Chapter 33

"I'll have a Sprite please, bartender," smiled Sam, cozying up to the bar.

"Oh, hey Sam," Lucky said, looking up from his chore of filling the ketchup
bottles. "What's up?"

Lucky was in no mood for conversation but, he figured he'd be polite.

"Not much," Sam replyed, quickly surveying his attitude. "I was hoping maybe
you'd tell me."

Sam had seen Lucky dart into the kitchen when the phone rang, and had heard
bits and pieces of his conversation. The one part that haunted her mind like
a beautiful song: "You went to his room!" Maybe Mrs. Elizabeth
'Lucky-thinks-I'm-so-wonderful' Spencer wasn't the most perfect little wife
afterall,' Sam thought. 'Well, if that's true...then now's my chance.'

"Nuthin's up Sam. I'm fine."

"You don't look fine," Sam smiled sympathetically. "Are you sure I can't do
anything to help?"

"Really Sam, thanks for the offer, but I'm fine," Lucky said, smiling back.
He was beginning to get a bit annoyed by her persistance, but she was only
trying to be considerate. Lucky liked Sam well enough, she just got on his
nerves when she started rambling about something or started being nosey.

Sam, subtley placed her right hand over Lucky's and looked him in the eye.
"Lucky," she began."If there's every ANYTHING you need...even if it's just
somebody to listen to you, remember I'm right down the hall. I owe you - "

"Ok," Lucky said, cutting her off. He pulled his hand out from beneath hers.
"Thanks," he said awkwardly.

Sam suddenly felt someone tap her on the shoulder. She turned around to see a
pair of brown eyes staring back at her.

"Oh, hi Emily!" smiled Sam. 'Did she see that?' Sam thought, silently
berating herself for being so careless.

"Hi Em," smiled Lucky. "What's goin' on?"

"Nothing really. But you know...it's Monday night."

"Oh yeah, you and Nikolas have become my regulars on Monday nights," laughed
Lucky.

"Is that a bad thing?" cracked Emily.

"No, not at all - anytime Em."

"Cool...well, I gotta wait for Nikolas, but um - while I'm waiting...Sam
could I have a moment of your time...outside?"

"Sure Em," said Sam following Emily outside.

Chapter 34

"What's up Em?"smiled Sam, once they were outside. She hoped and prayed that
Emily hadn't seen her flirting with Lucky.

"Have a seat Sam," said Emily, sitting down in one of the metal patio chairs.

Sam did as she was told, sitting down opposite of Emily.

"Sam," Emily began. "I'm not going to even bother asking you if what I think
I saw in there IS what I saw...because I already know the answer."

Emily couldn't believe it. Elizabeth had been right all along.

"Emily I -"

"Sam," Emily said, cutting her off. "Please don't insult either of our
intelligences by denying it ok? You know as well as I do that you were coming
on to Lucky. Now, he may not realize it but, that's not his fault...he's a
guy. Guys take a bit longer to pick up on these things."

"Emily," Sam interjected. "I don't know what it is you think you saw but, I
was NOT coming on to Lucky. I would never - "

"OK -ok!" said Emily, holding up her hand, commanding silence from Sam. "I
can see that the subtle approach is not going to work here, so let me ask you
three little questions and then we'll be done, k?"

"Ok," said Sam. It's not like she had a choice.

"Number 1," Emily began. "You do know that Lucky is married, correct?"

"Yes," said Sam through gritted teeth. Emily was speaking to her as if she
were a child.

Emily nodded her head. "Good. Now, number 2. You know that he's married to my
best friend - correct?"

"Yes - Emily I -"

"Ah-ah-ah," said Emily, wagging a finger in front of Sam's shocked face. "I'm
not finished yet."

Sam shut her mouth.

"Number 3, you know that marriage is a truly sacred thing - correct?"

"Yes."

Emily clasped her hands together. "Well good." Emily began. "I'm so glad we
got that straigtened out." she added sarcastically. " I guess I dont' have
anything to worry about then."

Emily gathered her purse, and got up from the table. "BUT," she said,
stopping. "If you mess with Liz and Lucky - you mess with me...that's one
thing YOU should worry about."

With that, Emily walked back into Kelly's, while Sam just sat staring off
into space..not fully comprehending what just hit her.
