IF YOU ARE THINKING OF GETTING A MOUSE OR RAT OR YOU ALREADY HAVE ONE AND WANT TO LEARN MORE THEN THIS PAGE MAY HELP A BIT.

MICE/RAT

Housing: You will need to have a cage that the mouse cannot get out of. A plastic cage is most common as there are no hole that the mice can get out of and it is easily cleaned. Female mice are best as pets because their urine doesn't smell. However females are usually pregnant when purchased so expect a litter shortly unless they were purchased young. Make sure that there is bedding in the cage as mice like to hide. They also need exercise and a wheel is the best object for this. Handling your pet will eventually make it tame if handled correctly but be careful that you don't let your mouse jump out of your hands as they are quick and hard to catch or may injure from the drop.

The pet store has special food available for mice as they need a stable diet. However they eat whole or rolled oats, yellow dandelions, carrot, and partially boiled rice. Please don't feed them cheese as it does them no good. It is only a myth that they like cheese and it is only used is mice traps for the strong scent.

GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR PET!!!!
