On September 3, 1999, the Hockey world was a buzz. It was announced that Mario Lemieux's ownership group officially took over the Penguins on the eve of training camp opening. Lemieux rolled much of the $26 million-plus owed him in deferred payments into an equity stake and acquired nearly a dozen investors to buy the team he once played for. He saved the Team from bankruptcy.
