Analyzing a Commercial
Rubric Score: 3
This essay’s prompt is to write about a commercial that has a positive message to the viewer and a good way to sell products. This essay demonstrates an ESLR of “Productive Individual” because it explains how other people are analyzing a commercial. I was successful in explaining my reasons and my points. My weakness in this essay is grammar and spelling problems. I tried to put a little humor in my essay. My goal in my next essay is to have better penmanship.
The Snapple Break dance Commercial, A Good Way to spend a Few Seconds
There are many companies that have really entertaining advertisements. One of those specific companies is Snapple. Since the year 2002, some of the Snapple commercial were made by regular people with ideas. One of the very well-created commercials is the one where they made Snapple Bottles Break dance. It is very entertaining, and does not use any racism or sexism in the commercial. All it shows is a few bottles having fun dancing.
This commercial showed different colored or flavored Snapple Bottles. This shows that anyone no matter what color could hang around with each other and dance. It represents how music and dancing can bring people together, and at the same time, advertise a drink. Even though the break dancing has nothing to do with the drink, it still works.
Showing the past or bring glimpses of the past to show on a commercial is one of the things the Snapple Commercials did. That commercial shows how things were like back in the 70s-80s. Back then, people would dance anywhere that was open. The scenery or setting in the backgrounds shows the streets and neighborhoods and how it looks like in the past. People who lived during those decades could watch the commercial and say, “Oh!” I remember I used to do that.” So this commercial can make people reminisce about the good times. Another Reason why the Snapple Break Dance Commercial words is because how funny it is. How many Pepsi commercials or Coke advertisements show the drinks doing some action? None. Those companies are too busy using women. Usually, these types of advertisements use beautiful ladies and seductive women or celebrities. The Snapple advertisement uses something out of the ordinary, making non-living things human. When the bottles are dancing, it looks hilarious to look at a spinning bottle that portrays it is human. This commercial will give you good laughs.
The advertisement does not stereotype any race, color or place. The bottles are all the same size or shape. They carry nothing on their face except hair dues. The meaning of the no size/no shape bottles is that everyone is the same and we all are human. The person who created this commercial is not working at a Snapple Company. He/she is just a regular person who had a great idea.
No commercial or advertisement should portray racism, stereotyping, or sexism. There is much other brilliant idea out there. Companies should not waste their money spending loads of cash on a medal or an actor to do seductive sexual activities. No company has to use and create advertisements that will create a controversy. Let’s just all keep it simple and amusing. Instead of trying to stereotype a group, why not advertise something that only a certain group would buy? There are many ideas out there; people only have to grasp them.
