Leeds duo in after World Cup

ENGLAND manager Sven Goran Eriksson has confirmed that Leeds United duo Lee Bowyer and Jonathan Woodgate will be picked for their country, but only after the World Cup finals.

Woodgate is currently serving an international ban, imposed on him by the Football Association, after his conviction for affray.

Bowyer could have been picked for the finals in Japan and Korea, but the Swede feels that the Leeds midfielder has had too many distractions this season to be considered.

Speaking of Bowyer, Eriksson said: "He has had a difficult season for many reasons. I am the first one to understand that.

"He is a very good football player and if he's not going to be picked for the World Cup, then after the World Cup he will be picked.

"Both he and Jonathan Woodgate have had a difficult year or two. We have a lot of good midfielders in this country so the competition is very hard. But at some stage, I am going to pick both of them, very soon after the World Cup."
