White Granite

White Granite

Mohs: 6-7

This igneous rock contains feldspar, mica, quartz, and hornblende. This is called white granite, because there is an excess of feldspar and clear mica to make it appear whiter than normal granite. Of course, white granite has a white streak due to the fact that it has a lot of feldspar. This rock has a Mohs rating of 6-7, because it cannot scratch steel, yet it can scratch glass. White granite is made in pretty much the same way as regular granite. Magma, that is high in quartz, flows in to the Earth’s crust and cools. The longer it cools, the more minerals there are to develop.
