THE WHITEHEAD INSTITUTE (Richard Young Lab -- Boston, MA)
Fall 1998 - Summer 2000. Research position, as part of the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP) at MIT, investigating gene expression in Yeast.
MIT BIOLOGY DEPARTMENT: Genetics Teacher's Aid (Cambridge, MA)
Fall 2000 - Spring 2001. Served as a TA for two groups of 20 students each for the undergraduate Genetics course. The teaching sections were a supplement to lectures; the purpose was to explain complicated concepts and demonstrate how to solve Genetics problems.

INTERNATIONAL CENTRE FOR GENETIC ENGINEERING AND BIOTECHNOLOGY
Summer 1998, Trieste, Italy. Full time intern. Worked, with a post-doctoral fellow, on genetic recombination in Yeast. The purpose of the project was to try and investigate the influence of different gene domains on the efficiency of gene targeting in yeast (S. Cerevisiae).
Summer 1996, Trieste, Italy. Full time lab aide in the microbiology lab. Worked on my IB project dealing with bacterial resistance to antibiotics. Learned many of the general lab procedures and techniques.

Member of: Biology Undergraduate Students Association, Biomedical Engineering Society, International Students Association, National Society for Black Engineers, Black Women's Alliance, Black Students Union, McCormick Hall IM volleyball team. Vice President of the African Students Association (since spring 1999), Undergraduate Representative of the Arab Students Organization (since spring 1998).
Fall 1996 - Fall 1997. Member of the varsity basketball and volleyball teams, delegate in the Model United Nations, member of the National Honor's Society and the French Honor's Society.
Fall 1995 - Spring 1996. Member of the varsity volleyball team.
Fall 1994 - Spring 1995. Member of the JV basketball team. Member (and founder) of the Drama Club.

Honors/Awards
Spring 1997. Outstanding Achievement awards in IB Chemistry and IB French, Top 10 Scholar Award, Valedictorian of the graduating class of 1997.
Spring 1996. Outstanding Achievement awards in: IB French, IB 20th Century History and IB Chemistry. Top 10 Scholar Award.
