Dogs/Puppies PageIf you are thinking of getting a puppy or an adult dog or you already have one, this page might help you out a bit.PUPPIES It is best to get a dog that suits your lifestyle. This means that if you have a small yard and are not planning on walking your dog then it is best to get a small house dog that can come inside and lounge around. This is because a larger dog that needs to have more exercise will get very bored and dig holes in your yard, jump the fence, or get over excited and be hard to train. Small breeds include Foxies, Poodles, Chinese Crested, and numerous others. Larger breeds include Kelpies, Cattle Dogs, German Sheperds etc Puppies need a lot of exercise as well as a balanced diet. Bags of puppy food are suitable and contain most of the vitamins needed to grow strong and healthy, however occasionally giving your dog a bone or a piece of tough meat is good for their teeth and helps to keep them clean. A good age to get a puppy is around the 7-10 week old as they have finished suckling off their mothers and are ready to start training. Puppies have a low attention span so REMEMBER never to yell or hit your puppy for not listening. If the dog is digging in the garden or ripping at something the use an authoritarian voice to show your pup whose boss. Take your time with training your pup but remember to keep the training constant as it will avoid any confusion with the pup. DOGS It is not true that you cant teach an old dog new ticks. A healthy obediant dog always is willing to learn. Practically the same rules apply to dog as they do to puppies. So read through the puppy section to get a fair idea of what to expect. GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR PET!!
