The 1984-85 Warriors include left to right, back row, Steve Vukich, Randy Reese, Mike Kuhanen, Jason Swartz, John Barren, Don Berliner, Mark Muell,
front row, Jeff Lynch, Rick Rote, Rick Emerson, Bret Oberg, Dwain Peters, Ed Stoebner, and Pat Snyder.
Under veteran boys basketball coach Bill Carll, the 1984-85 Warriors had a tough luck season finishing 3-7 in league play, and 9-12 for the season. Warriors Suffer First Losing Season Since 1979
Juniors Lynch and Oberg Named co-MVP's
For Tehachapi, it was the first losing season in league play since 1971, and the first overall losing record (9-12) since 1979.
The Warriors were a respectable 6-5 in pre-league play, highlighted by the participation in two tournaments. In the annual Kern County Tournament in
Bakersfield, the Warriors captured the Consolation Championship. Tehachapi lost to Wasco in the opening round, but rallied to defeat
both Monache and Burroughs to claim the hardware. Junior Bret Oberg scored 44 points in the tournament and was named to the all-tournament team.
In the annual Bishop Tournament, Tehachapi finished 1-2, defeating the Bishop junior varsity for their only win.
Again, Oberg was named to the all-tournament team for the Warriors.
In league play, the Warriors earned three victories, defeating Mojave once and hapless Kern Valley twice. Bishop won the
DIL Large Schools Division, advancing to the post-season playoffs.
Juniors Jeff Lynch and Bret Oberg were named the co-Most Valuable Players of the team by the coaching staff.
