the dan page.

Over the course of my year in Japan, I found that there was one common themein all my photos: Dan! He was the only one willing the make a silly face for every occasion. This page is dedicated to Dan's photogenic goofiness. Also in these pictures are Christine, Fabian, Nady, Ho-Jeong, Young-Min, and Carol.

At an onsen in Beppu. In the background, you can see door to go into a room-size tub of wet sand where people soaked naked (which explains the seperate entrances for men and women).

Dan and Nady and a few other gaijin friends of mine went to take part in the foreigner parade but left early because of the rain. We met up at Starbucks (what can you do, it's Japan), coordinated by our hi-tech cell phones (ahh, natsukashii), drank coffee and dried off. Among the souveniers from the gaijin parade were these nifty hapi (it says Hakata Dontaku Matsuri on it) and these wooden clappers that looked suspiciously like wooden versions of the plastic spoons people use to take rice out of the rice cooker. Dan was showing us how you're supposed to use these rice spoons as clappers but it devolved into Dan and Nady paddling each other. We were soaked and exhausted; it was fun.
