Once apon a midnight sky
A soldier beside a pond did lie.
Thinking, questioning, asking why,
Why he chose this path in life.

Beside this pond he pondered and thought...
And then he thought no more,
Questioning the water,
Why he left the ones he adored.

A duty, a job, a service to nation,
To protect and to serve,
Love and duty were the dilemmas facing.

The pond stay motionless,
Not a ripple in time,
The water smooth and calm...
As confused as the mind.

Staring deep into the pond
He saw his reflection,
A single tear ran down
Cracking his face, section by section.

The water broke and shattered,
Like my heart to hers.
This pond is his mind,
His body, his soul,
Falling freely through time.

Mind to pond, pond to water,
water through time.
