Chapter 21
Liz was more than a little frustrated as she marched upstairs
after Lucky.
She had given her thanks to Kyle for the ride home and gotton him
to
leave...finally. Now she was determined to see who the hell this
Sam guy was
and why he couldn't fix his own damn sink. From the loud
clanging noise
coming from the end of the hall she could only assume that the
last room
belonged to the new tenant. She knocked hard against the wood,
half in anger,
half to be heard over the racket.
"Hi," said the woman, opening the door. "May I
help you?"
"Oh," said Liz smileing oddly. "I'm sorry. I guess
I have the wrong room. I'm
looking for Sam," she continued, beginning to turn around
and walk down the
hall.
"You found her," said Sam, smileing back at Liz.
"Do I know - OH! You must be
Liz! Oh my gosh....yeah, Lucky has told me so much about
you!" she said
extending her hand to Liz.
"Well he forgot to mention a few things about you," Liz
muttered unitelligably
under her breath.
Liz plastered a smile as big as Texas on her face and shook hands
with Sam.
Liz's mind was reeling. 'Sam,' she thought. 'Sam-short for
Samantha-Sam...NOT
Sam-I'm a man-Sam...but, Sam-I've got legs that go on
forever-Sam...Sam-look
at my pretty blonde hair-Sam...Sam-I look an awful lot like
Sarah-Sam...Sam-
I'm gonna keep your husband in this room with me until he's old
and gray-Sam!'
"Over my dead body," Liz mumbled incoherently.
"Huh?" asked a bewildered Sam.
"Oh," said Liz laughing and slapping her knee.
"Nothing...I think I'm just a
little jet lagged or something. You know how it is."
"I thought you drove here," said Sam cocking her head
to the side in
confusion.
Liz cleared her throat. "Oh yeah...hmm, my bad. Sorry.
Umm...can I see my
husband now?" She said, brushing past Sam and walking
towards her bathroom.
"Sure," answered Sam, watching Liz as she made her way
towards the back of the
little apartment.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Another 2 hours had past before Lucky and Liz were able to call
it a night.
The sink had been fixed, the restaurant had been closed, and now
the only
thing left to reconcile was the silence between them. Or at least
the
deafening silence that was coming from Liz.
Lucky followed Liz inside their room, taking his shoes off, but
never taking
his eyes off of her. She was stewing, just waiting for the
perfect moment to
erupt and he knew it. He decided he'd better get it out in the
open or it was
going to be a long night, and not for the right reasons.
"Elizabeth?" he said sitting down next to her on the
bed. "Are you mad at me?"
Not that he didn't already know the answer.
"No," she said flattly turning her head away from him.
"Elizabeth?" he said again. 'Uh-oh. It's worse than I
thought,' thought Lucky.
"Yes!" she said turning back towards him.
"Baby. I'm sorry...I know. I acted like a total ass when you
got here. It's
just...this has been the day from Hell, you know? I mean I
realize that
there's no excuse for ignoring you the way I did. It's just that
Kelly's was a
mad house all day, and then Sam's stupid sink -"
There was that stupid name again, thought Liz.
"Sam."
"Yeah...Sam's - "
"Sam?! The Sam that you forgot to mention was NOT a man? Is
that the Sam that
you're referring to?!" She yelled, getting up from the bed
and beginning to
pace.
Lucky looked shocked. "You mean I didn't tell you that
she...was a she?
'Lizbeth, I'm sorry. I guess it just slipped my mind."
"Slipped your mind?...I really don't see how that's possible
Lucky. The woman
is a goddess."
Lucky rose from the bed at those words and shook his head.
"Elizabeth the only
goddess around here is you."
'Ugh!' Liz thought. 'How did he always know the right thing to
say?' But, she
wasn't about to let him off the hook that easy.
"Lucky! The chick's got legs up to her neck, gorgeous hair -
"
Lucky narrowed the space between them and ran his fingers through
her hair.
"Elizabeth. Your hair is like spun silk," he wispered,
dangerously close to
her neck.
Liz sighed as he kissed the side of her cheek, traveling down her
neck. He was
going to make this impossible for her. 'Well he's finally figured
out how to
win an arguement,' she thought.
He trailed kisses down her arm, mumbling about how much he missed
her as he
worked his way down. He dropped to his knees as he kissed her
fingertips. He
then began to kiss her bare legs revealed by her shorts.
"And I worship these
legs," he mumbled through his kisses.
Soft, hot kisses traveled up her knee, to her thigh. Suddenly he
wrapped his
arms around her waist and kissed her stomach. Liz ran her fingers
through his
hair, beginning to feel weak and lightheaded. She dropped down to
her knees in
front of Lucky, capturing his mouth with hers and kissing him
feverishly. She
was home, at last.
Chapter 22
"I don't know what that is Lucky...a frog...an
elephant?" Liz guessed,
giggling with delight.
Their morning game of "Guess What I'm Drawing on Your
Back," was getting
funnier and funnier by the minute.
"No silly-girl it was a rabit," said Lucky in mock
astonishment that she
couldn't guess. "I guess I'll jut have to erase and start
over," said Lucky as
he rubbed his hand back and forth across the bare flesh of his
wife's back as
she lay on her stomach on the unmade bed. "Ok, guess this
one," he continued.
Lucky began to draw the letter "I" with his finger and
Liz immediately knew
what it was.
"I love you!" she shouted turning her head around to
smile at Lucky.
He looked hurt. "Elizabeth, you are no fun at this
game...you're supposed to -
"
"You wanna know what game I'm really good at?" She
devilishly interrupted,
turning around and grabbing Lucky behind his head, pulling him
down on top of
her.
"Elizabeth!" he yelled in surprise, laughing at his
wife's boldness.
The laughing stopped when there was a knock at the door.
"Let's ignore them," wispered Liz kissing Lucky's neck.
Lucky was about to agree when the person knocked yet again, a bit
harder this
time. Lucky looked towards the door. "Unless you've got a
huge, life size,
check for $1,000,000 in your hand - go away!"
Liz giggled.
"Lucky...Liz...it's me...Sam. I was wondering if I could
talk to you guys a
sec?" yelled Sam through the door.
Liz fell back on the bed with an "oomph." She couldn't
believe the nerve of
this girl. 'One weekend,' she thought. 'One weekend with my
husband without
interruption. Is that too much to ask?'
Lucky saw the look on Elizabeth's face and immediately decided to
get rid of
Sam asap. "What do you need Sam?" he asked in
annoyance.
"Oh, nothing Lucky. Um...I just wanted to apologize to you
and Liz for last
night."
"Ok. Apology accepted," said Lucky flattly as he went
back to kissing his
wife.
"Lucky," Liz mumbled through his kisses. "You
gotta open the door for her."
"Huh?" asked Lucky in shock.
"I know - I know, Lucky, but she obviously feels bad about
taking all your
time up last night, so why don't you let her just come in here,
apologize real
quick...and then," she said kissing him in that very special
spot behind his
ear. "We...can...get...back...to more
important...business."
"Ok." Lucky sighed getting up and putting his shirt on.
For some reason Liz had an unyielding urge to see the
Sarah-look-alike grovel
at her feet. She quickly threw a sweatshirt on over her head.
"Alright go
ahead," she said instructing Lucky to open the door.
"Hey Sam," greeted Lucky unethusiastically. "You
know you really don't have to
do this."
'Yes she does,' thought Liz as she strode over to stand beside
Lucky. "We
would invite you in," said Liz. "But it's a little
messy."
"Oh," said Sam waving a hand in dismissal. "That's
alright, really. I'm not
going to take up too much of your time, especially so early in
the
morning...oh I'm sorry for that too by the way."
'Here she goes rambling again' thought Lucky.
"I just had to apologize to you both for taking up so much
of your time last
night. Especially when I know how much Lucky missed you Liz. I
mean he talks
about you all the time..."
Lucky shifted his weight from foot to foot embarrassed, while Liz
smiled up at
him. 'How sweet,' she thought.
Sam continued. "I just know how much quality time means to
you guys, and I
wouldn't want to do anything to cause any problems for you
guys."
"You didn't," replyed Liz flattly. Sam sounded sincere,
but Liz's suspicious
nature told her not to let this woman think she had even the
teeniest bit of
power over she and her husband. "Really Sam. It's cool. I
mean, how were you
supposed to know that your sink would act up, right? It's fine
really," Liz
finished with a friendly smile.
Liz was beginning to think that maybe Sam was ok. Maybe she had
judged her too
harshly. She barely knew the girl and she had taken an instant
dislikeing to
her. Afterall, it wasn't her fault her sink clogged up and it
wasn't her fault
that she just happened to look like someone Liz wasn't
particularly fond of.
"Oh thanks Liz," said Sam, smiling. "You're so
sweet. I guess you really are
everything Lucky said you were."
"Wow!" Laughed Liz. "I've been called a lot of
things in my life, but
sweet...well that one is rare. But I'll take it."
Sam laughed at Liz and said her goodbyes, leaving the couple
standing in the
doorway, staring at each other.
"What was that about?" asked Lucky walking into the
room. "She was apologizing
to us like she ran over our dog or something,"he laughed.
"Hmm," said Liz sitting down next to him on the bed.
"I think maybe that
apology was more for my benefit than yours."
"Really?"
"Yeah. I think I may have been a little rude last
night."
"Really?" stated Lucky, mischeviously inching towards
her.
"Yeah. Jealous I guess," said Liz softly.
"No need to be jealous baby," Lucky said, slowly
pushing Liz back down upon
the bed. "No need at all."
