Vic McElroy was the head coach of the Warrior basketball program for eight years from 1963-64 until 1970-71. During that period, his teams had a collective record of 53-48 in Desert-Inyo League play and 83-83 overall. His best team was in 1966-67 when the Warriors won his only DIL championship, going 12-1 in league play. The 1966-67 Warrior team lost in the first round of the playoffs, in triple overtime, to the eventual CIF 1A champions Nordhoff High School of Ojai.
McElroy came to the Tehachapi Unified School District in 1957. Prior to Tehachapi, McElroy earned a BS Degree from the University of Wyoming in Physical Education. In 1951, he took time out from his studies to serve a four-year stay in the US Air Force as a physical therapy technician. McElroy worked for one year in Big Piney, Wyoming, before moving to Tehachapi with his wife Marjorie and daughter Beverly.
McElroy retired from the Tehachapi Unified School District after working 29 years in a variety of academic and athletic positions. McElroy passed away in 1986, at 57 years of age.
