looked as though she would cry again. Tafv hated when she did that. She knew most of his weaknesses and seeing her or any female in pain hurt him; especially if he thought he was the reason of the pain.

Tafv: "I don't want your sister here."

Sindari knew not to question Tafv's decisions. But she couldn't help it. Eviess was her sister, and they were close.

Sindari: "Why? She's my sister. I have a right to see my sister."

Tafv: "Stop talking. I don't want to hear your argument, nor your voice anymore tonight."

Sindari was upset. She looked at the floor and frowned. How could he be so mean? Did he love her? He must feel something for her. She would have to challenge him.

Sindari: "I will visit with my sister."

Tafv: "I have not forbidden you from visiting with your sister. I would not do that. You just won't visit with her here."

Sindari: "What kind of a man are you Tafv? I've forgiven you for being unfaithful to me."

Tafv: "Unfaithful? To you? You don't know what you're talking about and again I ask you to stop speaking."

A house servant came to Sindari and attempted to service her with desserts. Sindari stood up from her seat. She grabbed her plate of desserts from the house servant and threw them in Tafv's direction. Nothing from the plate hit Tafv, in fact she was a bad thrower and most of the food fell to the floor.

Several house servants came to clean the spill that Sindari made.

Tafv got up from his seat and walked over to where Sindari stood. Sindari wasn't sure what he would do, she stood and faced him.

Tafv slapped Sindari hard. Sindari nearly lost her balance and held her face as she looked back at him. He was just as surprised as she was. He wasn't sure that he meant to hit her that hard. He supposed it was from all the frustration he carried and that it was trying to release itself in that one gesture. He had to stand by his actions.

Tafv: "If you want to act like a Klingon, then I'll treat you like one."

Sindari tried to hit Tafv back but was unsuccessful as he grabbed hold of both her arms and shook her. Sindari thought that Tafv wanted her. He held onto her and she smiled. Maybe he wanted to perform love-making the way the Klingons did. She didn't try to fight him.

Tafv thought that Sindari was behaving strange, like she was enjoying him. He let her go and she threw her arms around him.

Sindari: "Hwiiyo her'u. Mayri, h'fir (hfai) ru thlom." (I am lonely. Come, mate with me.)

Sindari started kissing him on his neck and holding him tighter. Tafv took hold of her arms and almost fought to remove them from his neck. He pushed Sindari away from him still holding onto her arms. He looked at her as though she had taken ill. She couldn't be serious. What was wrong with her? Again he let her arms go. How dare she put on such a performance in front of the house servants. She must be ill, he thought.

Sindari: "Tafv, it's been two years. I haven't been with anyone. Hnalo thlo au." (I need you.)

Tafv: "Khoi, Sindari. I will leave you to work out your problems. I will resolve my own."

Tafv turned to leave the room. Sindari called to him.

Sindari: "Tafv, please. I need you. Hnalo thlo hru'fir!"

Tafv responded.

Tafv: "If you continue this foolishness I will force you to aid the servants in the mess you have made. You say you want to bond with me, yet you don't know how to obey me. Still you speak after I have told you several times to stop. I have tried to be civil with you Sindari, but you are causing me to become angry and unpleasant. I bid you again, stop speaking."

Sindari: "Tonight, I will to meet with my sister."

Tafv was frustrated. She still continued to converse after he had told her not to. It was as though he were speaking to a non-comprehensible holographic program that he couldn't delete. Why was she so unresponsive to his wishes? He looked at her and she wore a faint smile as thought she were purposely trying to unnerve him. He wanted to strangle her. He showed no anger in his speech to her.

Tafv: "Good. And when you leave, if you leave, do not bother to return."

Tafv turned again and walked out of the room. He knew that Sindari wouldn't leave; she would rather die to leave his side. Although, he wouldn't mind it if she proved him wrong this time; but he knew that she wouldn't. The servants tried not to let Sindari see them smile as they pretended to be busy with the cleaning.

Sindari didn't know what to do. She couldn't cry, she knew that it didn't work on him anymore. She couldn't leave. If she did, she knew that Tafv was serious and he may have her killed if she tried to re-enter his palace. She sat on the floor and called to one of the house servants to carry her to her room.

Sindari felt that she could at least have some control over something, even though it was minimal she decided to be mean to the house servant that Tafv smiled at during dinner.

The house servant struggled but managed to carry Sindari to her room which was quite a distance from the dining hall. Sindari smiled at the servant's struggle but cried for Tafv on the inside. She was beginning to wonder if she should hold out for him much longer; it was starting to look as though he wouldn't bond with her after all. Sindari would wait. She wait until the end of time for Tafv, if that's what he required. She would do anything for him, still.

Tafv heard Sindari whimper a few times as she slept on the floor in front of his doorway. He ignored her and thought about Mirekvaell. He called Mirekvaell's name a few times and Sindari awoke when she heard him.

She could tell that he had been pleased by her, this Mirekvaell. She was envious that another woman had experienced Tafv before her. She had waited nearly two years to bond with Tafv and would wait longer. Was this how he repaid her for waiting, by pleasing another woman in their home? She would have to challenge this woman for her mate. She would die for Tafv; and kill for him too.

She left the entrance of his room and waited for her sister, Eviess to arrive.

*17 & 18* Near the Center of the Tunnels...

Taul with his group continued towards where they believed Kai Lonain would be resting. They were a little eager for targets as the rush of killing the wounded Klingon still lingered. Taul didn't mind them talking among each other as long as they were quiet.

Galina stopped chatting with Terrh and Jatrak, and walked ahead to catch up with Taul. Taul knew something was different when he noticed her voice become silent from the others. He could smell her and tried to ignore her.

He would have little luck as she began to speak.

Galina: "Taul."

Taul didn't respond. He took a deep breath and hoped that she would just talk or go away. She reminded him of a runt that tagged along, somewhat the way his youngest sister did to him when he would try to be with his friends.

Galina: "Taul. I know you can hear me."

Taul tried not to sound rude. He just didn't want to be bothered.

Taul: "I hear a lot of things."

Galina: "I wanted to talk to you."

He was silent and continued to stare ahead and focus little on her words.

Galina: "Taul?"

Taul: "Talk."

Galina: "I was thinking of what you said. I think I will apply for the Romulan Intelligence Academy. I was hoping that you could give me a recommendation."

Taul: "I recommend you don't apply to the Academy. You would never be accepted and you know that. You belong to the Cardassian Military and are a citizen of Cardassia. Please don't engage me in senseless conversation."

Galina wondered why Taul was uninterested in her. She was Cardassian. He did like Cardassians didn't he? What was it he saw in Ranora that he didn't see in her? Galina thought her family was revered better in Cardassian society than Ranora's; at least her brother wasn't thought to be a spy or a Federation operative.

Galina at least could say that she had a Legate in her family, and Ranora couldn't even say that anymore.

Galina watched Taul bite his lip and she wanted to kiss him.

Galina: "What are you thinking of Taul?"

Taul: "If I wanted you to know, I'd be..."

Taul stopped himself before he said talking, because he thought that he would say something to hurt her feelings. He knew that she liked him, but he wasn't interested.

Galina: "You'd be talking?"

Taul: "I have a lot on my mind right now. What is it you really want?"

Galina wanted to tell him, but she was not eager to have him make a fool of her.

Galina: "How long have you been with Glin Ranora?"

Taul couldn't believe that she asked him that. What was her problem? Did she really think that he would tell her? Maybe he would tell her to get her off his back. Why did she really want to know anyway?

Taul: "She is a great friend of mine. I've known her over five years."

Galina: "So she's very precious to you?"

Taul noticed that Galina chose her words carefully, and that he must do the same. He thought about lying. He had several lies he could tell her; but thought that the truth might shut her up.

Taul: "I am very sentimental about close friends. You could say that Ranora is precious to me. Very precious."

Galina didn't really want to ask him anything else and she became silent. She thought that if she pried anymore, he might tell her something that she didn't want to know. She still wanted to touch him.

Galina: "I just want to talk with you."

Taul was silent. He could see that nothing could make her quiet. Galina grabbed hold of Taul's hand. He removed his hand from her grasp.

Taul: "Talk with your mouth."

Galina: "I wanted to know what you would do if I held your hand."

Taul: "Now you know."

Taul was upset. He thought that she was trying to set him up for something he was unprepared for and didn't want to take time for. He faced her.

Taul: "Galina."

Taul spoke quietly as not to alarm the others. Galina was startled because Taul said her name.

Taul: "Please stop. I know what you want, but I'm not interested."

Galina looked away and slowed in her pace.

Taul: "I'm not opposed to being... your friend. I'm just not looking for anyone to be intimate with."

Galina: "Except Ranora?"

Taul was upset. Who was she to question his private life. This was not the time nor place.

Taul: "What I want to do with Ranora is my business. It does not concern you in any way, shape or form. Why do you constantly attempt to obtain my affection after I have made it known that I am not interested? Why do you defy me?"

Galina knew that he had been intimate with Ranora after he said that; but she still wanted his affection.

Galina: "Because I love you."

Taul frowned at her. Galina knew she wasn't "in love" with him, just in love with the thought of him. Taul didn't care to hear about it.

Taul: "If you do not stop this right now, I will write a report on you that will make your commanding officers consider relieving you from your duties as an officer in the military."

Galina thought to herself. She had no idea how upset Taul had become. She thought that it must've been a mistake to touch his hand. Maybe he hated that. There must be another way to get to him. She was still attracted to him, even though his words were sharp.

Galina lied to him and thought that she could make it seem as though she wanted to patch things up with him.

Galina: "I had no idea you felt that way Taul."

Taul knew she wasn't sincere in her words. The words had meaning but she wasn't using them correctly. She made the words seem false and dense. He didn't want to talk to her anymore; he figured he had said what he wanted to say. She should get the point soon.

Galina: "I understand now. I won't bother you about that anymore."

Taul: "You are admitting to have bothered me?"

Galina: "I said that I apologize."

Taul: "Actually you haven't, but just the same let's say you did and leave it at that."

Galina: "Keshpre-likhro'biv." (I'm sorry.)

Galina looked up at Taul and she could tell he was chaffing his teeth; his jaw moved rapidly.

Galina: "That's Kardasi for..."

Taul: "I know what it means."

Galina: "I'd say it in Romulan, but I don't know how. Would you tell me?"

Taul: "Galina. Go to the end of the line and keep back watch. You should be prepared in case anything attempt to encounter us from behind."

Galina was surprised at his order. She knew that was a Romulan trait; to order someone elsewhere when they were bored of your presence. She obeyed his order and went to the end of line.

Jatrak as well as Terrh, noticed that Galina left Taul's side to trail behind. Jatrak wondered why she was back there. He tried to get her attention but she wouldn't look at him.

Terrh knew why Taul sent her from his side. He decided to be quiet, as he could tell that Taul was becoming nerved again.

* At the Other End of the Tunnel...

After Mirekvaell and Ranora had finished obtaining all the information they thought was valuable from the Klingons they encountered, they disposed of them.

They continued to walk steadily through the tunnel and hoped to reach the end soon.

Ranora: "I can't wait to get back to the camp."

Mirekvaell: "I can't wait to get back to Romulus."

Ranora: "Oh?"

Mirekvaell: "Why do you say it like that?"

Ranora: "I thought you'd want to get back to someone named Taf. Tav?"

Mirekvaell wondered how many times she must have said his name. She tried to make it seem unimportant, but couldn't. She loved Tafv. Mirekvaell smiled.

Mirekvaell: "Tafv. Yes, I do hope to see him soon."

Ranora: "Who is he? Is he to be your bond-mate?"

Mirekvaell: "He's the Praetor. And yes, I was thinking of letting him know that I am interested in becoming his bond-mate. He is not bonded. He's quite handsome, not to mention skillful."

Ranora knew what Mirekvaell meant by him being skillful, she smiled. She was surprised. The only thing she could equate that with would be to demand Dukat leave his family of two wives and seven children; being that one didn't live with them, and forcing him to marry her. It would never happen. However, she was still quite in love with Taul.

Ranora: "You're going to tell the Praetor that you want to bond with him?"

Mirekvaell: "If he is not wise enough to ask me first, yes."

Ranora did like Mirekvaell's forwardness. Ranora was forward at times, but not like Mirekvaell. Mirekvaell was the boldest woman she knew. She liked that about her. Ranora smiled in her words.

Ranora: "Keep me informed. I hope you name one of your children after me."

Mirekvaell: "Ranora? Ranora. It could be Romulan; but I think I'm going to stick with tradition. What about you? You plan to marry a Cardassian?"

Ranora: "I don't know."

Mirekvaell was puzzled to Ranora's answer. What did she mean she didn't know? Did she have more than one lover? It had been rumored that Ranora was more than just Dukat's aid at one time, although they both denied it when questioned.

Mirekvaell: "You don't know? Are in love with two men?"

Ranora didn't answer, she wasn't sure what to say. It was obvious that she could never have Dukat for herself. It was unfair, but he had made that apparent to her, on several occasions. She hated him for that sometimes, but she loved him more than she hated him. She tried not to think about him.

Mirekvaell: "You do love Taul?"

Ranora: "I'm sorry, I didn't answer you."

Ranora skipped over the previous question Mirekvaell asked and answered the one at hand.

Ranora: "Yes, of course I love Taul. I'd do anything for him."

Mirekvaell noticed that Ranora skipped her first question as well. She didn't persist, she already knew the answer.

Mirekvaell: "Well, does he know?"

Ranora: " Yes, he knows. I told him that I wanted to marry him a long time ago. But he convinced me that we both weren’t ready."

Mirekvaell: "I see. And now? Does he think that you are both ready?"

Ranora: "I don't know. I know that I am."

Mirekvaell: "Are you certain about that?"

Ranora: "Yes. I am."

Mirekvaell nodded.

Ranora: "What about you? Are you going to continue your work if you.. after you bond with the Praetor?"

Ranora corrected herself. She knew that Mirekvaell was bold enough to ask the Praetor to bond with her, there would be no doubt that she would win him over.

Mirekvaell heard steps ahead of them. She put her hand to her mouth to signal for Ranora to silence. Ranora heard the steps as well. She rolled her eyes and whispered.

Ranora: "More Klingons?"

Mirekvaell: "Maybe. Could be Bajorans."

Ranora nodded and they continued. They saw shadows come closer from around the corner and stopped in their tracks. It was easy to see that the light was behind the those coming towards them. The shadows slowed nearly to a stop.

They continued to come close but it was obvious that they had weapons drawn.

Mirekvaell hated suspense and called out.

Mirekvaell: "Who's there?"

There was no response.

Ranora: "Identify yourselves."

The weapon was let down and a response was made.

Taul: "Ranora? Mirekvaell?"

Ranora: "Taul?"

Taul: "Are the two of you alone?"

Mirekvaell: "Yes, are you?"

Taul: "Yes. We are okay."

Mirekvaell and Ranora ran towards the others. Mirekvaell made it to the group before Ranora, since Taul ran half way and met her first.

Terrh was excited and happy to see Mirekvaell, as was Jatrak; who was soon forgotten, being that Mirekvaell remembered how much she loved Tafv, the Praetor.

Galina smiled and hugged Mirekvaell as the others had to welcome her back. The others waited for Taul and Ranora to come from behind the winding corner to greet them. Terrh questioned Mirekvaell about her feat as she told of their eliminating the Kai, and a few Klingons as well. Galina walked around the corner and saw Taul and Ranora kissing.

She watched them kiss passionately as Taul's hands moved under Ranora's blouse and Ranora's hands roamed on Tauls' back.

Galina was upset. She hated Ranora for that. Galina didn't care if Taul and Ranora had been together years ago. She wanted him. He had a stable job, and didn't have to leave home if it wasn't required; he would make the perfect husband. Not only that, Galina knew that Romulan men didn't care for more than one wife, and that was something that interested her.

She didn't want to be like her mother, who was the first wife but usually pushed aside for the youth of the second wife. And she didn't want to marry an older man just so that she could have the attention that she thought she deserved. She could find a Cardassian man to suit her needs, but to ask him not to take a second wife was almost a crime. Not many men would like such a request to be proposed of them. They would think it unfair, as would Cardassian society. Some men would abide by their first wife's wishes, but it would take time to find a man like that; and Galina didn't really want to take time. She really only joined the military to marry.

The group made their way through the tunnel and back to the coves, as it was quite dark, and for some reason there didn't seem to be many guards on the grounds. Galina continued to watch Taul trail behind with Ranora as he made sure not to kiss her when anyone turned around. Galina caught them a few times, and it only frustrated her. She tried to keep near Mirekvaell so that her story would keep her mind off of Taul.

*19 * Midnight in the Praetor's Palace...

Sindari greet her sister, Eviess at the entrance of the palace. Eviess walked slowly as she squinted through tear-stained eyes to see Sindari. She walked faster towards her.

Eviess: "Sindari! I've missed you."

Sindari ran to her sister and hugged her.

Sindari: "I've missed you as well Eviess. I have so much to tell you."

Eviess: "Hnafiv'rau." (Let me hear it.)

Sinadari quietly lead her sister through the magnificent halls of the palace. Eviess smiled as she walked. Sindari wondered if Tafv would have awaken with their glee and stop Eviess from coming in, but he hadn't. They made their way to Sindari's room. Sindari spoke to a servant that stood outside her room.

Sindari: "Hannam, bring us some treats. My sister is here, this a celebration."

The house servant turned to Sindari and bowed as she went to follow her order. Eviess smiled as she sat on a rug in Sindari's room.

Eviess: "It's nice to see you still have some power here."

Sindari: "Yes. That's what I wanted to talk to you about."

Eviess: "What? Are you finally going to bond with Tafv?"

Sindari: "Well, he's been with someone."

Eviess: "He has? How do you know?"

Sindari: "I need your help."

Eviess: "Tell me first Sindari, are you sure he has been with someone else?"

Sindari: "I know he has. He calls her name all the time. He moans in his sleep calling for her, as though she left him and may never return."

Eviess sat and tried to take in what Sindari was saying but she kept thinking about Tebok and how he turned her away after they had been together for so long. Eviess wanted to take a break to get away from problems dealing with men, but it seemed Sindari was pushing her back into it. She tried to be more attentive.

Sindari: "I hope she never comes back, but I need you to help me make sure that she doesn't."

Eviess was still drifting as her eyes nearly filled with tears.

Sindari: "Eviess?"

Eviess: "I'm listening."

Eviess smiled and blinked away her tears.

Sindari: "Will you help me?"

Eviess: "I will try. What is her name?"

Sindari placed her fingers to Eviess' mouth and got up and walked over to the doorway to see if anyone was listening. She found the house servant with a tray of sweets standing outside. Sindari frowned at her, and snatched the tray from her.

Sindari: "I should slap you. Are you alone?"

Hannam: "Yes. I just returned with the sesketh, I thought it would be more pleasing to your sister's mouth since she has been gone from ch'Rihan for some time." (sesketh = sugary confection on a spice stick)

Sindari: "Leave my doorway now. If I see you here again, I'll make sure that you never serve in this house again."

The servant knew that Sindari's words could not be taken too lightly, although it was highly doubtful that Tafv would rid someone because Sindari didn't like them.

Still, Hannam didn't want to challenge Sindari's words. She nodded, bowed and walked away.

Sindari looked back at Eviess and resumed her position in front of her on the large rug.

Eviess: "Well. Are you going to tell me her name?"

Sindari: "Ie. I just had to make sure that no one was listening."

Eviess was beginning to wonder about her younger sister.

Eviess: "I've asked you nearly three times already."

Sindari hadn't really noticed that she was avoiding saying Mirekvaell's name. She didn't want to say it, especially after the way Tafv had called it; how he moaned her name.

Sindari: "Her name is Mirekvaell."

Eviess choked on her dessert and started coughing. Sindari looked at her and started to worry.

Sindari: "Eviess? Are you okay?"

Eviess couldn't speak, and her coughing got louder. Sindari was hoping that she would wake Tafv, although he was on the other side of the palace. He preferred it that way. He had to have privacy from her; even though he often would wake up to find her curled on a mat outside his doorway. He ignored it most of the time and stepped over her to continue with his day.

Eviess grabbed an elegantly designed glass filled with water and tried to drink.

Sindari: "Eviess? Be quiet. Tafv is sleeping."

Eviess got her breath back. She still sounded as though she had a cold, her voice was still raspy.

Eviess: "I'm choking and you're worried about him waking up?"

Sindari looked at Eviess and thought she was being selfish to think about herself just because something didn't agree with her.

Sindari: "I don't want him to wake up."

Eviess: "He's on the other side of the palace."

Sindari changed the subject back to Eviess, she knew that would get her mind off their argument. Eviess was self-involved. She always thought of herself first, and when others did, she didn't notice it because she thought it should be that way anyway.

Sindari: "Are you okay?"

Eviess: "I'm okay. When did you see Mirekvaell? This khre'Arrain Mirekvaell."

Sindari: "She's a khre'Arrain? That's higher than you!"

Eviess looked at Sindari and squinted her eyes at her. She wanted to hit her for that, but figured she hated Mirekvaell more than her own sister. She may still help her.

Eviess: "That's not the point. The point is, that once you let he in your home, she'll take your man. She's done it before."

Sindari: "How do you know? How do you know her? Have you seen her?"

Eviess: "That's why I came here. To get away from Tebok. He feel in love with her, and hasn't spoken to me since. I know she's done something to him. I think she put a spell on him."

Sindari: "Eviess, I'm just as upset as you, maybe more. There's no such thing as that woman placing spells on Tebok. I want you to be serious with me. Do you know her?"

Eviess thought Sindari was becoming quiet bothersome and was beginning to wonder why she even came to visit her. She thought about leaving.

Eviess: "Sindari, how can you be so selfish? You think you're the only one with problems? I told you I know Mirekvaell, now what you want to believe is something different. I don't want to talk about your beliefs right now."

Sindari: "That's quite selfish of you Eviess. My beliefs aren't important to you?"

Eviess: "Do you want to get rid of Mirekvaell or what?"

Sindari: "Ie. You know I do. I hate Tafv calling her name like he's waiting for her to come back to please him again."

Eviess: "Have you seen her?"

Sindari: "No. I haven't."

Eviess: "Well, if Tafv is that serious about her, and you being promised to him, almost makes it possible for you to challenge her."

Sindari: "Almost?"

Eviess: "Well, just because you were promised to him doesn't mean anything. He never really accepted, he only allows you to stay here."

Sindari: "I do to have rights over Tafv. He's mine! You're just jealous of me Eviess."

Sindari bore a strange smile as though she weren't thinking clearly. Eviess looked at Sindari like she was ill.

Eviess: "What are you talking about?"

Sindari: "You want Tafv for yourself. You always have. He's mine and I say that I can challenge for him."

Sindari's voice became loud and Tafv was standing outside her door with Hannam, who told him about Eviess' visit. He was looking in, thought the thick deep green draperies that flowed to the floor. Two guards stood at his side. He didn't need them he had just become accustomed to them.

Eviess: "If I wanted Tafv, I would have him by now."

Eviess knew as well as Sindari and Tafv, that she was lying.

Eviess: "If it were only a matter of challenging you for him; you'd have no say in this palace today. There's no way that you can defend yourself against Mirekvaell. She's very skilled, it would take more than just the two of us to bring her down."

Sindari: "You're wrong and you know it. Tafv would never choose you over me. You're too selfish."

Eviess: "But he chose Mirekvaell over you."

Eviess knew that her words hurt her, she tried to make up for it.

Eviess: "Sindari, why are you arguing with me? I thought you wanted my help."

Sindari: "Not if you're trying to take Tafv from me. I will kill anyone that stands in my way of having Tafv. Anyone."

Eviess: "Even Tafv, himself?"

Sindari thought about what Eviess said. She would never hurt Tafv. She would rather die than to inflict pain on him.

Eviess: "He doesn't love you Sindari. He would've bonded with you months ago. It's been two years. Don't you understand?"

Sindari held a sharp utensil in her hand, she squeezed it tightly. Tafv watched her, and was tempted to see if Sindari would kill her sister. He knew that Sindari was ill now. She must've have driven herself crazy being obsessed over him, more than he thought. He knew she would exaggerate often and that she wasn't as sharp-minded as she was when had first met her. She lost almost all her charm.

Sindari was about to plunge after Eviess. He didn't wish for her blood in his home and entered Sindari's room. Sindari dropped the utensil, Eviess had no idea that Sindari ever held it, or what her intentions were with it.

Eviess smiled at Tafv as though she were completely innocent. She wasn't aware of the fact that she was not welcome in Tafv's home, though she thought it out of order that he didn't greet her upon her arrival.

Tafv: "Sindari, you have disobeyed me again, for the last time."

Sindari was startled. She didn't know what to expect. What was he going to do?

Eviess: "What's wrong?"

Tafv took a deep breath before continuing.

Tafv: "Sindari, you know what I told you this evening, and you chose not to abide by my rules."

Sindari knelled quickly at Tafv's feet and begged for his forgiveness.

Sindari: "Verehrrh, Tafv, I'm so sorry. Please forgive me. I'm sorry Tafv. Verehrrh."

Eviess watched her sister nearly worship the Praetor and she became distraught. She was wondering what was actually going on while she was away.

Tafv: "Please remove yourself from me, and remove your sister from my home. If you do not within 5 minutes; guards will remove you both from my land."

Tafv walked away, but dragged Sindari for about two feet. She didn't want to let him go, but Eviess pulled her from him. Sindari tried to push Eviess but missed and started to cry.

Eviess stood up and grabbed her belongings. Sindari was so distracted by Tafv's words she didn't notice her sister walk out. Sindari lay on the floor crying and cursing Tafv, yet saying how much she loved him.

Tafv felt sorry for Sindari. He regret hitting earlier and wish he could apologize without her becoming too attached, or trying to engage him in something he didn't want.

Tafv didn't know what to do for her. He thought it was best that he rid her of his home as well. He ordered the guards to escort her with her sister off his home. He made sure that all her clothes would be sent with her. He cared for her, somewhat, but she need something that he couldn't offer her. Mental aid.

He had offered her the option of speaking to the palace counselor several months ago when he noticed that she was becoming distant from reality, but she refused and pretended as though nothing were wrong.

Eviess helped her sister into the vehicle that Tafv allowed his drivers to use as they escorted the women to their parents home.

Tafv felt lonely and thought of Mirekvaell even as he watched Sindari and Eviess leave his home. Even though he wasn't interested in Sindari, he did welcome her company sometimes. It was for the best. He would have his home redone for the home-coming of Mirekvaell. He would welcome her and do his best to make sure that she knew how much she was missed.

He walked away from the entrance and was followed by guards to his room. He thought about Mirekvaell and how he wanted to please his her. He thought about where he'd love to place his hands, his lips, his tongue and himself in and on her. He wanted to touch her and he said her name a couple of times before falling asleep.

The women that came in to fan Tafv heard him speak in his sleep. They knew what kind of dreams he was having and tried not to make too much noise, as they too wanted to know how she pleased him.

Tafv mumbled a few words that he spoke to Mirekvaell before she left him. He told her that he loved her, and that he wanted to bond with her. He was serious about Mirekvaell, he was in love with her and would do whatever he could to make sure that she was happy too. He knew she would be happy with him, he was the Praetor. That didn't really matter, because he knew that titles weren't important to her. It was the person that she was impressed with; and he hoped he had impressed her.

He remembered them standing near the entrance to the palace and Mirekvaell walking in front of him. He watched her walk and thought about canceling the assignment. He knew she'd be upset. It was clear to see that she was not one to make upset. He still wanted to keep her there, with him. Mirekvaell stopped just before stepping out the doorway completely. Tafv stood in front of her. His guards watched, but Sindari was no where in sight; all the better.

Tafv placed his hand on her cheek before he spoke. Mirekvaell closed her eyes. Tafv spoke with a thick Romulan accent. Mirekvaell felt numb when she heard it, but hid it well.

Tafv: "Mirekvaell, I will wait for you to return. When you do return I want you to come here."

Mirekvaell smiled at him, before she could answer he spoke again.

Tafv: "I will send for you here. I know that you will not let me down; you will return to me. Hnalo thlo-au." (I need you.)

Mirekvaell: "I will not let you down."

Tafv's hand fell slowly from her face to her neck as he leaned over to kiss her. His hand continued to her breast and rested there as Mirekvaell kissed him back, passionately as though they had loved a long time.

Tafv pressed himself against Mirekvaell and became more active in motions and he held her with both hands. Mirekvaell wanted Tafv, and she wanted to stay and let him please her all day, but she had to leave. He would let her stay too, if she wanted, but she was prepared for the mission and was ready for what faced her.

Mirekvaell tried to stop kissing, but pulled him close and she remembered how the muscles in his back contracted the night before. She spoke through their kiss.

Mirekvaell: "Tafv... I will return."

Tafv continued to kiss Mirekvaell, he didn't want to let her go. If she wanted to leave bad enough, she would have to force herself from his grip; and Tafv held on tightly.

Tafv held onto Mirekvaell's waist and pressed against her as though he could please her through her clothes. His right hand touched her breast softly under her tunic. Mirekvaell could feel that Tafv wanted to do more than kiss, but she didn't have time and she needed to meet with her junior officers for a quick briefing.

Tafv made it difficult for her to let go, and she felt a strange feeling come over her. Like the feeling she had when her friend, the Cardassian female who raised her, had died. Almost like she wanted to cry. She brushed the feeling away quickly and pulled away from Tafv. She knew that if she didn't, she would probably never leave.

Tafv looked sad, like his eyes were hurt. Mirekvaell couldn't stare at him long. The feelings might come back and she didn't have time for them. She placed her hands at his waist and smiled.

Mirekvaell: "I will return."

Tafv: "I will be here."

Mirekvaell smiled and kissed him again.

Mirekvaell: "I know."

Mirekvaell turned to leave and Tafv watched her until he couldn't see her anymore. He went to his room and demanded not to be bothered by anyone for the remainder of the day. He didn't even want food serviced to him and he especially did not want to see Sindari. He made sure the guards outside his room were aware of that, and enforced his orders.

He was heard moaning throughout the day as though he were ill. The guards wondered about their Praetor, but made sure not to purge his request.

Tafv would wait for Mirekvaell and pray to the Elements that she would return soon.

*20* The Return Home...

Both the Cardassian and the Romulan teams were on their way back to their homeworlds. Mirekvaell thought about Praetor Tafv, and how she couldn't wait to be with him again. Tafv would please her and keep her happy. She thought about how she would tell him that she wanted to bond with him. She knew that he wouldn't refuse her, but she had to be certain that she would surprise him; that is if he doesn't surprise her first.

Ranora thought about her group as she watched them sit quietly, Galina nearly sleep against the back of the chair she sat in. She wondered why Galina would defy her. Taul told Ranora everything that happened while she and Mirekvaell were apart from them. How galina constantly tried to engage herself in conversation with Taul, and how she took hold of his hand. It didn't really matter, because Ranora knew that Taul wasn't interested. She felt Taul squeeze her waist as she watched Galina. Ranora forgot about her and looked up at Taul. She wanted to kiss him but Jatrak was watching. That was all she need; to have some fresh-cut Junior Grade Glin to write a report of her fraternizing with a Romulan officer while they were on duty, to ruin her chances of becoming First Grade Glin. It may still take her a while to make First Grade. The next mission could push her over; she would have to be patient. After all, it took her brother 9 years to make Fourth Grade Gul, and he was nearly pushed back to Glin after accusations of him being a Federation operative. Ranora wondered about him; she hoped he wasn't. That would only push their family back from having importance in society, and social appearance was important in the Cardassian lifestyle.

Terrh sat near Mirekvaell and watched her face. He knew that she was thinking of something important, he just had no way of knowing what. Mirekvaell blocked her thoughts, but she could feel Terrh's stare and she turned to him. Terrh was embarrassed and closed his eyes. Mirekvaell smiled. She knew she was powerful, even her glance installed Terrh. She figured he was still shocked at her marvelous story of the Kai and the Klingons that she and Ranora ran into during group separation. Mirekvaell didn't care. She closed her eyes and thought how Tafv pleased her, and how he would please her when she got back to him. She remembered how he was so serious before she left and how he nearly demanded her return. He didn't need to ask twice, he didn't need to ask at all; at least not verbally. She would come back to him anyway; he had already asked with his mind and his body.

Ranora wanted to go to Romulus with Taul, and send her officers on to Cardassia, or drop them off and use the excuse that she wanted to ensure the Romulans a safe journey home. It was impossible and she knew it. The ride they shared would be short as Cardassia wasn't far from Bajor. The Cardassians would rendezvous with the vessel that was to carry them through to Cardassia Prime as the Romulans would with the Warbird that was waiting for them at the same Space Post.

Mirekvaell and Ranora smiled at each other as they neared the Space Post. Jatrak had become distracted at Galina's loud sleeping that he didn't see Taul kiss Ranora, but Terrh did, though he didn't care. Ranora would come to see Taul after she was briefed and informed of her time off until her next duty. Mirekvaell stood and waited for the doors to open as the small shuttle they were on docked at the Space Post.

She still had her mind on Tafv and wondered what would await her as she made her way to his palace.

The shuttle doors opened and everyone begin to exit. Taul stood behind Ranora and waited for her to finish saying goodbye to Mirekvaell and wishing her a wonderful time with the Praetor. Mirekvaell promised to keep in touch before she exit the space craft. Ranora noticed that Galina tried to linger behind to see what she and Taul would do. Ranora insisted that Galina board the Cardassian vessel and Galina left after she gave Taul one last look. Taul's face remained stern until she was out of sight. Ranora kissed Taul for long time and promised to see him within a few hours. He promised to wait and greet her upon her arrival. They both exit the shuttle craft to boarded their ships.

Jatrak stood outside near the Romulan Warbird speaking to Mirekvaell. Ranora could tell that he was bothering her or at least keeping her from leaving. Ranora called to him and Mirekvaell smiled.

*On Cardassia...

Ranora reported to Gul Vaar and turned in her apparatus of the mission, the crew, and the work habits kept by both teams. She discussed how a continuing alliance with the Romulans would benefit Cardassian officers, children, and society.

Ranora: "The Romulans are a good people and should be considered for continuing a close association with us."

Vaar: "Yes, Ranora, but how would that benefit Cardassia? The Romulans do not follow Cardassian guidelines or rules. You're a child. Leave this to the Legates of the Union."

Ranora: "It would benefit Cardassia the same way it would benefit Romulus. We are both a strong people who have overcome so much and although we don't follow Romulan rules or guidelines we are both strong in our beliefs and keep our regulations along the same guidelines."

Vaar: "Ranora. The Legates and Union Counsels can handle such decisions. Why do you stress over this?"

Ranora continued her argument.

Ranora: "I think we should create a fleet. Where it consists of Romulan and Cardassian officers. They would follow different rules, set by the Romulan and Cardassian militaries of course. They would have to negotiate on several ideas, but I think it could work. They would be separate from the Cardassian and the Romulan militaries. Yet, it could aid either planet as needed. It would be it's own entity."

Gul Vaar laughed a little.

Vaar: "And would you call this alliance?"

Ranora thought for a second.

Ranora: "The Alliance?"

Vaar smiled at Ranora's eagerness.

Vaar: "Ranora, have you fallen for one of those Romulan men?"

Ranora didn't want to seem obvious. Why would he ask such a question anyway?

Ranora: "Just because I have a good idea, and have worked closely with the Romulans a few times doesn't mean that I've fallen for one."

Vaar: "It doesn't mean that you haven't either."

Ranora: "It is true that I enjoy working them."

Vaar: "I have no doubt about that."

Ranora smiled.

Vaar: "I noticed you have scheduled your self on for a shuttle to Romulus. Set to leave in a few hours."

Ranora: "I just want to make sure that the Romulans made it safely. It is quite a distance from here."

Vaar: "You do have communicating devices don't you? Oh, does yours not work?"

Ranora changed the subject before Vaar could pry anymore.

Ranora: "Vaar. I am serious about my idea."

Vaar: "I know you are. Perhaps, I can get the council to look it over."

Ranora: "Besides, I heard a one Gul Vaar will soon turn Legate."

Vaar made a face of sarcastic surprise.

Vaar: "Now where did you hear that?"

Ranora: "Vaar, you know better than that, a Cardassian officer never tells spoken secrets. It's the unspoken secrets that get us places."

Vaar: "Ranora, I don't ever think I'll understand that new philosophy that your generation studied."

Ranora: "Actually, you do. The wording is just different."

Vaar smiled at Ranora and offered her dinner before she left on her passage towards ch'Rihan. Ranora accepted.

* On Romulus...

Mirekvaell arrived at the Praetor's palace with two guards that were sent to her disposal. When Mirekvaell arrived at the palace, Tafv waited outside for her. He was dressed elegantly in long robes that blended subtle shades of purple and blue. Mirekvaell was still dressed in her military uniform. Tafv smiled when he saw Her. He could hardly wait to greet her, and he was becoming anxious as she took her time to come up the few steps that lead to the entrance of his home.

Mirekvaell smiled as Tafv come to her. He kissed her and held her tightly. She placed her hands on his face. He kissed her passionately and pulled her close. Mirekvaell noticed that the servants were all smiling and speaking among themselves. She became a little nerved by them and motioned for Tafv to walk her into the palace. He did without hesitation.

Tafv was glad that Mirekvaell was back with him. He became like a child at the time of d'sora, a coming of age ceremony held for Romulan children at the age of five. Tafv knew that he should compose himself but Mirekvaell was more beautiful than he remembered. He missed her greatly and wanted to bond with her. He wanted to keep her with him, although, he would do whatever she asked.

Mirekvaell walked with Tafv until they reached a room he had prepared for her occasion. He watched her let the servants help her sit. He was amazed that she let anyone aid her in anything that she did. He remembered that she was gentle and could be when she wanted to be, so he tried not to let it surprise him. He knew that she wanted to be with him. Why else would she be there? To kill time? No, that wasn't Romulan like. She would not come if she were not interested.

Mirekvaell looked up to see Tafv's dark eyes greet hers. She smiled.

Tafv: "I'm glad you are back. T'lim her'u ehl'au." (It's lonely without you.)

Mirekvaell smiled before she spoke. She knew what she wanted to say to him but wasn't sure how to say it. She didn't want Tafv to feel as though he had no choice but to bond with her, but she wanted to be sure that he knew what she meant.

Mirekvaell: "Tafv..."

Tafv: "Mirekvaell, how was your assignment?"

Mirekvaell: "It was the same as my others. Successful."

Tafv: "Were you comfortable?"

Mirekvaell started wondering why Tafv wouldn't let her speak freely. Why would she be comfortable on an assignment where she had to kill someone? What kind of a question was that? He must know that she wanted to ask him something. She answered his question.

Mirekvaell: "I was not uncomfortable, but I would not use comfort to describe my stay."

Tafv: "You mean your departure."

Mirekvaell knew that he meant her departure from him. She smiled and nodded. Tafv was happy. It showed in his eyes. He knew that Mirekvaell wanted to ask him something, and he could feel that it was important. He just wanted to wait until the moment was right.

Tafv: "Are you comfortable now?"

Mirekvaell: "Ie. I am."

Tafv: "Of course you are."

Tafv looked away as he noticed what he had said. He was tapping into Mirekvaell's mind, but minimally so that she wouldn't pick up on him. After he said that, she knew what he was doing. Mirekvaell began to wonder if he sensed what she was going to ask him. She didn't have much time to worry about it when the servants came to them with plates of intricately designed food. Mirekvaell had become used to replicators and almost wasn't sure it she should eat the food or save it as a decorative ornament.

Tafv watched Mirekvaell to see if she would eat. He wouldn't start without her, and Mirekvaell sensed that and decided to sit back and look at Tafv. Tafv wanted to say something, but he couldn't tell her that he couldn't begin eating until she did. He decided to have a toast in her honor. Mirekvaell lifted her glass after Tafv did.

Tafv: "Ru khre'Arrain Mirekvaell. Thlhom, e'lev."

Mirekvaell knew what Tafv meant. She wondered if he would continue his speech. It was sensual to hear him speak Romulan. She watched his lips move as he spoke, and she smiled.

Tafv: "Payr au patned pra krsh urru." (May you never leave.)

Mirekvaell smiled and raised the glass to her lips as did Tafv. Tafv couldn't wait for them to finish the feast. He stood up and walked over to Mirekvaell who still had the glass of Romulan ale at her lips. Tafv watched her and wanted to touch her. He wanted more than to touch her but he couldn't do that yet; he had unfinished business with her.

Mirekvaell saw Tafv come to her and kneel down before her.

Tafv: "Guided by earth, air, fire and water, I will do all that I can to keep you satisfied. If you would honor me by bonding with me."

Tafv knew that Mirekvaell was of the fire element and thought that they would compliment each other, as he belonged to the element of water. Not to mention that he was madly in love with her.

Mirekvaell didn't know what to say. She had only planned her speech the other way around, with her asking him. She smiled and took Tafv in her arms. He held her tightly.

Mirekvaell: "Ie, e'lev. Hnalo thlo khe'au." (Yes, my love. I need you -more- too.)

Tafv was elated that Mirekvaell accepted his proposal. He would not let her down and she would make certain of that, although she never doubted that he wouldn’t.

Mirekvaell followed Tafv to a room that was prepared for the both of them. Tafv trusted his staff to make sure that everything was in place. Tafv chose a room different from the one that he usually sleeps in because this room was to become both of their room. Mirekvaell could sense that Tafv was tense yet excited over her being there and her acceptation of his lifetime offer. How could she refuse? He was the Praetor.

Later that evening after Mirekvaell showed Tafv how much she accepted his proposal, there was a loud sound that resembled a large chime of some sort, outside of the Praetor's palace. Tafv, with his guards ran to the window to see what it was. It was Sindari. She stood outside Tafv's home, dressed in nearly nothing and held a sword. She stood waiting for anyone to confront her. Her face was distressed and bleak, and her skin was pale due to her previous self-inflicted case of malnutrition. Mirekvaell awoke to the absence of Tafv at her side. She walked to the front of the palace to see Tafv speaking to his guards and officers. Tafv turned and saw her.

Tafv: "Mirekvaell, you should rest. I will come to you shortly."

Mirekvaell could tell that something wasn't right. She couldn't tell much from the sound of Tafv's voice, but it was obvious with his officers standing there.

Mirekvaell: "What's going on?"

Tafv didn't want to lie to her; he couldn't. He knew that she would demand to know the truth and would find out on her own if she was eager enough; and she was.

Tafv: "The matter will be taken care of. E'lev, everything is under control."

Mirekvaell looked out the window before Tafv could stop her. She saw Sindari standing ready with her sword. Mirekvaell figured she was the woman rumored to live in the Praetor's home under his rule. She turned to Tafv and spoke.

Mirekvaell: "What is going on?"

Tafv raised his hand to his officers so that they would leave.

Tafv: "Mirekvaell. The woman you see outside is Sindari. She was promised to me by a wealthy family here on ch'Rihan. I did not accept nor refuse her, I only allowed her to stay on my property."

Mirekvaell: "How long was she here."

Mirekvaell was becoming angry but hid it well.

Tafv: "She was here for nearly two years, but we were never intimate. She rather behaved like a higher degreed servant to me. She and I had our own separate living rooms on each side of my home. Nothing was promised to her."

Mirekvaell: "What are her intentions now?"

Tafv: "She wants to fight."

Mirekvaell: "Has she chosen an opponent?"

Tafv: "Ie."

Tafv hoped that Mirekvaell wouldn't ask who Sindari has demanded, and that he could have SIndari quietly removed from his property and entered into a home. But Tafv wouldn't get his wish.

Mirekvaell: "Who has she asked for?"

Tafv didn't say anything right away. He knew that Mirekvaell would do anything for him, but he just got her back safe from the wrath of the last assignment he sent her on. He watched her eyes become angry though her voice remained sweet.

Mirekvaell: "Who?"

Tafv: "She has requested the one I have chosen as my bond-mate."

Mirekvaell looked at Sindari outside, then back at Tafv.

Mirekvaell: "That would be me."

Mirekvaell grabbed her kaleh and made her way towards the entrance. Tafv stood in her way and placed his hands on her shoulders. Mirekvaell loved him, but as far as she was concerned he was standing in her way of a duty that she had to accomplish.

Mirekvaell: "Fvah afw'ein au khoi thlom?" (What reason do you stop me?)

Tafv: "Mirekvaell..."

Mirekvaell: "T'lim thlhom talla ru deletham." (It's my duty to defend.)

Tafv: "You are my bond-mate, not my officer."

Mirekvaell: "If I am your bond-mate. I am both."

Tafv knew that she was right and he stood aside. Mirekvaell would have her way and he knew it. He had faith in her, and knew that she would come out victorius.

Mirekvaell watched Sindari pull her sword as she placed her clothes back on. Tafv stood in the doorway as he watched Mirekvaell. She knew that he was behind her but she paid no attention. Sindari yelled curses at Tafv's palace and Mirekvaell was only thinking of battle she would soon engage in. She grabbed her sword and turned around to see Tafv staring at her. He knew that Mirekvaell would have her way so he stood aside and let her pass. She nodded at him.

Mirekvaell walked calmly through the halls of the palace. She placed her hand on her sword as she came to the entrance and saw Sindari. Sindari stopped speaking when she saw Mirekvaell. She stood still as Mirekvaell came near.

Mirekvaell: “Take your weapon Sindari and fight me.”

Sindari fell to the ground and stayed there. Mirekvaell left her there to rot and the next morning Sindari was nowhere to be found. In fact she was never seen on Romulus again.
