Prophecies of the Bajorans

Members of the Vedek Assembly have studied the prophecies of Bajor, inspired by contact with the Prophets of the Celestial Temple through the orbs, for over a millenia. Many of these prophecies have been revealed to the crew of Deep Space Nine over the years. They don't always come true, and many of them can be contradictory, but they always influence the outcome of events at the most important outpost in the Alpha Quadrant.

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine - 'Emissary'

"One who does not wish to be among us is to be the Emissary."

- Kai Opaka to Commander Benjamin Sisko

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine - 'Battle Lines'

"I'll be staying here, Commander...This is the answer to all the prophecies of my life. You must tell our people, Kira, that I have answered the call of the Prophets. I was brought here because it is time for these people to begin their healing process -- just as you were brought here to begin yours...My work is here now, Commander But your pagh and mine will cross again."

- Kai Opaka

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine - 'Sanctuary'

"We had heard about a great tunnel being discovered. We knew it must be the Eye of the Universe that would lead us to Kentanna...a planet of sorrow where the Skrreea will sow seeds of joy."

- Haneek

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine - 'Destiny'

"I am here with a warning from the Prophets. They don't want you to let the Cardassians come aboard this station. If you do, you will bring destruction on us all....'When the river wakes, stirred once more to Janir's side, three vipers will return to their nest in the sky...When the vipers try to peer through the temple gates, a sword of stars will appear in the heavens. The temple will burn, and the gates will be cast open.'"

- Vedek Yarka, and Trakor's Third Prophecy

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine - 'Accession'

"Bajor suffered a great wound while I was with the Prophets: the Cardassian Occupation. The Bajor that I have returned to has lost its way. People no longer follow the path the Prophets laid out for them. They no longer follow their d'jarras. Artists have become soldiers, priests have become merchants, farmers have become politicians. We must heal the wounds of the Occupation. We must return to our d'jarras."

- Poet Akorem Laan

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine - 'Rapture'

"I was just thinking about Zocal's third prophecy. It said only someone who had been touched by the Prophets could find the ruins of B'hala."

- Major Kira Nerys

"Cardassia...That's where it was going. The cloud...I was on Bajor. B'hala had been rebuilt. The people were in the streets, celebrating. But then, a shadow covered the sun. We looked up and saw a cloud filling the sky. It was a swarm of locusts. Billions of them. They hovered above the city. The noise was deafening. But just as quickly as they came, they moved on. Now I know where they were going. Cardassia.....The locusts...They'll destroy Bajor unless it stands alone!...It's too soon. Bajor must not join the Federation. If it does, it will be destroyed."

- Captain Benjamin Sisko

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine - 'Rocks and Schoals'

"The Dominion is evil. And the Prophets tell us that evil must be opposed."

- Vedek Yassim

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine - 'Far Beyond the Stars'

"Oh, that my words were now written! Oh, that they were printed in a book! Write those words, Brother Benny...Go now and write the truth that's in your heart. The truth that shall set them free! Praise be the word of the Lord. Praise to the word of the Prophets....Write the words, Brother Benny. The words that will lead us out of the darkness, onto the path of righteousness...This is only the beginning of your journey, not the ending. And the path of the Prophets sometimes leads into darkness and pain....I speak with the voice of the Prophets. And in their words, hope and despair walk arm in arm....You have walked in the path of the Prophets. There is no greater glory....You are the dreamer. And the dream."

- The Street Preacher to Benny Russell

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine 'The Reckoning'

"If the Evil One is destroyed, it will bring a thousand years of peace...You don't think the Evil One will be victorious, do you? Rest assured, the Golden Age is upon us. The Prophets and the people will be as one. Think of it. There will be no need for Vedeks or Kais, or even Emissaries."

- Kia Winn and the Reckoning of Shabren's Fifth Prophecy

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine 'Penumbra'

"You must accept your destiny...Your path is a difficult one. She cannot share it with you...She cannot walk the same path...You must walk the path alone...There are still many tasks ahead of you. Accept your fate. Your greatest trial is about to begin. Don't be afraid. All will be as it should be...Stay on the path, Benjamin."

- Prophet Sarah Sisko to Captain Benjamin Sisko

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine - 'What You Leave Behind'

"It's difficult to explain. It's not linear...My life, my destiny. The Prophets saved me, Kasidy. I'm their Emissary, and they still have a great deal for me to do. But first, there is much to learn, things only the Prophets can teach me."

"When will you be back?"

"It's hard to say. Maybe a year. Maybe yesterday. But I will be back."

"And I will be waiting."

- Benjamin Sisko & Kasidy Yates, in the Celestial Temple

ST: Deep Space Nine - Avatar, Book One by S.D. Perry

"...battles fall and fail, and there is a time of waiting, the space between breaths as the land heals and its children retire from war. The Temple welcomes many home, the faithful and the Chosen.

"A Herald, unforgotten but lost to time, a Seer of Visions to whom the Teacher Prophets sing, will return from the Temple at the end of this time to attend the birth of Hope, the Infant Avatar. The welcomed Herald shares a new understanding of the Temple with all the land's children. Conceived by lights of war, the alien Avatar opens its eyes upon a waxing tide of awareness.

"The journey to the land hides, but is difficult; prophecies are revealed and hidden. The first child, a son, enters the Temple alone. With the Herald, he returns, and soon after, the Avatar is born. A new breath is drawn and the land rejoices in change and clarity....."

- the unnamed book of prophecy written by Ohalu

"...with the Herald attendant. A New Age for Bajor will begin with the birth of the alien Avatar, an age of Awareness and Understanding beyond what the land's children have ever known. The child Avatar will be the second of the Emissary, he to whom the Teacher Prophets sing, and will be born to a gracious and loving world, a world ready to Unite. Before the birth, ten thousand of the land's children will die for the child's sake. It is destined, but should not be looked upon with despair; most choose to die, and are welcomed into the Temple of the Teacher Prophets.

"Without the sacrifice of the willing, the Avatar will not be born into a land of peace. Perhaps the Avatar will not be born at all; it is unclear. That ten thousand is the number, it is destined. Ten thousand must die."

- the unnamed book of prophecy written by Ohalu
