Education

Rachel attended Hornsey School for Girls in North London between 1988 and 1993. It was here that she achieved 10 GCSEs.

From 1993-1995 she studied English, Biology and Chemistry A level along with a Math AS level at Woodhouse Sixth Form College in North Finchley, London.

After a year in the workplace Rachel relocated to Brighton where she undertook a BSC in Molecular Genetics in Biotechnology at Sussex University.

Three years out of education were enough and so we can now find Rachel at the University of Westminster, doing a post-graduate diploma in Print Journalism.

Interests

Rachel is often found at the home of great football - White Hart Lane. Having grown up in Tottenham, her allegiance to Spurs was inevitable. "It's painful at times, but there's nothing I can do," she says.

Rachel is a hungry reader without discrimination. Fiction, essays, news, guides and maps all feature heavily on her reading list. Her favourite author of the moment is Sebastian Faulks.

Rachel loves to travel and has done so extensively across Europe, Australia, Asia and the Middle East. You can view some of her travel writing in the Clippings section of this website.

Keeping fit is important to Rachel - she jogs regularly and practises yoga and pilates.

Friends and family

Rachel's mum Diane lives in Tottenham, North London and works at South Bank University. She lives with Arran, Rachel's 5 year old brother.

Rachel's stepmum, Anna, is a teacher at Grafton Primary School in Holloway, North London.

Steve, Rachel's Dad, lives in Tufnell Pk, North London and is a Port Vale supporter. The season that Tottenham and Port Vale are in the same league will be an interesting on for the Platt family, particularly since premiership ticket prices mean that Rachel has been to more Vale than Spurs' games in recent years. Papa Platt and Grandad Platt have just climbed Kilimanjaro in Tanzania for Whizz Kids charity.

Rachel lives with her partner of four years', Remi. Remi is a trainee carpenter and professional layabout. They live within 3 miles of all 6 of their parents (work that one out).

Rachel is Don't-believe-in-God Mother to Ruby Rachel Mackinnon Lynch, daughter of two of Rachel's best friends. Rumour has it another Mackinnon-Lynch will be on the scene next spring...
