"Hey Jade. Time to get up. We're gonna be late!" I yelled at my best
friend.
"But Rain," Jade complained.
"NOW!" I yelled as I pulled her up off of the fold-out couch bed.
Sleepily, Jade
stumbled to her feet. I knew what would get her going. The radio! I leaned
over, hit the 'PLAY' button, and a song by the Backstreet Boys began to play.
"I Want It That Way" was its title.
"Hey. What time are we supposed to meet Amy, Angel, and Lauren?" Jade
yelled from my bathroom. Jade and I had been friends since pre-school, and
now Jade practically lived at my house with me. We were supposed to be
meeting our friends and going camping. Jade and I had known Amy, Angel, and
Lauren since 11th grade, so the 5 of us were practically sisters.
"Well, I just got off the phone with Amy. She and Lauren are going to
pick Angel
up, and then they're coming here. You know they have to follow us there, and
they'll be here within an hour," I called.
Jade came out of the bathroom, fully-clothed and ready to go.
Together,
we
lugged our camping stuff out to my black Jeep Wrangler. I was just about
ready to go, when the phone rang.
"Hello?" I said.
"Rain? This is Lauren. I'm on my cell phone, and we're almost to your
house. I
wanted to know if you were going to bring your guitar with you?"
"I hadn't planned on it, but I guess so."
"Okay, cool. I was hoping that we'd get to hear you play."
"Thanx Lauren. See ya in a few."
"Yep. See ya later!"
We hung up. I turned to Jade and said, "Well, I guess I have to bring it
now."
"Bring what? Oh, your guitar?"
"Yeah. I know I sound bad, but what else can I do? They'll be mad at me
if I don't bring it!"
"You don't sound bad at all. I mean, considering that you taught
yourself how to play with the guitar Howie threw to you at the concert, its kinda your
good luck
charm! Besides, you know you should play the Backstreet Boys songs.
You know they'll go over like totally awesome!"
She was right. Lauren, Angel, Amy, Jade, and I were major 'Backstreet
Boys'
freaks. They are another reason that the 5 of us are such good friends. We
met at a
concert the summer after my 1st year of college. This was the concert that
Howie had thrown his guitar to me. I was in the 2nd row, so I had caught it
easily.
There was a honk outside. I ran out the door behind Jade, with my guitar
(which
Howie autographed, by the way-complete with that smiley-face thingie that he
always puts by his signature) slung over my shoulder. Locking the door
behind me, we were on our way.
Nick and A.J. grumbled as Kevin rolled them out of their beds.
"What do
you
want?" Nick sighed, still half asleep.
"We're here!" Howie yelled from the front of the bus.
"With Brian's driving, I'm not surprised!" A.J. mumbled. They all went
to the
front of the BSB tour bus. It had stopped beside an old log cabin. There
were five
smaller ones that lined the woods' edge. Everyone slowly got off of the bus
and went
into the main cabin.
"There's one campsite left. Its up on the hill, by the lake," the old
man said.
"We want it," Brian told him.
"Now, you're sure that there will not be anyone else up there buggin' us,
right?"
Nick asked.
"Positive. The only other campers here for this week are a group of
girls. Five of
them, but their camp is a good bit away from yours," the man smiled.
"Great, but if we need anything. are they within easy walking distance?"
Howie
questioned.
The man nodded his head. "In fact, they're already on the trail. If you
hurry, you
may catch them, and they can show you where your camp is."
"Cool," was the unanimous reply.
Brian went back outside and parked the bus behind the main cabin, so that
no fans happening by would find it. The guys then unloaded their things,
locked up the bus, and headed out onto the trail.
Night was beginning to creep onto the horizon as the girls and guys both
made it
to their camps. Rain and Amy built a large fire as Jade, Lauren, and Angel
put up the tents. The 5 girls could hear other people out on the trail to
the other campsite, which was only about 300 yards from theirs.
Kevin had a nice fire going before the other guys had finished their
tents.
Looking into the forest, A.J. saw a faint glow of another fire burning. They
all became
quiet, and it was then that they heard a guitar's melody coming from the same
direction.
"Hehe. I'm gonna go guitar-huntin'," A.J. smiled as he headed into the
woods.
"Wait up, A.J.!" Brian, Nick, and Howie called, each taking off after him.
Nick noticed someone was missing. He told the others to wait up, then he
went
back to camp, where Kevin was still building the fire.
"You comin', Kev?" he asked.
"Yeah. I'm just getting our fire going," Kevin answered, dropping the
last log
into the blaze and silently running to where Howie, A.J., and Brian waited.
