Hanging By A Moment

Chapter Five

My breath caught in my throat and I sat straight up in my bed. It couldn't be...

"Hello? This is Angela right?"

I quickly snapped out of my state of shock and said in a shaky voice,"Yeah this is Angela...no I didn't think you'd call. Well, I didn't know if you'd call..." I tried to get myself under control but I was finding it difficult.

"I said I would,"Nick said softly. "Sorry I called so late."

The boy could call at 4 in the morning if he wanted to..."No it's ok. I just got home."

"Oh really? That's cool,"he replied and then there was an awkward silence. I realized that we didn't have much to talk about. Talking about how great the sex was is hardly a conversation.

"I called because it was different with you Angela..."he told me. It was late and I was tired but I know I definitely heard him say the words that I felt too.

"You felt it too,"I whispered.

"Yeah I felt it too,"I could hear the smile in his voice. "You were a girl actually worth calling back. I knew you weren't one of those 'fuck and chuck' type of girls."

I smiled,"You were right."

"Look, I really want to see you again before I go to LA to start planning our tour,"Nick said.

"When do you leave?"I asked. I desperately hoped that it was a week from now so I could spend as much time with him as possible...

"Two days."

My heart sunk and I let out a tiny,"Oh."

"I want to see you tomorrow. Are you busy?"he asked.

Well even if I was I would sure as hell make room for him,"No."

"Ok then, do you want to go out with me?"

"Yes!" Ok that was a little too enthusiastic Angela. Way to go, now he's going to think you're a nut.

He gave a small laugh,"Good." Oh his voice was so sexy... "Angela?"

"Yeah?"

"Um, I like you a lot. You're different from any girl that I've met before."

Butterflies formed in my stomach and a slow smile spread across my face. A feeling of contentment filled my body. I just wanted to hold him and not let go,"Thank you Nick. I like you too."

"Ok well it's late. I should go, I guess. Can you meet me at the Plaza at around 12? I'll be expecting you this time,"he said with a little laugh.

"I'll be there,"I promised.

"Oh and Ang?"

"Huh?"

"I thanked AJ today."

"Tell him I said thank you too."

"Will do."

"I'll see you tomorrow."

"Yeah, bye."

"Bye."

I hung up the phone and fell back on my bed, letting out a little scream.

Meredith came running into my room seconds later looking around hysterically,"What's the matter??? Why'd you scream??? No one climbed through the window did they?? I've heard stories about that." She walked briskly around the room looking in closets and out the window. She turned around and looked at me with her arms folded.

I stared at her with what must have been a goofy expression because she looked at me strangely and said,"What's wrong with you? Are you ok?"

"Oh I'm just perfect,"I breathed happily.

She raised an eyebrow,"Are you cracking up Angela? What the hell's a matter with you?"

"Nothing is wrong with me,"I said, grinning.

"Whatever. I'm just gonna let this go as an 'Angela Moment' and go to sleep...hey who called by the way? It wasn't Rob was it? You better not have yelled and hung up on him..."

My grinned widened,"No it wasn't Rob."

She finally caught on and yelled excitedly,"Oh god! What did he say??"

"He wants to meet me tomorrow!"I replied, in complete and total bliss.

"That's so great Angela,"Meredith told me sincerely. It had been a while since I had ever liked a guy this much. I ended up with a broken heart last time and Meredith knew that this was a big step for me. I knew she was truly happy for me.

"What have I gotten myself into Merrie?"I asked her seriously.

"I guess you're going to find out aren't you?"she replied

I stood in my room the next morning in my powder blue terrycloth bathrobe. My hair was still damp and hanging down my shoulders. The sunlight filtered into my room, casting shadows on the carpet. It was another beautiful fall day in New York. I, on the other hand, was a mess. I was literally ripping clothes out of my closet and throwing them on the bed in frustration.

"Meredith!"I whined, crossing my arms and throwing myself down on a big cream colored armchair.

"What?"she called from the kitchen.

"Come here!"

"What do you want?"

"I have nothing to wear!!"

She came dragging herself into my room a minute later,"What do you mean you have nothing to wear? You have a shit load of clothes. For crissake Ang, what the hell did you do to your closet?"

"I have nothing to wear,"I repeated, sulking in my armchair.

"Oh what a whiner,"Meredith groaned and stood looking into my closet with a hand on her hip. Seconds later she pulled out a pair of bootcut dark denim jeans and a formfitting deep red turtle neck that flattered my figure. "Wear this with your leather jacket and boots and you're set."

"I don't want to wear that. It's not...special enough,"I said, waving away the outfit that she held in front of me.

She gave me one her no nonsense looks and I knew she wasn't in the mood to deal with my complaining this morning. I sighed and said sarcastically,"Yes mom."

"You're making a way too big a deal out of this Angela. He's just a guy. Remember that,"she told me, sitting down on my unmade bed.

"No he's not Mere. He's different. You know how much this date means to me Meredith so just try and be supportive,"I said, rising from the chair.

"I've been supportive. I'm just saying not to blow this out of proportion,"she said logically.

"Ok ok,"I said and glanced in the mirror, frowning at my reflection. "I look sickly."

Meredith giggled,"No you don't."

"Yes I do. How should I wear my hair?"I asked her pulling my damp hair into a ponytail with my hand then releasing it.

"Hmm, down,"she said pausing for a second.

"You sure?"

She stared at my hair for a second,"Nah wear it up with those hoop earing I like."

"Yeah the ones you STOLE from me,"I muttered.

"Borrowed,"Meredith corrected with a smile.

"Oh please,"I said then rolled my eyes. "Then how come I don't have them back?"

"I forgot?"she said with a sheepish shrug.

"Funny, I saw you wearing them just 2 days ago,"I said with a raised eyebrow.

"Ok ok you win,"she said raising her hands in mock defeat.

I smiled smugly,"Don't I always?"

"You keep it up and I'll keep your earings forever,"she threatened.

"Like hell you will...now leave so I can get dressed,"I said, shooing her out of my room.

"I'm going, I'm going,"she said then shut the door behind her.

I walked out of my room in the outfit Meredith had made me wear and my hair was pulled up into a tight ponytail. I had a grey eyeliner lining my deep brown eyes and a pink blush dusting my cheeks. I put on a little lip gloss and grabbed my purse and I was good to go. Meredith had reluctantly given me back my earings which I was happy about.

I took the subway into the city and an hour later I was standing unsurely in front of the exclusive Plaza Hotel on 5th Avenue along with a lot of teenage girls holding signs and CDs. The Plaza was one of most beautiful hotels I think I've ever seen with it's luxurious, posh elegance. I always admired it when I passed by. I don't think I've ever seen it without at least 5 limos waiting at the curb. It was truly exquisite. I suddenly felt out of place in my jeans and turtle neck. What the hell was I doing standing in front of a 5 star hotel getting ready to go on a date with a Backstreet Boy? I felt plain and well...ordinary. Backstreet Boys don't date ordinary girls. They date models and actresses and singers. I was none of the above. I was way out of my league here and was having second thoughts about going in there. I was in the process of turning around when I told myself that I was acting like a child. Meredith was right...again. I was blowing this out of proportion. It was just a date. And it's not like I haven't met the guy before. I've slept with him for crying out loud. Taking and deep breath and collecting myself, I pushed past the groups of girls and entered the hotel which was unsurprisingly loaded down with security guards and more adolescent girls. Ok Angela, have confidence, you can do this...

I sauntered up to one security guy who I remember from last night,"Hi Nick Carter's expecting me."

"Oh really? Have another note?"he smirked smugly, folding his big arms in an intimidating matter.

I narrowed my eyes,"No I don't but he told me to meet him here."

"Well he didn't mention it to me,"he replied with a shrug.

"Well he mentioned it to ME,"I said through clenched teeth.

I suddenly felt someone reach out and grab my arm and pull me behind a the wall into a secluded area. I went to yell in surprise when a hand covered my mouth and spun me around. I was face to face with a smiling Nick who had his finger to his lips, telling me to be quiet. I immediately relaxed.

"Hey,"he said squeezing my hand gently and kissing my lips softly.

I melted into his embrace and my knees amost gave out,"Hey."

"You look beautiful,"he commented shyly.

I blushed and looked down with a small smile,"Thank you." He looked pretty amazing himself in a pair of baggy khakis and a loose black sweater. A hat was perched backwards on his head.

"Ok there's a way to get out through the back of the hotel. A limo's waiting,"he told me, linking his fingers with mine.

I nodded and he began to lead us through an almost empty part of the hotel,"So did your bodyguard know that you were expecting me."

Nick grinned boyishly,"Yeah he knew."

"And you let him play with me like that?"I asked with a smile.

"I told him to play with you like,"he laughed. "You look cute when you're trippin'."

"Aww thanks Nick,"I said with fake sarcasm.

He laughed again then kissed my cheek. We looked at eachother and smiled.
