Both Dan and Nady, among other students in my program, participated in the parade for the annual festival held
in Fukuoka every year called dontaku, which comes from the dutch word meaning 'festival'. That year, like
every year as I'm told, it rained all day. As participants, everyone was given special dontaku happi
-- sleeveless jackets -- and clappers that look like big wooden rice spoons. They were supposed to parade
around the city doing a special clapping dance with their rice spoons but they only got around the block due to the rain. I finally met up with them at the coffee shop (I'm just not the parading type!)
and made them re-enact the special dance for me. In this particular moment, Dan was convincing Nady to give him a good spanking for being such a bad boy.
You can see Dan's own version of the clapping dance at the Dan page.
