Jonathan Woodgate Club

There has been much
talk in articles on this website of getting rid of young Jonathon Woodgate, as
he is "more trouble than he is worth" or "he'll never
learn".
I say we keep him. He is only 22 years of age, not very old for a centre back,
he probably has 10-12 years left in him. He is without a doubt talented, and
many would suggest he has the potential to be better than Rio. I agree.
I also agree that Woodgate is silly sometimes, and that he gets in situations unnecessarily.
However, he is a young man growing up in the public eye, people out on the
street know who he is, they are jealous of his talent, and all that comes with
it. Some have ventured to say that if he hadn't been who he is he wouldn't have
ended up in court and all over the newspapers after that infamous night in
January 2000.
I am in no way condoning his actions, but I am rationlising it, which is
something the British tabloid press seem unable to do. Tony Adams is the example
that Woody should follow. Adams was also like Woodgate a talented young,
impressionable footballer with the
world at his feet when he became an alcoholic, but he came back and went on to
captain his country and be regarded as one of the finest centre backs of the
modern era.
This is why Leeds must keep hold of Woodgate and mould him into the player and
man we know he can become. He has done some stupid things, but who hasn't when
they were young?
