Jake's injury continued

More pictures of Jake's progress...

Two and a half months

This was taken at two and a half months and you can see that the wound is much smaller. Also, you can see the rim of new skin around the edges of the injury. The photo isn't all that clear, but the new skin is visible. The wound still drained occasionally.

Six Months

There was a large gap in our documentation of the injury as we went from two and a half months to six months. As you can see, there is even more new skin and the wound is scabby. Jake began to be ridden lightly after 3 months (august 1), 5 minutes at a walk. At the county fair in the last week of August/ first week of September he'd been ridden for 3 weeks and we still managed to qualify for State!

Look Where We Got!

This last picture is from the Wi State 4H Horse Expo 2001. Jake and I received the Grand Champion in Hunter Under Saddle, grade 12-13 out of 63 horses! This was on a horse that had been off for 3 months and had less than 2 months of riding! It was my dream and it came true! We also received a Top Ten in Huntseat Equitation grade 12-13 out of 55 horses. What a great way to end a horrible summer! :)
