The Goa'uld and other alien races on Stargate took on the personas of many Ancient Egyptian gods and goddesses and other deities from
other cultures. Here is a list of what the deities were really supposed to be like. Sources are listed at the bottom.

ASGARD, ASGARTH, AESIR
|
Norse, Germanic. Asgard was not a God, but it was the abode of the Norse Gods. It had luxurious halls and palaces, and the Norse
Gods, including Thor, lived there.

ANUBIS, ANPU, YINEPU
|
Egyptian, Greek, Roman. He was created from Osiris' affair with Nephthys. Anubis was associated with the underworld
because he prepared the dead and led them to it. He was portayed with the head of a jackal.

APOPHIS, APEP
|
Egyptian, Greek. The meaning of his name is unclear, although the Romans thought it translated to "He Who is Spat Out." He is considered
to be a part of the universe along with Netjer, but he is the part that seeks out destruction and dissolution. Sometimes, writers in ancient
writings say he is "an evil serpent," but that is not the same as the devil in Christianity. He is very powerful, and people usually avoided
talking about him to keep him away.

BAAL
|
Semitic, Phoenician, Syrian, Persian, etc.. Baal means "master" or "owner." Early on, the name was used for the sun, lord, or god. The
first god named 'Baal' was worshipped in the 14th century BCE. It has been used as the common name of several deities in Persian and
Syrian religions, but Baal is still commonly known as a Canaanite fertility god, who was also the son of El, the high god of Canaan. Baal is
even mentioned in the Bible as Beelzebub, or Baalzebub, one of the fallen angels of Satan.

CHRONUS, CRONUS, KRONOS, SATURN
|
Greek, Roman. Chronus was the ruler of the Titans, the race that gave birth to the gods in ancient Greek and Roman mythology.
Chronus is believed to be 'Time,' and is supposed to look like a huge serpent with the heads of a bull, a lion, and Erebus. One day, Chronus
was told that one of his own children would take him off throne, so instead of letting this happen Chronus decided to eat all of his children.
His wife didn't like this, so when Zeus was born, she gave her husband a rock wrapped in a blanket. He ate it, believing it to be his own son.
When Zeus was old enough, he rebelled against his father and his fathers' brothers, freed his siblings, and they became the Olympian Gods.

HATHOR, HETHERT, HET-HERET, HET-HERU
|
Egyptian, Greek, Roman. Hathor was the known as women's protector and as the goddess of joy and love and the patroness of all women, artists,
music and dance, and happiness. She is sometimes worshipped as a sky goddess. Hathor is portrayed with a crown that is a sun disk held
between a cow's horns. She is usually present in Egyptian tombs to ensure the owner's safe passage into the after life.

HERU-UR, HER-WER, HAR-WER, HAROERIS
|
Egyptian, Greek, Roman. "Great Heru/Heru the Elder." Heru's original form was a hawk and was depicted as a celestial or solar divinity, but later
on his hawk and himself were associated with being a king. He was the brother of Wesier and the opposite of Seth.

IMHOTEP, IMOTHPH, IMOUTHIS
|
Egyptian, Greek, Roman. With a name meaning "peace," he is the son of Ptah and Sekhmet and is also known as the god of science or medicine.
He was the counselor/physician to the founder of Egypt's third dynasty, Zoser.

ISIS, ISITIS, MUT, ASET, AUSET, ESE
|
Egyptian, Greek. "Isitis" means "Earth" or "corn-bearing Land." Isis is also known as the "the mother of all creation." Her parents are Geb and
Nut, and she was father to Osiris, her husband and brother. She eventually became universally worshipped and is associated with motherhood,
devotion in marriage, love, eternal life, and also with the casting of spells or charms. She is also the goddess of day. Her symbol is the tyet,
an amulet. She gave birth to Horus.

NURRTI

OSIRIS, SERAPIS, WESIR, AUSAR
|
Egyptian. Also worshipped in Rome and Greece, Osiris was the judge of the deaad in the underworld. One of his names, "Serapis,"
means "underworld." He was the first child of Geb and Hut and the husband of Isis. Later on, he is killed by
his jealous brother, Set. He is portrayed with the head of a bull.

RA, RE, AMUN, AMON, AMUN-RA, AMEN-RA, ZEUS-AMMON, JUPITER-AMMON
|
Egyptian, Greek. Ra was the god of fertility, and during the Theban dynasites, he was the king of the gods. He was also the sun god, and was
pictured as a child in early morning, a young man in the afternoon, and an old man in the evening. During the night, he traveled through
the underworld and was reborn at sunrise. He, Mut, and Khonsu made up the Theban Triad, who were usually associated with hidden things
or the wind.

SETH, SET, SETESH, TYPHON, SUTEKH
|
Egyptian, Greek, Roman. Another son of Get and Nut, Seth was a powerful god of the desert and the evil sibling of Osiris. He was believed to be the
"incarnation of wickedness." When he is called Typhon, he is associated with abominable animals such as the pig, donkey, and
hippopotamus. He was portrayed as a strange creature with a forked tail, a long, guant body, a snout, bulging eyes and large erect ears. He
also had the title of "The Lord of the Red Land," and was the cause of storms in Heru's sky.

SOKAR, SEKER, SOKARIS
|
Egyptian, Greek, Roman. Sokar's name meant "Adorned One." He is portrayed with as a mummified man with the head of a hawk. At first, he was the Lord of darkness
and death, but he later became a mysterious form of Ptach, and even later just a lord of death, judgment and burial.

THOR, DONAR, JOVE, JUPITER
|
Norse, Gerrnanic. Thor was the son of the oldest God, Odin. He was the God Thunder, Might, and War, and was highly reverred as
the patron and protector of warriors and peasants. He is often portrayed with a magically hammer and other magically clothing, and is
known as a fearless, powerful, and ancient diety. Germanic tribes associated him with Jove and changed Jove's Day to Thor's Day (Thursday).

YU, YU-HUANG-SHANG-TI
|
Chinese. Yu is present in Chinese mythology and legend. He was known as the Supreme Emperor of Jade. His court was supposedly
located in heaven's highest level. He was original considered to be the Sun God, and made men out of clay. He also can hear and see
everything.
