This band plays Canadian Style, Traditional Irish and Celtic Folk Music in Saskatchewan Canada. The Horse's Mouth started out in February 1998 at the Englefeld Hotel Mini-Telemiracle Talent night. At that point the only members were Andy McAnally, and Bob Henderson. After a rousing reception and $1300.00 in the kitty towards Telemiracle, they decided to stick together and do a few more tunes.
Margaret Henderson decided she wanted in on the action, so she took up the penny whistle. In June they were busking on the streets of Humboldt on behalf of the St. Elizabeth Hospital foundation, when Dave Martinuk ambled over and gave them a listen. It only took one invitation and Dave pedaled home on his bicycle to get his fiddle. Since then, the group has spent many happy hours rehearsing and getting to know one another.
Andy is Irish, having arrived here some 6 years ago. He married a Canadian girl, Cathy, whom he met while he was posted in Canada. Fortunately for us, has decided to make Canada his home. It has been his inspiration and love of the music of his native land that has steered the group's direction. We play many traditional Irish jigs and reels, folk music and East Coast Celtic music plus a smattering of a wide variety of other tunes deemed appropriate for the occasion.
Some of our past performances include the Irish Pavilion at the Saskatoon Folk Fest for three years, Telemiracle 1999 and 2000, Celtic Winter Festival, Regina, many benefit performances in the Humboldt area, Govan Fiddle Festival, Summerfest in Humboldt, the Doghide Festival in Tisdale, 3 years at the Saskatoon Jazz Festival, Wadena Arts Council, Watrous Arts Council, McNally-Robinson Bookstore Lounge and McNally's Pub in Regina, as well as many senior citizens halls, nursing homes and town halls around Saskatchewan. We continue to play all around the area, even after 11 years together having fun!!!
In August of 2001 we released our first CD, Straight From. It has sold well in the local area and songs from the CD have been played several times on CBC radio.
