Woody targets five from five

UNITED defender Jonathan Woodgate says Leeds need to get maximum
points over the festive period to restore some respectability to
their league position.
Despite last night's 3-0 win over Bolton, Leeds are still in 16th
position and a win over Southampton at Elland Road would only lift
them two more places should Fulham and Aston Villa fail to win.

For Leeds to find themselves so low down is obviously a sore point
for Woodgate, who hopes United can start to repair the damage caused
by their poor start to the season.

"We needed a win big time, we were right down the bottom and it just
puts us in contact with the rest now," said Woody after Monday
night's win.

"It's still a bad position to be in but We have five games over
Christmas and have to take maximum points now.

"It's not the manager's fault, it's the players fault that we're in
this situation. we're all behind the manager and appreciate what he's
done for us.

Danny Mills scored his first goal of the season against Bolton, and
admitted he had an element of good fortune about his successful
strike.

"It fell for me nicely, I took a swing at it and luckily it ended up
in the back of the net which is exactly the kind of luck we need at
the moment."

The win has instilled fresh confidence in the squad ahead of
Saturday's clash with Gordon Strachan's Southampton, a game that
Leeds also desperately need to win.

"We've got three points and that's it, it's only three points and
we've got to build on it.

"We've got Southampton on Saturday and we have to pick up another
three points there and we keep going."
