The Nagasaki Latern Festival
It just happened that the weekend we had our field trip to Nagasaki, there was the annual latern festival.
Nagasaki has historically been a sight of international trade and commerce. It has the oldest Chinatown in Japan
and there are still many traces of Chinese influence throughout the city, from regional food (champon) to laterns.
I never knew laterns could get so elaborate! It was a surreal scene. There was also a huge stage where Chinese acrobats
performed but it was so crowded, I could barely see. I remember some chair-balancing going on...
