Same ship as before but with new fire effects. Tails gets spacked down and ray, with edited-on-the-spot new poses, comes to rescue him, Ray has a horribly limited sprite sheet so I made a load of extra poses and attacks for him as and when I needed them, which really helped given how much more expressive I need my sprites to be. Their reunion is a little better here, with Ray calling Tails “Miles” briefly and alluding to Tails having a two-to-one winning streak against him.

Ray gives tails the information and conformation he needs, again, and they race and talk over another new background. However, for some reason I forget right now, the background to the Time Stone Shrine is exactly the same one from the original Saga. I got a bit mixed up in doing this comic about whether it should be a homage (like some scene sin my newer comics have been) or a whole new version (which the Remastered BFTCE comic was), in the end I settled for both. I’ve replaced the old Chaos Emerald sprite from Sonic Spinball I used as the Time Stone with the actual Time Stone sprite from Sonic CD, as well, and it is held up by more efficient looking effects as opposed to lines. Bomb and Heavy retain, mostly, as does Ray but I’ll come onto that more later, the personalities I gave them originally. This time around, tails and Ray enter from the opposite way from before and knock Bomb into Heavy and up onto the upper perch.

Tails’s attack is ineffective against Heavy, so he just drops down, then Heavy tosses Ray behind him and to Bomb. Heavy then smacks Tails while Ray kicks Bomb away, making use of the split screen fight scenes I use now, as opposed to just actions on a coloured background. Bomb and Heavy have altered dialogue here because I grew to dislike the “Cuz I blow” pun from before. Also, this time, there is more emphasis that Heavy and Bomb know they’re going for a suicide run but they miss their targets and blow up he Robotisation Machine instead, allowing Ray to swear some more. I upped his Damn count some more to give him a bit more personality.

Ray grabs the Time tone a little better this time (as opposed to just dying underneath it) and I gave the Shrine a glow of light when the Stone is removed to show the power being effectively removed. Ray is full of confidence, even twirling the Time Stone on his finger, and the two are ready to be off. In the style of the Chaos Ring Saga, I’ve added black and white still frames with a little narration to set up the next part, as well as some decent Word Art to close the first part.

OVERALL

Oh my, much better. Sharper, crisper and more in keeping with my later comics. Though I was out of practise when I did this part, I quickly regained my composure and got into it pretty well. I’ve introduced only a few of the brand new backgrounds I put together just for this new Saga here and I feel better about Ray, Tails’s story and a bunch of other things small and big. Let’s get onto the next part!
