Jake's Injury*WARNING* This page contains some graphic photos of my horse's leg injury. On April 24, 2001, Jake caught his leg in a high tensile electric-wire fence and cut his leg down to the bone and tendon. He was placed on stall rest for two weeks, with the leg wrapped. As you will see in the following pictures, he has progressed quite rapidly.

Day 2
This isn't a very good photo since it doesn't look very bad at all. But in reality, there was bone visible as well as the tendon. The photo was being taken while his leg was being hosed to reduce swelling. |
Two weeks
This was taken at approximately two weeks. The leg was no longer wrapped except during the night and Jake was allowed to be turned outside during the day. The progress that the wound made in two weeks is incredible. It went from visible bone to filled in, with only a large gap between the two sides of the injury. This is probably the most grotesque photo you will see. |
One Month
This was taken around the one month mark. As you can see, most of the gap has filled in. The leg is no longer wrapped and Jake was turned out with the rest of our horses. The wound drained a lot of blood and fluids, but remained infection free. |
