When the Wars of Beleriand came to an end and Morgoth was thrown back into the void at the end of the first age, Elrond Half-Elven founded a haven known as Rivendell. It began as a place for elves weary of war but not willing to leave Middle-Earth. It became known as a place of great wisdom, and was soon called the Last Homely House.
