Our History

As Coordinator of the Italian Exchange Program for Baltimore County Schools, I traveled with students in Italy at least a dozen times and was able to nourish my passion for the classics and Italian cuisine.

Upon retiring from education, I naturally turned to those arts as I searched for a new career.  I became a chef at Troia's at The Walters Art Gallery in Baltimore, but I missed teaching. Finally, I decided to combine all my skills and inaugurated Avanti Tours!

My wife, Mary, and I conducted our first tour for a small group in 1999.  Our friends experienced so many sides to one of the greatest cultures in the world, Italy, on a tour that stretched from Capri to Venice, that they eagerly signed on for Avanti Tours first professional tour the following year.

That second tour, Autumn Adventure in Italy 2000, thrilled forty-two travelers and earned great reviews. Follow this link to learn more.

The sad events of 2001 touched so many lives and necessitated cancellation of two Avanti Tours.

In 2002, we witnessed the rinascimento (rebirth) of the American spirit as thirty-two adventurers went in search of Tuscany, the Road Less Traveled.  Follow this link to learn more.

Our fourth season of guided tours in 2003  led to France in the spring, Tuscany in the summer and Italy in the fall.  Follow this link to see the kinds of adventures Avanti Tours has planned for you next.
