To access the Sonic 3 level select and sound test, press Up, Up, Down, Down, Up, Up, Up, and Up before the title screen but after the "SEGA". You must enter the code while the background is black. (NOTE: This code is extremely hard to pull off; it may take several tries to get this right.) You will hear a ring chime if the code is entered correctly. At the title screen, press Up once to find the "sound test" option. For the sound test, A skips the tens digit ahead one, B cancels the current tune, and C plays the current tune. Have fun!
Note: You must activate the level select cheat in order for this code to work
To access the debug mode cheat, enter the level select and sound test screen. Highlight the Sonic 3 stage you wish to play. Hold A while pressing Start to start the stage in debug mode. Once in the stage, B turns debug mode on or off. In debug mode, A changes the currently selected object and C places the object on-screen.
Note: You must have activated the level select and debug mode code in order for this cheat to work
After entering the level select and debug mode cheats, you can use the debug to turn yourself into Super Sonic without getting the Chaos Emeralds! With the Debug On, go into any level and press Button B to turn yourself into a ring. Then press A to turn yourself into a monitor. Now, press button C to duplicate the monitor, and then B again to change back into Sonic. Jump on the monitor, and you'll become Super Sonic!
