About The Troupe:

Shatta Theatre Troupe is an independent company, based in Cairo Egypt that was founded in 2005. The troupe was founded as an umbrella for Director Nada Sabet to create works under, inviting many professionals from the theatrical scene in Cairo, the Arab world and the Mediterranean.

Shatta always aims at working with a diverse multi cultural team, creating networks and sharing experiences with young professionals in the world today, to strengthen ties and help enrich each others’ careers.

In the past two years, the Troupe has created two theatrical pieces & is currently working on a third project, a collaboration with individuals and groups from Morocco, Belgium, France and Egypt.

The Troupe combines mediums & human elements to create a coherent theatrical piece. The Troupe has used improvisation as a method to create performances that are self-conscious & socially critical in an attempt to create a forum for re-evaluation & criticism of the state of affairs.

As a Troupe based in Egypt, Shatta's work has primarily been related to current occurrences in Egypt, but are not necessarily specific to Egypt. Thematically & stylistically, the Troupe has created a look & feel to the performances that are accessible to a broader audience..
