CORNERSTONE 2002!
So I wrote this journal when i went to Cornerstone in 2002. Keep in mind I was only 15 and it was the first time I went.Click here to see a bunch of low quality pictures from Cstone!!!
Tuesday July 2 - - 5:30 PM
Wednesday July 3 - - 11:35 AM
Thursday July 4 - - 10:15 AM
Friday July 5 - - 11:50 AM
Saturday July 6 - - 10:35 AM
SUnday July 7 - - 11:10 AM
Hello hello, this is stephie from cornerstone land where it is very very hot.
It's really fun, but tiresome. It's super fun to stay up late, but it's super
stupid cos then you're burned out. We just saw Sidewalk Slam and i was dying
in the mosh pit after like 2 songs cos i only got about 4 hours of sleep
(literally). But last night me and Jess were wandering amlessly and we met some
nice people. Cornerstone is full of nice people, i love it. Today right after
Sidewalk Slam i saw this dude named Doug that i had met from Sonshine and
LIFE 2001 last year and it was rad cos he remembered me. Friends are great.
And we met this dude named Ben who is so nice and we see him all the time. And
we're kinda camping at CAMP FRENZY which is where a bunch of message boarders from
the FIF board are camping. I used to go on the board a super long time ago and post and post
and post, but i kinda died so i was nervous about camping there cos i didn't think anyone would remember me...but it's so rad!!
We got there and this girl Rudie (sweet name too) talked to us and she remembered me and i
felt soooo special, so apparently i am some sort of legend...way way rad, and the funny
thing is i was only like 12 when i went on my mad posting 'frenzy'. and i met Skanadian
who took me to the message board prom awhile back and he was really cute and it was
neat. I met a couple boarders that i knew faintly too like Wireless Mike and some girl and melosh
and others that escape me at this moment. It's a cool bunch of kids. We saw Nate and
Krotzer and Joe and Cary and Gary for a bit and thier campsite is kinda by the RV so thats
kinda cool. We haven't found Josiah and Milner yet, but i dunno if they're even here. Those guys are really cool, but i don't
think they even know me at all besides recognize me as "Jessica's friend" or something.
yes yes, well anyway babbel babbel ababbel
SO Today was Tooth and Nail day, but we haven't seen a lot of bands yet. We are tired so
we're sitting in the RV which is air conditioned for awhile. We're going to take off to
see the HUntingtons in a bit. I'm kinda sad that we missed All Wound Up, but it was so
hot and i needed to change my shirt n stuff. OOO!! JOHN FROM ACE GAVE ME A FREE SHIRT COS
I MADE THAT ACE FANSITE!!! Dude they rock so stinkin hard. I'm wearing my rad shirt now.
Now i have an extra $15 to get another ace tee...hehehe good times. SO far i have gotton
my ace tee, a huntingtons one, an element 101 one, and a cornerstone festival one. Oh
and a bunch of buttons too. It's neat i like it. Huntingtons are in a few so i gotta
hurry. We're all oging to freak out tonight, we have 8 bands in a row!! Maybe not, but
we'll see how things go. Right now the plan is Calibretto 13 at 6:30, Elemetn 101 at 7:15,
Bleach at 8:00, Ace Troubleshooter at 8:45, Two Thirty Eight or Norma Jean (haven't decided
yet) around 9:15 or so, Hangnail at 10:00, Squad 5-0 at 10:45, and Ghoti Hook at 11:30.
It's gonna be fun, but tiring...i think we shall sleep in the nice air conditioned RV
tonight cos we are all going to be dead...
Until Later,
Stephanie Stephanie Stephanie....Stephanie
HeLlO aGaIn. Dude Ghoti cancelled last night, i was so sad!! They're still playing Saturday
(their last show ever :(!!) so that is good. Squad played all 80's "favorites" last night, i
didn't know barely any of the songs except like the chorus's cos they're all in like car
commercials and such. It's all good. Element 101 has a good live show! HOnestly i was
really suprized cos on the CD she sounds like she would be mild and such, and she was just completely
rockin out. Really awesome. Ace's show was really good! I got so exhausted afterwards. They
played several of their new songs and some of their old ones too. Lots of people were there
which was awesome. Ace is from my homestate so it's really rad when people from
other states like them and freak out at their shows. It was good times. I can't wait until
Thursday. Today we're gonna go see Propagation (our friend's hard/rap-coreish band), and
hopefully catch some of the Huntingtons cos they're awesome but playing the same time as Prop.
so that is too bad. Tonight Project 86 is playing at 10:15 so i'm psyched about that. Temper
Tantrums is playing Impromptu at like 10:30 or something but i don't care cos i'll see them
at Sonshine and i won't see Project at SOnshine. We stopped by the Propa-tent awhile back and
they were burning things and they blew up a lighter in the fire. Yeah now it is lunchtime...more later!!

- 5:50 PM
I am bored so i type more. It's almost dinnertime. It's so nice to have an Air Conditioned
RV here at Cstone. Next year or years after when we don't have it we're gonna die, seriously.
I dunno what we're gonna do next year, i hope my parents let me come again if we all just
pile up in Jess's car or something and go down here. Anyway that's not too important. We saw
Sleeping at Last and Starflyer 59, pretty emo...i dunno emo is okay but a tad boring live. I
like fun beats and such. I dunno, time to eat now, then time for element 101!
~Stephajawea~
Last night i saw most of project but it kinda sucked cos of the Temeper Tantrums conflict and all
my friends wanted to see them and i got really pissed off. Major suckust thing about festivals:
band conflicts...i hate them so so much. They're forcing you to choose between bands...no!! SUCK. But so far cornerstone has been really good about that, that was really the only conflict and it was an impromptu band so they couldn't help it. Cornerstone knows how to schedule their bands unlike a certain festival in my state...
Anyway Project was cool to watch, but i only moshed to 2 songs...but hitting people to get up to
the front was fun! O i forgot before Temper/Project we saw Thousnad Foot Krutch at HM. I was
kinda suprised that at HM they were even more strict about restricting crowd surfing and such then they
were at other stages. It's kinda sad cos HM=Hard Music...hmmm...TFK was pretty good though. They played When in Doubt and i love that song a lot. AFter that me
and jess saw some of Temper and some of Project and then we came back to the RV to get a bit of food
and we were gonna go see Living Sacrifice, but it kinda didn't work too well cos i really don't think
Jess wanted to see them and we were both tired and today (thursday) is going to be the best day so
we had to get sleep. So we stayed for about 2 songs...maybe 3 and left. Sad Times. It's not cool cos
i love hardcore a lot and mosh pits rock and are really fun, but i'm not a gal who can sit and thrash
around for hours and hours until i bleed without getting tired. I can mosh for about a song or 2 and
then it's time to stop for awhile, and maybe mosh for a good song later and a song or 2 at the end or
something. It really depends. But dude those guys at living sac. last night were flailing their arms
and hitting and punching each other until they literally bleed. I don't like that, that's kinda sick...
ANYWAY i really don't know what is going on concerning shows this morning cos Jess and Mimi want to go to
a devotional at Decapolis and Propagation is playing Impromptu at the same time. I want to see Prop, but
i might be stuck by myself because something tells me stina might want to go with jess and mimi as well...i
dunno i would like to see Prop cos i think they will be using better equiptment than yesterday, and they're
our boys!! Come on...poo i dunno i think i need to call my Dad and Mom still. They wanted me to call home
but there hasn't really been a good time and i haven't yet. I might call today after we take our daily
trip to the merch tents. Heh heh. So far i've gotton like 8-9 shirts, and i think i still have about $100
or so left to spend.
OKAY so bands that are playing today: We're gonna see Calibretto at 3:00, Ace at 4:10, then come back here
for dinner and rest and probebly a change of shirts etc. Then relient k is at 7:40, five iron at 8:55,
and MxPx at 10:15. Me and mimi really want to mosh at Zao at midnight but we're going to be so tired. Mosh
for one song just so we can say we did...we have to. Well i gotta put myself together, today is a rad rad
day! YAY WE GET TO SEE RELIENT K AND SCOTT!! It seems like forever since i saw them...like since last
November...wow...Scott is the sound guy and he's super super cool. He wore the sock puppet costume and it was
soooo hot, dude he's my hero. Okay gotta go now, goodbye..farewell..so long..lala..
today is gonna rock!!
-steffa weffa geffa teffa reffa yeffa peffa beffa jeffa heffa(haha) neffa steffa-
- 12:40 AM
Wow i am so tired tired tired. All the bands that i saw today rocked. Propagation's impromptu time got switched but that was okay cos Part Time played and they were good. That's our neighbors band, and they're really cool. MxPx was really great cos i've never
seen them before and they completely rocked. I heard that they weren't so great live but now i know that
whoever told me that was on crack cos they were awesome. Relient K played and Dermike their plastic
buffalo crowd surfed, so that was neat. Five Iron was cool and Reese opened up wearing a Elvis costume
with the front stuffed. Funny funny. O and when Ace played earlier, they did a really good job. They played
Punk Rock Chicks off of Don't Stop a Rockin, and i freaked out and i think people thought i was freeken crazy.
I am literally falling asleep as i type...sorry if i'm noy makingmuch sense...i need to shower and sleep!!!!!!
Good nighht now!
~Putter Mayhem~
Yo yo. My neck is sore. It's hard to believe that counting today there's only 2 more days of cornerstone left! That's insane. I really had fun at those shows last night. It was so cute when Theissen hopped
up on top of Dermike at the beginning. They played the first sentence of Pirates who don't do anything and i got
sad cos i got myself and the people around me psyched up cos that is such a cool song and i thought they were
going to play the whole thing. Relient K has some cute shirts, but it makes me mad cos they're $18. Poopy Gotee Records...just cos they overprice their shirts. The rk guys are still way rad though. But dude Sidewalk Slam sells their shirts for $10 a piece...that is
so cheap it makes me love them and tooth and nail a lot.
hmmmmm um...i talked to Lauren which was neat. She's from Louisiana and has been
on my ace board and stuff. I talked to Scott for a bit which was cool. I hope him and rk are still here now,
i dunno if they are. Well see on our daily trip to the merch tents, but mimi and her mom went somewhere and
aren't back yet so we are waiting for her. Anyway Ace played very welland they played Punk Rock Chicks which
was the neatest thing ever and i went insane and i think freaked out the people around me (as i do every show). Jess just pointed out that i just repeated myself as she reads over my shoulder...well poo! oh, and Did i mention ace played punk rock chicks and that i freaked out!?
We had Raman noodles for dinner and i've never had them before so that was neat. Then showtime (ahhahah).. Rk played, then Five Iron.
FIF was fun cos it seemed like i hadn't seen them for awhile and it was cool. i really liked how the security
would spray you with hoses and sqirtguns, it felt very very nice. MxPx was really awesome. Probably cos i've
been listening to their cds for awhile and have been dying to go to one of their shows and it was rockin that
i finally did. Cos every time they come to Minnesota they play The Quest, and my parents freak out about Quest
cos "it's a bar" but it's really not...it's a nightclub that serves alcohol, but i wouldn't drink and the shows
i would go to would have to be all ages shows anyway! Suck. But they played almost all songs i know and i had
a lot of fun. We were gonna go to Zao but we were tired and really really really sweaty so we decided against
it. Mimi went for a song or 2. Then we slept. Then we woke up. Now we're here. Maybe i should state when i say "we" i am referring to
me, Jessica, Stina, and Mimi...no i am not intentionally writing my cornerstone journal in the literary form
"Anthem" was written in, although it would be funny if i did...hopefully some of you get that...propably won't cos i'm a nerd..ack..
Anyway, those
are the girls i'm with here at Cstone, and Mimi's parents are here cos they took us in their RV. So if you were
confused before, now you're not. Lemmie see what are we going to do today...the only band we HAVE to see is
Squad 5-0, and we wanna see DiveBomber, but i think we're gonna check out Officer Negatie, Propagation cos i think they
finally grabbed an impromptu spot, Hangnail, maybe Tourniquet, Headnoise, twothirtyeight, and i think my
friends are going to drag me to see Joy Electric...nooooo...i wish i could sit and just laugh at them cos
that might be fun but i would get smacked...very hard...yuck yuck. I think i'm gonna go now...we might
just leave for merch soon even though mimi isn't back yet. Poo, byebye.
LaTeR gAtOr,

- 2:05 PM
Yoyoyoyoyoyoyoyo Mimi got back like 2 seconds after i shut the computer off. Hahahahahahha. We went
"merching" and me and jess got the same MxPx hoodie...that brings the number of same shirts we
have to like a hundred or somthing. I was like "nooo get the other hoodie" (picture me saying that in
a whiney voice) at first, but then all my friends started chewing me out and yelling at me so i shut
up. It's okay though cos it's a really nice hoodie, i just tried mine on and it's so soft n purdy.
It turns out we missed Propagation. We ran into Cory and he said they played improptu at 11:00 this
morning. Poopy bums. That's too bad, sorry boys! Yeah after we all went to the merch tent
i came back here to the RV while my friends went to see Joy Electric. Yay! I don't like Joy
Electric...Techno Pop stuff...yick. So i'm here n kinda bored. let's babbel...Cornerstone is fun. I
like it a lot. I hope i can come next year, i think i'll die if i don't. I wonder how i'll survive
without air conditioning. I will cos everyone else does, but it's been so nice. Epecilly after the
shows in the afternoon when you get really sweaty your shirt taht you change into isn't warm, and it's
nice. And your stuff doesn't melt. Like last year at Sonshine, Jessica's deodorant melted and it
was gross. and when i had my shampoo in the tent overnihgt it got really liquidy. Yeah We'll bring air matresses and a big ol tarp to sit under.
Screen tent maybe, i think Jess has one. I'll figure that out when it's closer than a year away. Our
neighbors are really nice. they have a cool band that we saw yesterday and bought their cd's. One
guy kinda looks like Mike Herrara. Speaking of Mike n MxPx, walking back from the main stage from the
show last night was fun. Everyone was hyper and funny. I kinda made the comment "Hey we should start
a mosh pit right here" and some guys were like yeah so we did for a minute, and it kinda died. Then me
and some guys tried so get everyone singing PUNK RAWK SHOW (their idea) but it didn't work out too well.
It was good times. I think it's kinda weird how they never check bracelets. Like at Sonshine, the camp
sites are pretty much seperated from the stages and stuff so there are specific entrences you have to
go through and the first day the check your hand but then by the end they just kinda glace at you to
see if you're wearing a wristband. They don't do that here, it's cool. And all the stages here are
spread out. It takes us about 20 minutes if not more to walk to the mainstage. All the stages at
Sonshine are right next to each other. The Mainstage is kinda more seperated, but not by a miles.
LIke it would take about 5 minutes to walk from the HM stage to the Mainstage, at Sonshine. It takes
about 15 to walk from the Encore stages to Mainstage, depending on the route you take. When i first
got here i was really confused, now not so much, although i still don't really remember where the
"underground" stage is. I knew but forgot. It's not really undreground though, and the Indoor stage
isn't really indoors...its weird. But Underground means underground bands, so that makes more sence,
but i still don't get the indoor thing. MEH I'm gonna play Solitare without jess looking over my shoulder
telling me how to play (haha and i won too without using her "advice":) ), then i'm gonna go see
Divebomber. byebye!
Until we meet again,
Stephie Weffie
Hey hey. Last night me and jess saw twothirtyeight, and Squad 5-0. Twothirtyeight was like emo/indie rock,
suprisingly i really liked them. Then we wandered and visited the guys and stuff and went to Squad at
midnight. It was really cool cos they played Bombs over Broadway and before they said they wouldn't play
that song anymore cos of 9-11. They wrote it before though about how New York was so prideful they
needed a wake up call. Jess told me this, and she told me they had explained the song and that
meaning before September 11. It's almost prophetic when you think about it and when you hear the entire
explanation that i'm not intellegent enough to deliver, it really seems prophetic. Anyway, they played
a really good show. I wish i knew more of their songs. I got so scared cos he climbed up onto the
thingy on top (i want to call it a landing but that's not right is it?), the thing that the lights
hang off of and such, and fell into the crowd. Before he jumped he was like "I need a lot of hands,
girls you might want to get out of there i weigh 150 pounds, and I have a wife and 2 kids so don't let
me fall." I hope his wife wasn't there for her sake, if i was her i would have been freaking out. It
was cool though. And then right before the show was done they threw a bunch of pillow feathers out
into the crowd of sweaty people. It was funny. So that was Squad. O and yesterday afternoonish we saw
Divebomber and Hangnail and Officer Negative. Divebomber was okay, just cos Conrad is so funny. I liked
Hangnail, but nothing overly special, their guitarists are amazing so it's fun to watch them play. Officer
Nagative was hardcore/punk and it was pretty cool. Today we're gonna see some bands here n there, but the 2
bands i'm really psyched for is Dogwood and Ghoti Hook tonight. Ghoti's last show ever!! AH! Well thats
about all for now, back to annoying the neighbors who i swear hate me...
+++Steffa+++
We're on our way home right now, and we're all sleeping straight through the ride except for mimi's parents
of course. Yesterday we didn't go to too many shows besides ghoti and dogwood. O and we saw Keith from
Five Iron and the ghoti drummer's weird band and i got freaked out cos they were pretty awful. Well not awful, they were kinda funny but i couldn't stand their style of music so i was trying to figure out if they were just goofing around or actully being serious. Other
than that we hung out with our neighbors from Michigan a lot. They thought we were bad minnasotans cos
we weren't mighty ducks freaks cos it was made in our state sppareantly. IT was stupid. But then this
guy tried to jump over 2 people in lawn chairs, and he did. Next he tried 3, and he did. Then 4, he
did yet again. 5 chairs (which is a lot)...he chickened out the first 2 times. Then his frineds said his
pants were weighing him down so like any sane person he took them off. He gave it a a go in his boxers and
suceeded, but certain items were visible during his jump, which made the whole thing hilarious. And even more,
we got it all on tape...
Anyway, we went and saw Dogwood which was pretty good. I was mad though cos i
really wanted a Dogwood shirt and they only had one style in Extra Large...arg!! No dogwood shirt
for stephie, poo. Ah, Ghoti's show was so
excellent. They dressed in full skeleton costumes with makeup and everything. The drummer was being
goofy saying "hey guess what this is our last show we can do whatever we want. I can pick my nose!" and he
did. Silly. Later on more twords the end some fans were shouting play Spice Drops like insanely and he was like "i know you want
to here that song, but this is the last song i will ever play as a ghoti hook member, GIVE ME SOME PEACE!"
And it was cool. They closed with I love Rock and Roll which was sweet. They played a lot of old stuff
off of Banana Man and Sumo Suprise which was cool. It was so sad when they got together and did their lil
bow. I'm sitting here now and thinking, "dude no more ghoti hook ever," and it's a sad thought. It's all over,
it's the end and so is this journal. Cornerstone made me excited, happy, exhaisted, and gave me the worst sore throat in the world...it was the awesomeist experience ever, i can't wait until next
time...i gotta go!
Until next year,
Stephanie
