Last Updated: June 10, 2003

Purpose: Gives you nice cold air from your air conditioner if it is blowing hot air.

Application: Pretty much any car from 1992 and newer.

Time Required: ~45 minutes

Scale of Difficulty: 1 (5 being the hardest)

Cost: ~$25

Tools Required:

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Start the car, turn the A/C on and put it on full blast, then pop the hood.

2. Make sure the valve stem from the recharge kit is all the way up (turn it counter-clockwise) and then screw the valve assembly onto the bottle.

3. Screw the hose w/ the attached pressure gauge onto the valve.

4. There are both HIGH and LOW pressure ports on an A/C system. Find the LOW pressure port of the A/C system on your car. Look at the pic above to locate it on the 1st Gen Neon. The HIGH and LOW pressure ports are different in size, so the nozzle from the hose should only fit the LOW pressure port.

5. Unscrew the dust cap from the LOW pressure port and attach the hose to it. The pressure gauge should tell you if you need to add some or not. If it needs recharging, then turn the valve clockwise until it pierces the seal on the can. Then unscrew the valve to let the contents of the can flow through the A/C system. You should hear it flowing. The can will get cold, so wrapping a warm wet towel around it will help it flow faster. Be careful not to get anything caught in the fans or belts while the car is running.

6. Depending on how low your system was, it may take anywhere from 15-45 min to recharge and may take more than one bottle. To check your pressure again, close the valve on the kit, remove the hose from the LOW port and reattach. Check the pressure gauge.

6. When you're done, close the valve on the kit and remove the hose from the LOW pressure port and if the can still has stuff in it, store it like that for another time.
