**ONE YEAR LATER**
Howie and Rain walked into the doctor's office, along with Brian and
Lauren.
The guys didn't know why Rain and Lauren had insisted that they come with
them on the
trip to what Brian jokingly referred to as 'the girls-only' doctor. The
girls went back to
the examining rooms together, and about 10 minutes later, they came back out,
following
the doctor, and walked through another door to the lab. Blood was taken from
both
Lauren and Rain to run some basic tests.
As they all walked out the door together, the doctor called, "I should
have both of
your sets of results in the morning."
"Okay, thank you," Rain said as they left.
The next morning Rain got a phone call from Lauren. It was only 8:02 in
the
morning, and Howie was still sleeping in the next room. Even though, Lauren
whispered
that they should go down to the doctor's office together to get their
results. Rain agreed
and hung up. She wrote a note to Howie, telling him where she had gone, and
left.
About an hour later, Rain walked back through the door, a huge smile on
her face.
Howie came over to her, gave her a kiss, and said, "So what were the results?"
"I can't tell you yet," Rain said with a mischievous smile as she headed
to the
phone to call Lauren, Amy, Angel, and Jade.
Yet one more hour later, Rain and Howie's living room was filled with
people.
Lauren, Brian, Jade, Kevin, A.J., Angel, Amy, and Nick all sat around the
living
room. "Okay, what's this all about?" Brian asked with a curious look.
"Well, Rain and I have a surprise for you all," Lauren answered.
"Okay, go for it." Jade said with a smile. She looked at Angel and Amy,
who also
instantly got smiles on their faces as well.
"Well . . . Lauren and I . . . wanted to tell you that we're . . ,"
"We're what?" Howie and Brian said. They were both getting really
concerned.
"We're pregnant!" Lauren and Rain yelled excitedly.
There was a split-second of silence, and in that silence, Howie said,
"Are you
sure?"
"Yep. That's why I couldn't tell you the results of my bloodwork when I
got
home. I would have ruined the surprise," Rain said.
There were loads of congratulatory hugs and kisses around the room as
everyone
totally flattered the two mothers-to-be. Howie wrapped Rain in the biggest
hug that she
had ever gotten in her life. Brian and Lauren did the same. They hadn't
known that
when they all met 4 years earlier that any of their lives would be as happy
as they now
were.
That night, after all of their visitors had gone, Howie and Rain went to
bed. In the
darkness, they began to talk . . .
"So how many little ones do you have in there?"
"I don't know yet."
"Oh. If its only one, can we try to get another one?"
"Very funny, but yes we can, after he or she is born."
"What are we gonna name our baby?"
"We have to find out whether it will be boy or girl first, honey."
"I'll have to take some time off from touring so that I can build the
nursery."
"I know. I will have to do the same thing."
"Well you can take the time off, but you're not building the nursery.."
"Why not?"
"Well, I don't want you do to anything that would hurt my new son or
daughter."
"Oh."
"Know what?"
"What?"
"I love you, Rain Aliana Dorough"
"I love you too, Howard Dwaine Dorough.
