Chapter 35
It was a sunny Wednesday afternoon when Reese Preston, decided
that she'd
broach the subject with Liz. Kyle had told her about their
confrontation that
Monday and Reese had been wondering about what happened ever
since.
"Hey Liz," said Reese, taking a seat next to Liz on the
patio outside of the
dining hall.
"What's up Reese?" asked Liz spooning red jello into
her mouth.
"Not much." Liz could sense that something was on
Reese's mind. "So...did
Kyle tell you about our little run in?" she asked,
awkwardly.
Reese looked up from her sandwich, shocked. She hadn't expected
Liz to bring
it up first. "Yeah...but if you don't wanna talk about it
Liz, it's fine.
Really."
"No," said Liz. "It's ok. I mean Kyle's your
friend so I don't want you to
feel like you're stuck in the middle of all of this."
"You know.." Reese sighed. "I knew something like
this was going to happen.
I told Kyle to leave you alone - that you were married, but did
he listen to
me? Nooooooo."
"Wait - you knew?" asked Liz, sitting forward.
Reese sighed again. "Yeah. I'm sorry Liz. I mean, I tried to
tell you a
couple of times but something always seemed to get in the
way...namely Kyle."
"It's ok," Liz smiled. "You don't have to
apologize. I'm sure this wasn't an
easy situation for you to be in."
"Thanks," Reese smiled. "Um...Liz, do you mind if
I ask you a question..if
I'm totally out of line - just tell me."
"Ok," said Liz in wonderment.
"What happened with Kyle? I mean, he said that when you
left...you looked -
you looked...scared."
Liz shifted in her seat. 'Should I tell her what happened?' Liz
thought. She
liked Reese and trusted her as well, but did she really want to
get into
ancient history.
"Listen you really don't have to te - "
"Reese," Liz said cutting her off. "2 and a half
years ago...I was raped."
"Oh my God," said Reese, not completley understanding
how to react.
"I know,"grinned Liz. "Shocking huh?" she was
trying to bring some levity to
the situtation. "I bet you didn't expect that to come out of
my mouth.
Anyways...sometimes - not often...these feelings just come
rushing back. I
think that's what happened with Kyle."
"Wait - what did he do exactly?"asked Reese, suddenly
very concerned...her
bestfriend wouldn't would he?
"Oh! NO! -nothing Reese. He was fine. It was me - I just
kinda freaked out. I
think I just had some sort of anxiety attack or something. It was
just the
result of me being in a confined space with a man other than
Lucky that I
knew was attracted to me...I'm sorry Reese, I shouldn't be laying
all of this
on you."
"No, no," smiled Reese. "I asked - you told. I'm
glad I know. Thank you for
telling me."
"You're welcome."
Chapter 36
"So, Mrs. Spencer are you ready to go home?" asked
Lucky pulling his wife
into a tight embrace.
"Oh, do you even have to ask?" Liz returned kissing him
fiercely.
Lucky jumped when he felt her hands travel down his backside.
"Wow! My
goodness Mrs. Spencer...you sure are feeling frisky today
aren't you?! May I
remind you that we are outside in broad daylight?"
It was Friday afternoon and Lucky had come to pick her up for the
weekend.
"Oh, so do you want me to stop?" Liz wispered playfully
into Lucky's ear.
Lucky shivered at the sensation of her warm breath against his
ear. "Well - I
didn't say that," Lucky answered. The couple broke up into a
fit of laughter,
steadily holding each other.
Suddenly, Liz felt Lucky's arms tense around her and the laughter
subside.
She turned around in his arms to see what he was looking at. 'Oh
jeez,' she
thought. 'Of all the times for Kyle to be coming back from
class.'
Lucky wordlessly released her from his embrace and started to
stalk quickly
towards Kyle, but before he even got two feet away Liz grabbed
his arm.
"Lucky," she said. "....no."
Lucky continued to walk as if he hadn't heard her. Liz pulled
harder. "Lucky,
please. Not now. Let's just go home okay?" she pleaded.
It had been a long week and she had no desire to see it get even
longer by
having to watch Lucky beat this guy into a pulp. She ran so that
she was now
standing in front of her husband. "LUCKY! Please...he's not
worth it. It's
not going to accomplish anything." she said, staring deep
into his blue eyes.
"It will make me feel a whole lot better," Lucky
replyed flippantly.
Liz gave Lucky that look the she knew very well would make him
melt."I just
want to go home. Please just take me home."
Lucky stopped in his tracks. His eyes softening. "Ok,"
he said.
Liz sighed. "Thank you."
Lucky stooped down to pick up Liz's remaining bags from the
sidewalk and
placed them in the back of the truck. "Let's go."
