Woodgate hopes to return

Jonathan Woodgate hopes to make his Leeds United comeback at
Birmingham on Saturday and boost his chance of an England recall.
Sven Goran Eriksson is poised to name Woodgate in his squad on Monday
for the friendly with Portugal at Villa Park on 7 September, after
the central defender's completed two-year ban from international
football.
However, Woodgate needs to prove his fitness and win back his place
in the Leeds team from Lucas Radebe, who has started two of the first
three games.
Knee trouble has restricted Woodgate to an hour's Premiership action
so far this season and ideally he needs a full game before Eriksson
names his squad, which is also expected to include in-form Lee
Bowyer.
Leeds manager Terry Venables has made it clear that England
considerations will have no bearing on his team selection, and with
Radebe slotting smoothly back into the side after missing the whole
of last season through injury, Woodgate can take nothing for granted.
