Daichi appears first in Volume 1, Episode 7. In the lunch line, he and Shizuma both grab the last dark pork chow mein bread at the same time. They do Rock, Paper, Scissors for it, and Daichi loses. I'm not quite sure what the point of that encounter with his character is, but after Shizuma's K-Fight with Mr. Saotome, Daichi and Shizuma often spar together in practice.
