Is There Anything I Can Do?

Why is it in times of need
we go to people, we offer help
& quietly plead, "if there's anything
I can do please don't hesitate to call"

Because isn't it the thought that counts?

But as soon as we receive the call,
no matter how big or small
we're too busy, we didn't mean the offer "what gall!"
Didn't they know it was the thought that counted?
...a helpless man on the street
...a homeless woman with nothing to eat
go to your warm & cozy home
but don't dare offer them to come...
Because, after all, it's the thought that counts!

When you say a prayer
say one for them
that they find shelter to sleep and food to eat...
and your job is done, finished, the end,
because it's the thought that counts

I laid down to sleep one quiet night
said my prayers turned out the light
Thinking maybe tomorrow I'd make things right
Only tomorrow never came.

I came face to face with my Maker,
I said "God I thought there was so much more.."
he showed me to an unopened door. I went though
full of fear, afraid of what I'd see there
I saw my thoughts each and every one...
Oh darn, I meant to help my son...
Oh yeah, I told her I'd call, I never did - I had to stall...

I began seeing things I never saw, and realized
It's not the thought that counts at all.
It's what you do that counts!

Words are words until you follow through
You'll never know whose life you'll touch until you do.
Thankfully I woke up from my dream, I got another
chance it would seem to make my thoughts count!

I thought I'd call you and say hello, I love you, I miss you.
Is there anything I can do for you? Really, I mean it!

Because it's more than the thought that counts!
