This is a story I am writing called Ennovy Skrey. I will continue it every once in a while, so look back here to see if it has been updated. I hope you enjoy it and email me your comments. If it says that Abigail's last name is Gustov, please email me. It is now Amani. And if anywhere it says Inimalas, email me so I can change it to Inamalas. Also, if there are any other mistakes, such as spelling mistakes or typos, tell me so I can fix them. Thanks.

ENNOVY SKREY

Ennovy Skrey. That's what they call her. She never understood what her parents were thinking when they named her, but she always figured that maybe they were looking for some spice in their lives. She knew she was. Then again, parents are parents.
Ennovy, unlike many of the people she knows, looks for trouble. In her little town of Redov Hills, the most exciting thing that can be encountered is an occasional bowling tournament. This bores Ennovy of course.
So, after planning and mastering her escape route, Ennovy began leaving her house late at night, looking for something, anything, exciting. One night, she came across an unexpected event that changed her life forever.
*****
Ennovy listened at her door for any sign of a noise coming from her parents if they were awake. She smiled at the silence and crept to her window, opening it as quietly as possible. Carefully, she climbed out the window and began to lower herself down the side of the house. When she was close enough, she leaped silently to the ground. Again, she checked for noise. She laughed aloud. "Parents. It's only 9:00 and they're in bed. That's just too boring."
Ennovy took off in a sprint towards the park, her favorite place in Redov. Althouhg it's bright, carefree, and relaxing in the sunlight, when night hits, the park is a very dangerous place. Trouble can be found around every corner, the perfect place for Ennovy's ideas of fun.
When she arrived, Ennovy began to walk through, hoping to find someone who would begin a chase or something. 'Strange.' she thought to herself, 'it seems as if I've missed all of my muggers.' She frowned until she spotted a man out of the corner of her eye in the darknes. He was leaning against a solitary tree, wearing a long, black trenchcoat and shades. She slowly approached him, hoping he held the key to end the night's boredom.
"Hello Ennovy Skrey. I've been looking for you." he began.
Although somewhat frightened by this stranger's knowledge, Ennovy walked closer, pretending to be undaunted by the statement. "You have."
"Of course. What would the world do without its protector?"
"Protector? I'm not sure I follow you."
"You wouldn't. Not yet anyway. You're very behind on your training."
"I still don't get it."
"There are many evils in the world. Vampires are real. It is your sacred duty to save the world."
"So, I'm kinda like Buffy. Does that mean I get a hunky boyfriend? Or two?"
"Don't believe everything you see on T.V. Your power exceeds hers. It's real. You're not an actress."
"Am I the chosen one?"
"Sort of, I guess."
"Does that make you my Watcher?"
"No!.....Well, I prefer to be called a Guide."
Ennovy smirked, "Do you have a Council?"
"It's an Organization." he mumbled.
"What was that thing you said about T.V.?"
"Ennovy, please keep your unwanted wit and sarcasm to yourself."
"You know, I don't need this. I don't want to fight evil. And how do I even know that such evil exists? You could be just some creative mugger."
"You were looking for excitement and adventure."
"Maybe I should have specified."
"You should be careful what you wish for."
"Well, if I'm the chosen one, I choose not to believe your stories. I'm outta here. See ya around, maybe." Ennovy walked away.
"You can count on it Ennovy Skrey. We'll be seeing eachother again." the stranger said when she was out of range.
*****
When Ennovy left the park, she headed straight home. 'What a creep.' she thought to herself, over and over again. At her house, she silently scaled it's side to make it to her window. She hopped inside and checked the hallway for her parents. When she was sure that they wouldn't hear her, Ennovy began to change into her night clothes. Afterwards, she finally noticed that her computer was on.
"I don't remember leaving that on. Maybe Mom and Dad discovered I was missing and decided to write me and angry letter instead of confronting me when I cam home so they could sleep?" She did, indeed, have mail. Ennovy clicked the mail icon and opened the newest letter. She read aloud:
"Parker Fountain. May 18th. Mission Primer."
She turned the computer off. "What kind of messed up prank is that?" She climbed into her bed, trying to discard the letter from her mind. Ennovy slept.
In the morning, Ennovy awoke to her alarm and sat up.
"Ennovy sweetie! Get ready for school!" she heard her mom call up.
"I'm going!" she got up and got dressed. Then, she glided down her stairs and walked into the kitchen.
"Ennovy, sit and eat your breakfast. And good morning!"
"Morning." She nodded at her dad, who did the same and then went back to his newspaper. 'Mutual agreement. I don't get you involved, and you don't bother me.' She smiled. "Mom, I may not be home after school, but I'll call you later."
"Okay. Remember, curfew is 9:30."
"Yeah. I'll be back. Well, gotta go. Bye." She rushed out the door without waiting for a response.
Ennovy began to walk to the school. 'Living this close to school sucks. It's like living right next to your own private hell and having to visit it practically everyday.'
When she got to the school, she walked to a table in the courtyard, sat, and waited for her friends. About three minutes later, two girls and a guy walked up to Ennovy.
"Hey guys!" she greeted.
"Hey Ennovy." the tall, black haired girl replied. Cyndi.
"Hi." the shorter brunette also replied. Elisa.
"Yo Ennovy!" the tall, blue haired boy said. Jay.
"You all will never guess what happened to me at the park last night."
"Tell us." Cyndi sat next to her.
"Yeah, can't wait." Jay sat on the table.
"Okay." She brushed her fire engine red hair out of her face. "I met this really weird guy."
"Please tell me you didn't sleep with him!" Elisa shrieked.
"Eww. Of course not. But he was some sort of super creative mugger. He totally freaked me out because he knew my name, but then he kept talking nonsense, so I left."
"Interesting. And he didn't get your money?"
"No Jay, he didn't get my money."
"What an amateur! I woulda had your cash in a second."
"Yeah, think what you will."
"Anyway, shouldn't we be going to class soon." Elisa commented irritated.
"I guess."
"C'mon Ennovy, you know how much I can't stand to be late for class." Jay laughed.
"God Jay, nerd much?"
"You know I wasn't serious."
"How do I know that your so called 'cool' exterior isn't just a facade, hiding your braniac, geeky true self?"
"You caught me." He pushed invisible glasses off the bridge of his nose and snorted. Then he put his arm around Ennovy. "You know me too well."
"Ugh! He touched me! I feel the intelligence seeping into my veins. Help! Pi equals 3.141592654 etcetera."
"Ennovy, you're such a drama queen." Elisa brushed past the two and walked into the school.
"We should really do that too. Enter the school. Now." Ennovy entered and her two remaining friends followed. Since they all had the same class, they continued to walk together. They entered the class just on time.
Ennovy walked over to her seat, next to her lab partner. "Hey best friend."
"Don't talk to me, freak. You'll ruin my rep." Lab partner fixed his collar and glared.
"Your wannabe-loser-jock rep? Of course you wouldn't want that tarnished."
"Ooh, good one. That hurt. Did it take you all night to come up with that slammer?"
"Attempt of sarcasm. I'm not impressed."
He brushed her comment off and began to talk to his blond cheerleader girlfriend. Ennovy rolled her eyes and opened her biology book to the page of the day's chapter, but she didn't pay attention during the class. She found it too boring as always.
Afterwards, Ennovy Jay, Elisa, and Cyndi stood in the middle of a hallway.
"So, we'll see you guys at lunch, okay?" Cyndi started.
"You can't leave me with Prodigy Child. No! Don't look at me, Geek Boy!" Ennovy brushed Jay away as she begged Elisa and Cyndi not to leave.
"Ennovy, everyday Cyndi and I leave you two. We have calss together and you have class with Jay. No big." Elisa sighed.
"Fine, but don't cry when I become one of them." Ennovy smirked and grabbed Jay's arm and spun him around. "Let's go nerd. Atleast you can help me with my homework." she said lowdly so her other friends could hear. Ennovy and Jay walked to their class. This time, they were actually late.
"Mr.Kent, Ms.Skrey. It's nice of you to join us. May I ask where you were?" the teacher remarked.
"They were probably doing 'it' in a closet!" a moronic student shouted, creating a roar of laughter.
"Of course not..." Jay glared.
"Well thank heavens. I would hope not..." the pale teacher relaxed.
Then, Ennovy piped up, "Yeah, there's not enough room in the closet. We had to go behind the bleachers in the gym. But it is pretty hot in there, so for next time, we're thinking a locker room." She smirked as numerous gasps, giggles, and chatter spread through the classroom. "Let's go HotStuff." Ennovy grabbed Jay's hand, he smiled, and they sat at their adjacent desks.
"Oh my!" the teacher sat and began rifling through her papers, without looking up, until she found the stack she was searching for. "Test time." she said weakly and began to pass out the exams.
Ennovy laughed to herself and started to write on her test. 'Gullible, gullible school.'
*****
AT lunchtime, Ennovy met Jay, Elisa, and Cyndi at they table in the courtyard. They all pulled out their lunches.
"Those poor people who buy school lunch. You'd think by now they'd know how bad it tastes. Scary." Ennovy made a face. "I am perfectly happy with my bagel and cream cheese."
"Peanut butter and jelly here. It's the classic lunch. Lately, PB&J has been ignored, but I plan on bringing it back full steam." Jay bit into his sandwich lustfully. "Ah, the good ol' days."
"Well, I have a classic tuna sandwich." Elisa argued. "If PB&J is considered so great, how can we forget that?"
"You got me there, but you have to agree, PB&J is totally the most eaten classic."
"Yeah, I guess. But not by me. I'm a tuna girl all the way."
"Personally," Cyndi interrupted, "I find more exotic foods, such as my sushi, a better substitute for the boringness and blandness of sandwiches."
"Sushi? And no way! Sandwiches rock!"
"Jay, don't you think you're a bit too attached to the lunch. And the sushi is from my aunt. She thinks everyone should get an exotic taste of life."
"Whatever. Sandwiches still rock!"
"So, getting off the lunch war topic, although it was very amusing, what are our plans for tonight?" Ennovy asked while throwing away her trash. "Spacey's? We can go dancing."
"Yeah. I feel like shaking it today."
"Right on Cyndi! Jay, Elisa, you in?"
"I'm there in a heartbeat."
"I'll be there too, but what time?" Elisa questioned.
"Um, 8:00 good? We'll have an hour and a half before I have to be home."
"Curfew! Sucks!" Jay snickered.
"Shut up Ass."
"Okay, um, I have to go to my Grandma's house immediately after school, but I'll meet you guys at Spacey's promptly. Maybe early."
"Grandma Charlotte? Past the woods?"
"Yes. Over the river and through the."
"Be careful Elisa. Even though the park goes through those woods, it's still dangerous." Ennovy warned.
"I know, Safety Queen. I've done it so many times before, I could close my eyes. I'll look out for your boyfriend, don't worry."
"Blah! Alright. Don't get hissy. Just, stay safe."
"Uh huh."
The end lunch bell rang, and the four friends stared up at it.
"Is that supposed to mean something?" Jay asked.
Ennovy shrugged, "I guess it has something to do with re-entering the school building."
"They all sighed. "Hmm."
*****
After school, Ennovy walked to her house to find a different car in her driveway. 'Visitors?' She entered the house and was immediately greeted by her mother, who dragged her into their living room.
"Annabelle, I'd like you to meet our wonderful daughter, Ennovy."
Annabelle, a tall woman in her late 30s or early 40s who obviously appeared to be trying to look in her 20s, looked Ennovy up and down with a semi-hidden look of disgust on her face. Ennovy glared back, thinking, 'What does she have against holey jeans and Bush shirts?'
"Pleased to meet you, Ennovy. I'm Annabelle Amani, a friend of your mother's from high school. I just moved here with my family and looked your mother up."
"Charmed, I'm sure. If you'll excuse me, I have to, um..."
"Wait! I would like you to meet my daughter, Abigail. She'll be here in a moment."
Ennovy sighed and rolled her eyes. 'Great, just what I need. To meet an Abigail.'
"Ah, Agigail sweetie. I'd...um...like you to meet Ennovy Skrey, Rosa Skrey's daughter."
Ennovy stared at the Abigail. 'Perfect Abigail material. Tall, blond, slim, blue eyes, perfect manicure, and preppy clothes.' Ennovy held out her hand first this time. "Hello Abigail."
"Pleasure to make your acquaintence, Ennovy. I shall be joining your educational system soon, so I'm sure we'll have great fun together. Do you take riding lessons? I'm an excellent teacher."
"Um, sure. Whatever."
Abigail scowled as she took in Ennovy's appearance. "Or, we could go shopping!"
"Hmm. That all sounds great, but if you'll excuse me this time, I have to go practice my classical piano....or bulimia. Maybe you'll join me some time. My instructor Jon would be pleased to make your acquaintence. Ta ta." Ennovy bounded up the stairs and went into her room. "Not a moment too soon. Riding lessons. Blech!" Ennovy decided to forget her encounter with Annabelle and Abigail Amani by sleeping until 8:00. 'It's the safest way.'
Hours later, Ennovy awoke. "7:30, perfect timing." She got up to change. She threw on a gray t-shirt and blue cargo pants. "Perfect once again. I should take Abigail shopping for a new wardrobe." Ennovy shuddered at the thought of having to associate with that girl again. "7:40. Enough time to walk to Spacey's, not run."
Ennovy didn't want to answer any questions her mom may have, and she didn't want to talk about the Gustov's, so she snuck out the front door, as silebtly as she could. Then, she headed towards Spacey's, only about a mile away from her house. 'Everything's in walking distance when you live in a cow town. Thank God for hangouts like Spacey's.'
After a good time of walking, Ennovy approached the Town Square where all of the minor 'hustle and bustle' a rural area can have was located. While nearing Spacey's, she spotted two figures talking in front of a large, shaded obstruction. 'If those are some creeps, I have some time to stir up some trouble.' Ennovy smiled as she continued. She got close enough to recognize Jay's blue hair. 'But who's with him? Cyndi? Elisa?' A few more steps. 'Oh. I see her now. It's just Elisa.' Ennovy watched as Jay turned away from Elisa and herself. Ennovy began to wave. 'Atleast Elisa will see me.'
Then, before attracting Elisa's attention, Ennovy noticed a quick glisten coming from Elisa's mouth. 'No.' Elisa began to lean into Jay's neck, and Ennovy began to sprint as a reflex. Elisa smiled as her teeth brushed against Jay, but immediately faded as a blow to her side knocked her down. She growled and looked up.
"Elisa! You're...a..."
"Vampire, Ennovy? Undead and proud of it!"
"But, you weren't."
"Well, I guess I have to give you some credit. That park is pretty dangerous. You could say it's almost deathly." she hissed.
Ennovy paused, briefly thinking. She reached her right hand to her back pocket. "God, I'm so sorry Elisa..."
"Sorry?!? The Drama Queen sorry for me? Ha! How naive are you? I'm happy to be free from the living, free from having to talk to you everyday and hear your selfish nonsense. I should have been the leader of the group! I was always better, but you just had to be in the spotlight 24/7! Well, not anymore. Now I'm the strong and powerful one. And you're the cowering victim. I was just about to bring Jay over to my side, so you'd have one less follower, and I'd gain my rightful standing. But then you showed up again! So, you sorry? I highly doubt that. You should be though. But, I guess I'm the one who should be sorry after what I'm about to do.." She bared her teeth. "If I cared that you died. How could you ever be sorry for me?!?"
Ennovy smirked, "Gosh Elisa, you must not have understood me. I'm not sorry that you became a vampire. And I'm not cowering. I'm just sorry for what I'm about to do, not what you're about to do." Elisa's eyes widened as Ennoy raised her right arm, revealing a No.2 pencil. She swiftly jabbed it into Elisa's heart and stepped back. "You know, that thing where you're about to turn into dust."
Elisa clutched the pencil and glared at Ennovy. "Bitch." She burst into the famous vampire dust and was gone.
Ennovy sighed, She shook her head and turned around to see a shocked Jay. "Um, hey Jay."
"H-Hey." He paused. "Strong parting word." He smiled weakly.
"Yeah. Weird."
"Is there something you want to tell me?"
"Um...no. Not really. Too much Buffy, I guess."
"Alright."
"Hey guys!" Cyndi ran up to Jay and Ennovy. "I thought we were meeting by Spacey's, not Parker Fountain. Oh well, sue me for being late then. Where's Elisa?"
"We have to tell you something, Cyndi." Jay frowned.
"What?"
"It's about Elisa..."
"Wait!" Ennovy interrupted. "Cyndi, did you say Parker Fountain?"
"Um, yeah. You're standing right in front of it. It's the new memorial fountain for William Parker, the guy who founded Redov."
Ennovy's mind raced back to the mysterious email she had gotten last night. "Maybe there is something I have to tell you, Jay. Whether you'll understand or believe me will be decided in a moment."
Ennovy fully explained her encounter with the stranger in the park and of the email. Jay and Cyndi listened in awe.
Jay was the first to comment. "So, our best friend is, like, Buffy?"
"You can put it that way. That's how I see it."
"That's so cool! Wait...does that make me Xander?"
"Probably." Cyndi finally joined. "Then, I'm supposedly Willow. That's cool. Except, I suck at using computers. But I can read."
"So, you're definitely not Cordelia." Ennovy laughed.
"Yeah."
"I don't want to be Xander. He has no game. No good chicks!"
"Describes you perfectly."
"Shut up Willow."
She smirked. "Well, you do get Anya."
"Great."
"I still can't believe Elisa was a vamp. And now she's completely dead."
"I know." Ennovy frowned. "But what I really can't believe is how much she hated me. I thought we were better friends."
"She was being ruder lately." Cyndi comforted. "But, of course you couldn't have known. We didn't."
"Oh well." She paused. "You guys probably would rather not go to Spacey's tonight, I bet."
"I think home, in my safe bed, is where I'd like to be."
"I don't blame you."
"Yeah. I agree. She tried to bite. It gives me shivers. Normally, I'd be thinking 'Kinky,' it'd probably turn me on, and intrigue me, but not when death is on the other end of the bite."
"God Xander! Is that all you think about?"
"You watch way too much TV, En. I'm goin' home. Maybe we can go out tomorrow."
"Sure."
"Good idea. Well, bye guys."
"Bye Cyndi. And bye En. See y'all tomorrow."
"Yeah. Ciao!" Ennovy waved as her friends waled in their respective directions. When they were gone, she ran to her own house. '9:00. I still have a half an hour.' She paused at her front door. Ennovy thought for a second, then took off towards the park.
When she got there, she walked to the same spot she had seen the stranger last night. He was, in fact, there.
"Hello Ennovy Skrey. I knew I'd be seeing you again."
"Hm. Well, here I am. Elisa was a vampire, and I had to 'kill' kill her. My friend."
"But you believe me now. That's all that matters."
"Okay, so talk. Tell me what I need to know. Such as, who are you?"
"My name is Seaver. And that's my first name, not my last name like Giles. I knew you were going to say something."
"Who? Me?"
"Anyway, I have to explain to you the extent of your power. Buffy, as you'd compare, has nothing over you. You weren't trained for any of your life, and you kill a vampire on your first try. That should mean something to you. I don't think you need any major training."
"No way. I kill one vampire, and I'm all ready for everything. I figured that I just watched 'Buffy' and 'Angel' too much."
"That could be part of it, but you felt it as a reflex, did you not?"
"Well, yeah. I didn't really have to think about it."
"Exactly."
"Okay, so the whole Protector thing...."
"Yes, yes. I must bring up the dire subject. In one month's time, a very powerful demon, Inamalas, will be here to take over the world, starting with you and Redov Hills. After destroying you, he'll move on to everyone else. He won't be stopped if you let him succeed in killing you."
"What about the chick who'd take my place if I die? Protector II? I don't want to die, but if I do, shouldn't she be able to take over and try to win?"
"I said don't believe all you see on TV. Slayer Buffy may have a back-up Slayer, but you, Protector Ennovy, do not. You are the one and only. Without you, the world is lost."
"And I thought high school was a lot of pressure. How am I supposed to beat this thing? All I did was kill a simple vamp. I doubt a pencil will do the trick."
"You have other powers on your side, not just physical strengths. First of all, you posess a telekinetic power, the ability to move objects with your mind."
"Oh, I get it. Like..."
"If you say like Prue from 'Charmed' I swear I'll smack you."
"Sorry. Continue."
"Unlike Prue's, your power is weak. It can move objects, vampires, and small demons, but it stands no chance against Inimalas. Yet, at least."
"How's that supposed to help me?"
"Did I say I was done?"
"Well, no. Go ahead."
"Thank you. Another oneof your powers is the ability to take the form of other life forms. Meaning, you can look like a vampire, but still posess all, and only, your powers still."
"Ooh. So I can confuse them and then kill them."
"Yes."
"That's not very helpful for Ina- whatever either I bet."
Seaver rolled his eyes. "Inamalas. But no. It isn't an incredible factor. There's more, though. Your final ability is your strongest. And best. Electric Shock Flames, easier known as ESF's."
"ESF's? Explain."
"Don't be so impatient. I was obviously getting there. When activated, Inimalas will have a real hard time trying to live. You have to clutch your hands to your heart, then push out as if you were throwing a wave. The ESF will flow through your fingers and palms, then fly towards your opponent in a flame like ball. ESF."
"Interesting. But how come I've never noticed these powers before? You'd think I ma have hurt someone in the past sixteen years of my life, but nothing."
"It's not as easy as you may think. Your gifts must be triggered. There's a key that unlocks them."
"Okay, what's the key?"
"Umm..."
"You don't know?"
"Well, I haven't found it yet. But I'm sure we will."
"I only have a month! You've had a whole lot of time to look and couldn't find anything. What can I do in a month!?"
"You'll have to discover it as quickly as possible."
"Why didn't you find me sooner? Tell me sooner?"
"Because I couldn't find you." He averted his eyes to another direction.
"You couldn't find me? I'm sure Ennovy Skrey is such a popular name. You must have had to search many towns for just the right one."
"It was mainly finding your town that filled the time."
"I knew Redov wasn't on the map. Damn hick town!" She waved her fist in the air angrily.
"It is pretty sad."
"Hey! Well anyway, haven't you been looking for me all your life? If I'm so important."
"They wouldn't let me. I just started a year ago."
"Who's they? The Council?" She smirked.
"Organization!"
"Geez. I know."
"Sorry."
"I should go now. It's almost 9:30. Curfew."
"Well then, you better run."
"Bye!" Ennovy took off towards her house. She ran as fast as possible. 'Gotta get home.' While running, Ennovy looked to her side. "Dammit!" Basically right beside her, chasing a short haired blonde, was another vampire. "I'm going to be in so much trouble." She veered to her left. towards the two.
The vampire was a tall, black haired, caucasian male. He held the girl against a tree. "This is gonna be sweet." He grinned and began to press his teeth at the blonde's neck.
"Leave her alone" Ennovy interrupted in a monotone voice, apparently bored.
"Go away, chick." he hissed as he looked up. "Shouldn't you be out with your clique?" He continued to attack the girl.
"Do you have cotton shoved in your ears? I said 'Leave her alone'"
"Do you want a piece of this? 'Cuz I don't think you're prepared to handle me.
"Oh, I'm prepared. Stick in hand, substitution for stake. Thrust." Ennovy shoved the stick into his chest. "I believe the stick is in your possession now."
He growled. "Bitch." Poof....dusted.
"That's a popular opinion tonight." She shrugged.
"Thanks so much." the terrified girl finally said.
"Um, no problem. Maybe you should go home." Ennovy looked at her watch. "Crap! Me too. Ciao!" She took off again. She made it to her doorstep. At 9:40. The door opened.
"I know mom, and I'm really sorry."
"There are no excuses. You promised me."
"Uh huh." Ennovy looked at her feet. "So, are you gonna punish me?"
"Of course. But..."
'But? Yes!'
"You're not grounded or anything like that."
'Thank-You.'
"Oh no, Ennovy. I've decided a better punishment would be turning you into tour guide for the day."
"What?"
"Tomorrow, you'll be showing Abigail around Redov."
"You mean, I have to spend my Saturday showing Abigail the nothingness that is our town. I'm sure she's already seen all there is to see. And isn't it kinda harsh of you to call hanging out with Abigail a punishment. Aren't you supposed to be her mom's friend?"
"Ennovy! No arguments. Now, go to bed. You have a long day ahead for you."
'Dammit.' "Alright mother. Good night."
"Good night, Sweetie."
Ennovy stormed up the stairs and went into her room. She shut her door enough to show that she was a little pissed and then sat on her bed. "Abigail Amani. What a joke! Spending my Saturday with a rich minster. I shoulda let Elsia kill me." Ennovy frowned at the thought of Elisa. Then, once again, she stared at her booted computer. "Okay, that's getting annoying. What a waste of electricity. I know I turned it off last night. And I haven't used it recently." Remembering the last night, Ennovy checked her mail. "I've got mail. Surprise, surprise." She read aloud:

"Spacey's Dance Club. May 19th. Mission Train."

"Bum, bum, bum...I don't know what that's supposed to mean, but I'm sure I'll find out."
Ennovy walked over to her bed and changed to sleep. Then, she climbed in and turned off the light. 'Maybe Jay and Cyndi eould want to join me on the tour tomorrow. And, they can be graced by the presence of Miss Abigail. Hopefully they'll join me.'
*****
At 10:00AM, Ennovy awoke to her phone ringing. She grabbed for it on the third ring. "Hello."
"Hey En! Long time no see."
"Jay. Hey. What's up?"
"Not much."
"I've got a favor to ask you."
"Um, okay. Shoot."
"How'd you like to accompany me and my new neighbor Abigail on a tour of Redov?"
"Wouldn't she have already seen everything there is to see if she's been here for more than a few minutes?"
"That's basically what I said, but it's my ounishment for missing curfew."
He laughed. "How'd you miss curfew? I thought we let you go on time."
"Well, I went back to the oark to talk to my Guide, Seaver. Ya know, to learn more about my Buffyness."
"Oh, and he made you late?"
"Not exactly. I would have made it home, but my damn conscience kicked in when I saw a vamp chasing some blonde. So, I stopped by to jab him with a stick, then hurried home. But, too late, 9:40. Mom was waiting. And now I have to hang out with an Abigail."
"That name does not represent good things, eh?"
"Nope. She and her mother, Annabelle, are too nose-in-the-cloud types. Not my people."
"Yeah. You prefer nose-in-the-dirt."
"Especially when I'm the one who smashed your nose there."
"So, then, I guess if I declined your favor, you'd have to hurt me, right?"
"Uh huh. So, you coming?"
"Sure."
"Good. I'm gonna call Cyndi too."
"She's not home. Her mom dragged her to the mall. That's why I called, to tell you the bad news."
"Poor, poor Cyndi. But, I'd switch places with her today."
"I'd even switch if I was in your position. And I do not look good in a skirt. My claves are too chubby."
"They're not chubby, just muscular. But I'd love to see you in a skirt."
"A fantasy of yours? Come over some time and bring one. I'd do anything for a friend."
"How about today> After Abigail?"
"Sure. Whatever."
"Oh, wait. I don't have any skirts that are in good condition."
"Lucky you."
"Why?"
"That means your mom never makes you dress up for special occasions. I have three new suits and mucho sweatervests."
Ennovy laughed. "Sweatervests? I'd rather see you in one of those instead of a dress."
"Maybe some day you'll be lucky enough. I'll wear an old one some time."
"Yeah, you wouldn't want to ruin your Christmas outfit."
"Shut up. I look good."
"I'm sure." Ennovy smiled to herself. "Has Xander ever worn a sweatervest? That would be pretty funny."
"Hey! I'm not Xander! I'd like to think of myself as an Angel, or Riley, or even Oz."
"You wish. Hold on a sec, I've got another call."
"Alright."
"Hello?"
"Hello, may I please speak to Ennovy?" a seemingly familiar voice spoke."
"This is her."
"Hello Ennovy. This is Agigail Amani. Your mother has told me that you are to give me a tour of Redov Hills.:
"Yeah, yeah. What time is convieient for you?"
"How about 11:00? It is 10:35 at the moment."
"Um, okay. My friend Jay will be joining us, if that's okay."
"Of course it's okay. So, I'll be meeting you at 11:00? Is at your house good?"
"Uh huh. C'mon over."
"Okay then. Goodbye for now, Ennovy."
"Bye Abigail."
Beep. "Jay?"
"I'm still here."
"Good. It was Abigail."
"Oh. She knows your number already?"
"Her mom and mine were friends in school. I'm sure that's where she got it from."
"Right. Okay. So, what's the plan?"
"Come over here before 11:00. That's when she'll be here. Then, we'll tour Redov."
"Cool. I'll come right now."
"Good. I'd prefer you be here first."
"Uh huh. 'Kay. See ya soon. Bye."
"Bye. " Ennovy hung up the phone at 10:45. 'Now, to wait.'
Ten minutes later, after Ennovy had quickly showered and changed, her doorbell rang. She rushed down the stairs, hairbrush in hand, to open the door.
"Hey En! Am I on time? Is the Abigail here yet?"
"How wrong would that have sounded if she had been here, listening?"
Shame she isn't. That woulda been a great first impression."
"Hello? Ennovy?"
Jay spun around to see the tall, brunette Abigail smiling sweetly and standing with a hand on her hip.
Ennovy smirked. "Abigail. You're early."
Abigail giggled. "Only by like three minutes. No big deal."
"You are absolutely right. Abigail, this is my friend Jay."
"Nice to meet you, Abigail." Jay put his hand out towards her. She shook it daintily.
"Of course." Abigail's eyes fluttered on Jay as she looked him over. A small and hidden look of disgust spread over her face when she took in the color of his hair and the sloppy way he was dressed. Then, her attention turned to Ennovy's still wet red hair. Abigail twirled the chocolate colored hair that had fallen in front of her face. She smiled. "Well, I guess we should begin that tour."
"Yes. Let's. C'mon Jay." Ennovy walked past the both of them and turned around to speak. "First stop, the park."
They walked on Ennovy's usual route to the park. Abigail took in the minor scenery of Redov Hills. Every few minutes, she would laugh at how miniscule everything is. Ennovy just shook her head and kept leading towards the park.
"The park is one of the most popular places in town, during the day. Kids play, people walk. It's pleasant."
"Why'd you say 'during the day'?" Abigail inquired.
"Not that it isn't popular at night, just popular with different people. Well, let's just say that it's dangerous. Muggers play, murderers walk."
"Ah, I understand. That's disturbing how such a cute place can turn evil and scary."
"Yeah. It's just plain wrong."
"Thanks for the warning, Ennovy."
"Uh huh. No prob."
Ennovy, Jay, and Abigail walked the length of the park for half an hour. Afterwards, they went to a drink stand because Abigail began to slightly complain about being thirsty.
"This is Lady G's Guice Bar. See what you want and get it. It had practically everything."
"Thanks Ennovy. I'll only be a sec. You guys can wait for me at that picnic table over there, okay?"
"Alright."
Ennovy and Jay left Abigail to sit. Jay smirked when Ennovy rolled her eyes at Abigail.
"She's not that bad, En."
"But she's annoying. And a complainer. I don't appreciate her comments."
"About what? She was thirsty. No big."
"Erm."
"Erm? Don't give me that erm? Just give her more of a chance."
"Okay, okay."
"Hi! I'm back. Hope you didn't miss me too much."
"Abigail. Hey. Have a seat."
"So Ennovy, I know a bunch about you from my mom, but I'm sure you know nothing about me. I like to answer most questions."
"I have one." Jay took over the control of conversation. "I hear your mom used to be friends with Ennovy's mom, but what about your dad. Where's he?"
"He's not an absent father, if that's what you're thinking. He is just finishing up some meetings and business projects, but he'll be here on June 1st. We're going to throw him a small party to celebrate our moving here. We're only inviting your family, Ennovy, and you can come too, Jay."
"Yeah, okay. Can our other friend, Cyndi, come too."
"Sure. It'll be an incredible time."
"Helluva good day, eh?"
"You could say that, yes."
Ennovy laughed. "Okay. Um, when are you staring school with us? Monday?"
"Uh huh. That'll be fun too. Can't wait!"
Jay tilted his head and smiled. "You smart?"
"Yes."
"Well then, we're not exactly your kind of people. We're the outcasts."
"Oh. Well, I never have too many friends."
"Hard to believe."
"It's true. I swear." She held up two fingers. "Amani honor."
"Huh?"
"My dad invented it. He has to lie a lot sometimes, so we'd totally know when he's serious when he holds up two fingers as the 'Amani Honor.'"
"Ah. Okay."
"Okay guys, it's noon already. I say we continue the tour, eat in an hour, and then finish up." Ennovy interrupted the Q&A.
"Let's go."
In an hour's time, Ennovy, Jay, and Abigail had strolled by the school, and then went for lunch in Mertle's diner. After that, they explored the rest of the town; Jay's house, the firehouse, police station, mini mall, and Lake Boyce. They did everything there is to possibly do in Redov. It actually lasted until 7:30.
"Well that was intersting. I didn't know a tour of Redov would last so long." Ennovy laughed.
Jay rolled his eyes. "Maybe it took longer because Abigail felt the urge to buy a few ten things."
"I'm a girl. I have a right to shop. Besides, I needed something new and special for Monday." Abigail flipped her hair over her shoulder. "Are you tired, Jay?"
"Of course not. Not yet anyway."
"So, what are you guys doing tonight?"
"Spacey's?" Jay looked over at Ennovy.
"I was actually planning on that. I got a special email last night about Buffy."
"Really?"
"Yeah. I'll show it to you tomorrow."
"Okay. So, Spacey's it is?"
"Yup."
"Spacey's? What's that? Did we go to it today?"
"Um, no Abigail. Spacey's is an all-night dance club. It's the coolest place in Redov. It doesn't exclude minors such as ourselves. We're just watched well about alcohol. It's fun just being there."
"Can I join you?"
"Yeah, I guess. Go home, freshen up, and meet us at my house at 8:30. Kay?"
"Yah. Great! I'll see you later."
When the three reached Ennovy's road, Abigail went one way while Jay and Ennovy went the other to her house. Ennovy led Jay up to her room to show him her newest email.
"Spacey's Dance Club, May 19th. Mission Train." he read. "What do you think it means? Train as in choo-choo?"
"Very profound dialogue."
"I try."
"I have no clue what it means, but going to Spacey's is the way to find out."
"And Abigail is coming."
"Yeah, but whatever. If thousands of vampires show up, we'll let them take her. No loss there."
"You do have a point."
The phone began to ring. Ennovy looked at it. "It better not be Abigail." She picked up the phone "Hello?"
"Hey Ennovy. Long time no speak."
"Cyndi. Hey. I didn't think you'd be home yet."
"Me neither. I complained enough. Mom got so annoyed she took me home. Thank God."
"Great! Now you can come to Spacey's with us tonight."
"Who's the rest of 'us'? Jay?"
"Yeah. And Abigail."
"Oh, I see. Well, I believe I'm free tonight."
"Not the usual fifty cents?"
"Shut up En. I don't know if I'd like to join you now." Cyndi listened to a muffling on the phone. "Ennovy?"
"Dammit Willow, you have to come!"
"Jay? Sick of Abigail already?"
"Yes. Save me."
"But what if she's your Anya?"
"Well, she hasn't shown any vengeful, demonic tendencies....yet."
"There's still a chance."
"Great. Just what we all need. So, you coming or what?"
"When?"
"Tonight."
"If I said 'Duh,' would you see your stupidity? What time?"
"Duh? Like, that is so old. Oh great, you've got me doing it. Um, hold on. En, what time?"
"8:30."
"8:30."
"Yeah, I heard. Okay. I'll be there. I can't wait to meet Abigail."
"I hope you're being sarcastic."
"Sarcasm? What's that?"
"Okay, funny. We'll see you later."
"Kay. Byes."
"Bye. En, say bye."
"Bye Cyndi."
"Bye En."
They both hung up. Jay smiled. "She's coming. Thank God."
"Uh huh. Maybe no one will die tonight."
"Except for Abigail."
"You are terrible. What ever happened to giving her a chance?"
"I changed my mind. Besides, ya know you love it."
"Riiight....what a turn on."
"Yup yup."
Ennovy's ears were alerted by the sound of a doorknob turning. She tilted her head to the side, trying to listen. Then, laughing at herself, she shrugged.
"Um En, you okay?"
"Of course. I was just listening to my mom coming home. She just got in."
"You could hear her? Now that's a gift. Dog-like ears......I hate you."
"You know you love me. Don't lie."
Jay smirked. "Okay. Are you prepared for whatever is in store for you at Spacey's?"
"Lemme see...pointy wooden stick, check...um, anything else? Trusty Xander-like sidekick, check."
"Ha ha. You are so funny."
About forty five minutes later, 8:30 arrived. An immediate and prompt ring of the doorbell followed the final ticks of the clock. Ennovy hurried down the stairs to meet the first arrival. Her mother beat her to it.
"Ennovy, Abigail is here. She says you are going somewhere together."
"Um yeah. Part of the tour."
"Oh Sweetie. See, I told you she's a nice girl. She's in the living room, waiting."
"Okay Mother." Ennovy made her way to the living room. "Hey Abigail. Would you like to come up to my room until Cyndi arrives?"
"I'd love to."
"Okay. Follow me." Ennovy led Abigail to her bedroom. Jay jumped when they entered.
"Dammit En! You scared the crap out of me."
"Yeah. And what were you doing lying on my bed?"
"Resting. We've had a long day, you know."
"I guess."
"Hi Jay." Abigail greeted the scowling Jay.
"Oh, hi Abigail. Long time no see. How's life?"
"Peechy. Yours?"
"Hell as always."
"Abigail smirked. "I doubt it's that bad."
"Well, you don't know the extreme heinousness of my life. So, how could you know? Unless...unless you know what hell is like." Jay stared intently at her.
"Sorry. I guess I know nothing." Abigail fidgeted. "Ooh, doorbell."
"What?"
"Um..."
The doorbell rings.
"Psychic much? That was pretty impressive." Ennovy mused.
"I looked out your window and saw her coming. Nothing special."
"I never saw you turn. The window's behind you."
"God Jay, give her a break. How long have you been staring to know that she never turned?"
"Sorry."
"Just don't be so suspicious of new neighbors. He's not usually like this, Abigail."
"Oh, it's quite alright. New faces can cast suspicions. You guys don't know me well yet."
"Uh huh. So Jay, Abigail, I'm going to go grab Cyndi from downstairs. I'm afraid of what horrible torture tactics my mom may be trying to use on her. When you're completely ready, meet me down there. We'll leave as soon as possible."
"Well, I'm ready. How 'bout you Jay?"
"Um yeah Abigail. Sure."
"Okay then. We'll come now, Ennovy."
"Alright. Let's go."
Abigail hurried down the stairs in front of Jay and Ennovy, expressing how eager she was to meet Cyndi. She ran into the foyer and stopped dead in her tracks when she saw Cyndi.
"Carnegie?"
Cyndi stood up and looked from Abigail to Ennovy and Jay. "Um, you must be mistaken...Abby....It's Cyndi."
"Uh, it's Abigail, but I guess I kinda deserve that in some way. Sorry."
"No problem. It's not like you know me at all." Cyndi stressed.
"Right. Of course I don't know you."
"Well, I guess you figured out that this is Abigail, eh Carnegie?"
"En, not cool."
"Alright, alright. Are we all set to go?"
"Yup yup." Jay grabbed Cyndi's hand. "Let us lead the way."
"Okie Xander."
"Grr."
They all left Ennovy's house, Jay and Cyndi first, followed by Ennovy and Abigail. Barely anything was said all the way to Spacey's.
"We're here." Ennovy announced at the door.
Spacey's is a club inside of a house. From the outside, it looks like the home of a typical Redov family, but inside is excitement and color. By the expression on Abigail's face, Ennovy realized that the girl had assumed the same as every passer-by..
"Dance club? More like my house."
"Well, if the inside of your house looks like this one, we're going there from now on." Jay said as he opened the door to Spacey's.
When Abigail looked inside, the flashing lights, loud music, and clutters of people only led her to sigh an astonished "Wow."
"I know. Now let's go." Ennovy dragged everyone to the pay-man.
"Hey Tom. Four tonight."
"It's always four. Oh, but I see. No Elisa today. She must be dead tired to not want to come party with you guys."
"Something like that. Here's my five and a five for Abigail."
"Here Tom. Mine and Cyndi's"
"Thanks guys. Stick out your hands so I can stamp ya's."
Everyone reached their hands to Tom who stamped a taco on each of them.
"Heh. Taco. Running out of ideas?"
"Just go in and party, Jay."
"You know it. C'mon girls. I'll be your studly escort."
"You wish! Have fun!"
"Adios Tom."
Abigail giggled. "You know the door man?"
"Uh huh. I'm tellin' ya, there's no one in this town." Jay laughed as he pulled her into the dancing madness.
The four began party dancing to the Foo Fighters 'Learn To Fly.' After that, Britney Spears's 'Stronger' came on, and they continued to dance with eachother. Eventually, after a few more songs, the four decided to grab an open table to rest at for a little while.
"That is insane! I feel blinded and have such an earache, but this is so much fun!" Abigail shouted over the music.
"I know. That's why we come here all the time." Ennovy screamed back.
"Definitely! Cyndi, I see you're still hyper. Wanna go dance some more?"
"Sure Abigail. I love this song."
Abigail and Cyndi stood and walked to the rest of the dancers.
"So, what do you think of Abigail, Jay?"
"She's alright for a rich girl. But, it's only today."
Suddenly, Jay shuddered and his eyes darted towards a far corner of the club. "Oh crap!"
"What Jay/ Did you see something?"
"I'd say so. Pale, pointy teeth. And really greasy hair."
"Okay. Hair comment not important, but I gotta go. Where?"
"Left corner door. And I'm coming."
"Geez. Don't get so excited."
"Shut up. Let's go. I can help."
"Okay."
Ennovy and Jay hurriedly rose from the table and headed towards the door. When they got to it, Ennovy opened it and rushed inside.
"Ooops...bad move."
"I concur."
Ennovy and Jay looked around at about ten vampires all throughout the back room.
"Ready to tango, girl? Ooops was right." One vampire with a scar across his face snarled.
"Why is it that no one thinks I'm ever ready? Of course I'm ready, you silly vampire, you. I'm the Protector. Ennovy the vampire slayer. And this is enough talk." Ennovy tossed a stake straight at the vampire; immediately afterwards, he was dust. "Who's next?"
The nine vampires turned towards Ennovy and Jay completely and bgan to attack.
"Right. Put on your happy faces boys cuz this'll be the last time you'll ever have to use 'em." Ennovy grabbed two more stakes out of her back pockets and tossed one to Jay. "Learn to use it, Jay."
Ennovy leaped over the closest vamp to her and kicked him from the back. The blow to his neck sent him to the ground where she easily dusted him.
She turned to see Jay fly past her; he had just been thrown by the vampire he had seen before. She began to go after the vampire until she was hit from behind by another one.
"Ow. That hurt, Ass!" Ennovy karate chopped the leg of a table next to her off and thrusted it into the vampire, killing him. "I can't believe I just used karate." she commented as she dusted her third vampire of the rendevouz. She turned her head to watch Jay stake another one. "Way to go Jay!" she cheered as she once again caught a vampire with a table leg.
Then, all of a sudden, a vamp threw Jat at Ennovy. After knocking her to the ground, Jay moaned as he rolled off of Ennovy.
"Hey! No one messes with my friends." Ennovy stood up and glared at two vampires. Looking to her left, she spotted an old pool table stick. "Perfect." The vamps watched her carefully as she eyed the sticks. 'There's no way for me to get those fast enough. If only.....if only I had telekinetic powers which I just happen to have.' She paused. 'Think telekinetic thoughts..." Ennovy swatted her arm from the sticks to the vampires, sending them with her mind to form a heinous villain shishkabob. She laughed aloud. "I'm good at this game." She reached down to help Jay up. "C'mon Jay, only three left."
"Okay. Let's finish this." Jay threw his stake at a vampire who was charging at him. "Yeah! So dead!"
Ennovy smirked as she severed the head of the eighth vampire with a pizza pie plate. "What a fragile neck." She cocked her head to the side. "Well, look at what we have left. Vampire #1. Hi!"
The vampire continued to stare at her, snarling. He paused for an instant and smiled. Ennovy shifted her weight from foot to foot, trying to anticipate his next move. His next move involved Jay. The vampire sprang for Jay's throat and held him up against a wall. Ennovy ran up to vampire #1 and grabbed his shoulders to get him off of Jay.
"Let go of my best friend!" she screamed at him. Suddenly, electricity sparked from her fingers causing her to spring backwards from the jolt that she and the vampire felt.
The vampire turned around and stared, astonished, at Ennovy. He looked around for someone else. "What the...who's there? Who bit her?"
"What the hell do you mean? Us three are the only ones here!" she felt herself snap. Confused, she put her hands to her face. Then, she turned to a mirror on the back wall. She stared in horror at her own angry face and pointed canines. "I'm a vampire? How is that possible?"
"Someone killed the Protector and made her into a vampire." He smiled. "Alright!"
Jay struggled to breathe correctly and managed to say "En. No. This can't be happening."
"Welcome to the vampire side of the non-life, Protector. Can't you feel the evil flowing through your veins. It's awesome, right?"
"Um....yeah....sure. And do you want to know what the best part is? She smiled evily.
"Definitely."
"The fact that you have no idea what a Protector is capable of. I haven't been bitten at all which means one of my powers is kicking in." The vampire stared at her, frightened. "The power to look like something else. And now I kill you, one who is obviously confused."
Jay tossed her his stake, and she stabbed the vampire. The vampire died.
"En, you totally had me fooled. I was so upset and terrified that you were gone forever. Or evil forever."
"I was nervous for a few seconds too, but then I remembered my conversation with Seaver. I get to do cool things."
"Yeah, like telekinesis and shape shifting. It's pretty cool."
"Pretty cool? It's completely awesome!"
"Okay, okay. Definitely jealousy material. So, can I touch it?"
"Ummm..."
"Your face?"
"Oh. I guess."
Jay reached his hand to her face and stroked it. "Crazy cool. How are you going to de-vamp?"
"I don't have a clue." She put her own hands to her face, and then took them away. "Better?"
"Wow. That worked. You look like your normal self."
"Good." She smiled "Now, my only power left is the ESFs. I can't wait for that one."
"You'll really be able to do some damage."
"Oh yeah!"
"So, I guess Mission Train was Mission Practice."
"Yes. And Mission Successful. I bet I'll have an email when I get home. By the way, what time is it? Curfew doesn't disintegrate just because I'm out with Abigail."
"It's 9:00. Half hour to go."
"Well, maybe we should go back to the party. Abigail and Cyndi are probably desperately trying to find us."
"Yeah, let's go. But, I just have one question. How'd you suddenly know how to use your powers?"
"I must have found the key. What it is, I have no idea. Maybe anger. Everything worked when I was angry. All I know is that I got to use 'em, and they were effective."
"You may be right about the abger thing. We'll have to test it. Sometime."
"Okay. Now, let's find the others."
Ennovy and Jay left the back room and went to the table they had been at before. Abigail and Cyndi were not there. They scanned the areas near them for the girls. Jay looked at Ennovy and shrugged.
"Looking for us?" Cyndi said as she and Abigail walked over to them.
"Of course. Where were you?"
"Dancing. And the bathroom."
"Do you know how long that line is? And for such appaling facilities." Abigail grimaced.
They laughed.
"So, were you guys waiting here for us the whole time?" Cyndi asked.
"No, of course not." Jay replied. "We danced some too."
"Oh. Okay."
"Well, are you guys ready to leave? I have to be home in about fifteen minutes or so." Ennovy interrupted.
"Sure. I'm danced enough." Cyndi grabbed her jacket.
"Me too." Abigail stood.
"Okay then. Let's start walking."
The four walked to the exit.
"Bye Tom!" Ennovy called as they left Spacey's. "Tom is the best."
"En, you are so weird."
"I know Cyndi, I know."
They continued to walk until they reached Barker Avenue.
"This is where I exit the group. I'll see you guys later." Cyndi waved.
"Bye bye Cyndi!"
Ennovy, Jay, and Abigail walked on until they made it to Svell Street. Jay's street.
"Adios Jay. I'll update you on any emails I receive."
"Okay En. See ya. Bye Abigail." Jay left. Abigail waved.
"It's just you and me now, Abigail."
"I had a pleasant day, Ennovy. Your friends are....quaint."
"Quaint? You really like them."
"Oh, of course I like them.....they're just not my usual types."
"Riiight. I understand."
"Don't get me wrong, Ennovy. You all are cute and all, but I'm just used to class."
"Well, isn't that a shame then. Apparently we have no class. You're looking in the wrong place for classy friends."
"Ennovy, you can change."
"Oh my daft! I can change? I won't change for anybody, least of all your sorry self. Maybe you could have your mom buy you some friends with class. Gee, our road. We have to split up now. Too bad. I'll see you around. Bye Abby!" Ennovy turned away from Abigail and headed towards her house.
Abigail grinned. "We weren't meant to be friends anyway, Ennovy Skrey." She mumbled. "Goodbye for now." Abigail turned to her respective direction and went home.
*****
Up in her room, Ennovy quickly looked to her computer. Today, it wasn't on.
"That's strange. Why don't I have mail?" she frowned. "Maybe tomorrow. Atleast I made curfew." Then, Ennovy heard a creak. She paused and listened carefully. She then quickly turned to her closet. Ennovy grabbed a stake from her sock drawer and walked to the closet door. She opened it and held up the stake.
Someone screamed from inside the closet. "Oh my God, Ennovy! Don't hurt me! I'm not a vampire!" A familiar, short haired blonde emerged from her closet, extremely frightened.
"Then what are you? And why are you in my closet?"
"Technically, I' human. But, I was chosen by a certain Organization to be a Mailer Daemon. They trained me for months to be as stealthy as possible. I happen to have a cold today which is the only reason you found me and why I haven't finished my job."
"I thought a Mailer Daemon was the thing that emailed you about an unknown email address. Not a real demon."
"Where do you think they got the name from? I'm not a demon, just an especially trained human."
"So you leave me those emails? The helpful hints? The psychicness?"
"Yes. They needed some way to contact you and give you instructions."
"Why couldn't Seaver just tell me?"
"Part of his whole Guide thing is that he has to lead you without any major help from the Organization."
"Makes sense." Ennovy stared at the girl. "Do I know you? Do you go to my school? You look so familiar."
"You don't remember me? You saved my life, obviously saving yours in the process."
Ennovy thought for a moment. Then, she recalled the blonde being chased by that vampire. "That was you? I saved your life already?"
"Yes. And without me, you may not have went to Spacey's tonight where a mass slaughter of every person inside that club would have occured."
"Wow. It really makes you think. Thank you...."
"Meg. Meg Paloma. Since we know each other now, you can call me Meggie. And, I guess this is for you. There is no point in me emailing it to you." Meggie held a sheet of paper out to Ennovy. "I must be on my way. Oh, and I do go to your school. Maybe we'll see eachother. Maybe even become friends."
"I would like that Meggie. Thank you. Good bye."
"Bye."
Ennovy watched Meggie leap out her window. She ran over to it to watch the girl roll, stand, and begin to run immediately.
"Stealthy. Heh." She smiled and opened her letter:
"Seaver. May 20th. Mission Update."
"Special. Very straight forward. I guess Seaver has an update for me. Woohoo?"
"Ennovy, honey?" Ennovy's mom knocked on the door. "How was your day?"
"Superb. I had fun until I learned that my friends and I have no class."
"Oh dear. Who said that?"
"Abigail."
"No....maybe you took more out of it than she meant."
"I doubt it. She's not used to small town friends."
"This is not good. I guess I have bad news for you."
"Great. What happened? Is she moving in with us or something?"
"No, no. But, Annabelle just called to reinvite us to her husband's 'welcome home' party. Originally, your father and I were planning on going, but she called to tell us that Sal's plans were moving along wuicker than expected. The party is this Friday, the 25th, instead of June 1st. That's the day of the PTA Buffalo trip. Your father and I were scheduled to go to study the school systems of Buffalo schools. We already paid for our seats on the bus."
"Which means that you can't go to the party. How is that bad news?"
"Well, before I knew that you and Abigail were less friends, I told Annabelle that you would go to represent the family."
"Err.....I guess I'm going."
"Oh sweetie. That is so gracious of you. You make me so happy. Now get some sleep. I have to go to work early tomorrow, but your father has off. Maybe you two can bond or something."
"Right. We'll go fishing. Goodnight mom. Tell dad the same."
"About fishing?"
"Don't you get smart with me. I love you."
"I love you too. Nighty night Ennovy."
"Ennovy's mom left and shut the door. Ennovy walked over to her computer, half expecting it to be on. 'Right. I already have the message from Meggie.' She shook her head at her forgetfulness and went back to her ned. She climbed in and turned off her lights.
*****
Ennovy awoke the next morning to a pair of hands shaking her shoulder. She grabbed one and twisted it.
"Ennovy! Let go!"
"Oh my God! Dad! I'm so sorry."
He laughed while rubbing his wrist. "I'm just wondering who you thought I was."
"Not who, what." she murmured.
"What?"
"Nothing. Um, why are you in here? Mom didn't seriously tell you to take me fishing, did she?"
"Fishing? No, of course not. I've never been much of a fisherman. But, she did suggest father-daughter bonding. We never talk. Ever. I'm lucky I know that you're sixteen. You're still friends with Cyndi, Jay, and Elisa, right?"
"Mostly."
"Ummm, okay. Any other friends I should know about?"
"Well, I made a new friend yesterday, Megge Paloma. She's really cool and nice. I never knew she existed until yesterday. And Abigail started as a friendly person, but in her case, you'd be correct if you judged the book by its cover."
"Ah. Stuck up. I see. So, going to the party is going to be torture for you, huh?"
"Maybe. We'll see what happens before Friday."
"Do you think she'll come around?"
"I highly doubt it. She coulda been a cool friend too."
"Hm. Well, enough of Abigail talk. You can do that with your friends. What would you like to do today? Something only you and I could do." He paused for a moment and then smiled. "How about we go visit your Aunt Cheryl?"
"That's perfect! Mom can't stand Aunt Cheryl! That's definitely something only you and I could do!" She stood up quickly. "When can we go?"
"As soon as you get dressed. So hurry up." He left Ennovy's room and shut her door behind him.
'Aunt Cheryl. Mom always hated her ever since she was admitted into the clinic for drug abusers. What a bad influence on me. But dad and I know what a good person she was.....and is now. She'll be so happy to see us.'
Ennovy took a quick shower and got dressed. She then hurried down the stairs to greet her waiting father.
"Hey hey dad! I'm ready!"
He smiled. "Great. C'mon. Let's go see my sister."
They got into the family silver Ford Taurus and headed to the Ainema Drug and Alcohol Abuse Recovery Center. Only a ten minute drive. They arrived at the center just in time for lunch hour.
"Hello. I'm Christopher Skrey. My daughter and I are here to visit Cheryl Skrey. Is she ready for us?"
"I believe she's in her room. You may go visit her."
"Thank you."
Ennovy's dad took her hand and led her to the room. Cheryl was sitting up in her bed, panicked.
"Cheryl? Cheryl, what's the matter?" Christopher Skrey was intensely worried about his sister.
"Keep it away! It'll hurt me!" She grabbed Ennovy and held her on the bed. "Kill it! You know what to do! Save me!" she shrieked.
"Ennovy!" Her dad reached towards her, but Cheryl backed away. "I'll go get a doctor. Be careful."
"Hurry, dad."
Christopher Skrey practically ran out of the room. Ennovy looked at the terrified expression on her Aunt's face.
"Aunt Cheryl, tell me what you see. Where is it?" Ennovy coaxed.
"It's the size of a puppy. A-a-and it's pink. But it's not cute and friendly. I found out the hard way." She held out her arm which had a bleeding 2-inch scratch. "It doesn't hurt that bad." She smiled. "Save me please, Ennovy."
"Where is it?" She repeated.
"Right there." Cheryl pointed to a box in the corner of the room. "It's.....right.......there."
Ennovy looked at her Aunt. "You have to let me go if you want me to go kill it."
Cheryl nodded her head and loosened her grip.
"Thank you." Ennovy stood up and looked at the still box.
"Go get it! Hurry!"
She walked up to the box.
"Shh! It'll come after you."
Ennovy sighed. 'There's probably nothing under there. She just saw the box and imagined a monster.' She crouched down and put her hands on the box. Quickly, she lifted it off the ground. She smiled. "Aunt Cheryl, there's nothing here."
Cheryl screamed as a little pink monster leaped out of the box. It had been in the box, not under it. The monster landed on Ennovy's head.
"Oh my God!" She smacked it with her hands and it hit the floor. "What the hell?!"
It scrambled to its feet and went after Ennovy's leg. She was too stunned to move. It opened its tiny mouth to reveal thousands of sharp teeth. It clamped down on her ankle. She wailed and frantically shook her leg until the creature was thrown against the wall. It shrieked. Ennovy tried to run over to it but found herself limping, running half-heartedly. She kicked it with her good leg, sending the monster into a mop bucket filled with water. Ennovy limped over to it as quickly as possible and pushed down the little pink creature. She held it under water by the top of its head. Its short neck prevented it from being able to bite her. She kept her grip and the pink monster drowned. Immediately after the creature died, it disappeared, as if it had not existed in the first place.
"Ennovy!" her Aunt called to her.
She hurried to Cheryl and hugged her. "Are you okay, Aunt Cheryl?"
"I'm perfectly fine, Enny. I knew you could save me. I felt it. Thank you so much. I love you my sweet, brave Enny."
"I love you too, Aunt Cheryl."
Ennovy's dad entered, quickly followed by two doctors and a nurse.
Doctor #1 spoke first in a deep, proffessional voice and manner. "Cheryl, what's wrong? Your brother tells me that you were in a crazed state."
"Oh......no.....It must have been a vivid nightmare I was having. I had no idea that I was doing anything besides dreaming. Even ask my Enny."
"She's definitely telling the truth. A minute after my dad left for help, she awoke completely, asked me what had happened, and then apologized. She was unaware of anything she had done or said. And I would have called my dad back in, but he was already to far away, and I didn't want to disturb anyone."
"Are you sure sweetheart?"
"Of course, dad."
"Well, even thought this does seem like a typical nightmare situation, we'd prefer if you'd both leave your Aunt for the day. She should get some rest. We would like to make sure that she's completely okay."
"Alright. We'll be gone in a second. We'll just say goodbye."
"Thank you, Mr.Skrey." Doctor #2 shook Ennovy's dad's hand and left behind Doctor #1 and the silent Nurse.
"Are you sure you're just fine, Cheryl? Where'd you get that nast scratch from?"
"Oh, you know me....well, atleast now you do..." she smiled. "Vivid dreams lead to accidents. Don't worry about me Christopher. I can handle myself....most of the time." She winked at Ennovy.
"It's the 'most of the time' that frightens me."
"Dad. She's peachy. Let's let her be." Ennovy walked over to her Aunt and kissed her forehead. "Goodbye Aunt Cheryl. We'll definitely come to visit you again. And maybe Mom'll come next time."
"I wouldn't want to torture her like that." Cheryl smiled. "It was very sweet of you both to come visit me. Thank you."
"You are very welcome." Christopher Skrey hugged his sister. "You rest, okay? Goodbye Cheryl."
"Bye bye guys." Cheryl waved as Ennovy and her father left.
The two left the building and went to the car. They climbed in and went straight home. They arrived at home at 1:35.
"Well Ennovy, did you have fun in that short amount of time you were with your Aunt?"
"A little. It was great to see her again. Um, are we done bonding for today?"
"If you'd like to be, then sure."
"Cool. I just kinda have an appointment to meet someone in the park, and I'd prefer to go as soon as possible."
"Okay. Don't stay out late. You know your curfew."
I won't make that mistake again anytime soon." Ennovy shuddered. "I'll be home. Early."
