Personal traits:  Lives up to the usual beliefs about engineers; highly confident in his ability to understand the ship and its systems and adjust and control them from the largest and most powerful to the smallest and least significant.  When on duty, especially in times of what many would consider great stress, this trait is highly noticable and often leads people to wonder how he can remain calm.  The reason is that he not only believes he can do something but knows what he (and his teams) can and can't do and acts upon that knowledge.  As a result, stress takes little hold and action is quick to be taken.

Personality: Being the child of a 1/2 Vulcan father and a human mother each with separate careers on separate worlds, his childhood and education were split between Earth and Vulcan.  This led to many conflicts in youth which resolved themselves as he neared adulthood.  While having accepted some aspects of vulcan philosophy, he has adjusted the vulcan training of the mind to benefit a human approach to life.  Emotions are a part of his life, yet  are often based upon intellectual reason and feeling in how they are to be expressed, acted upon, and evolved.  A firm belief in "gut instinct," he is never-the-less skeptical of sudden strong emotions and attempts to confirm they are as they appear to be before taking action.

Hobbies: Military History, models demonstrating laws of physics, model ship building, musical performance and appreciation, sword collecting, fencing, and tinkering with any broken electrical or mechanical device that makes it his way.  Observers note: Anything that is not at least 99.9% efficient must be broken.

Place of Birth: Vulcan
Home planet: Earth

Early Life: The only child of a leading Vulcan nuclear engineer and a Human physicist, Korsod's upbringing was anything but normal.  His parents met on Vulcan while his mother was taking advanced courses at the Academy of Advanced Scientific Knowledge, at which his father was an instructor. At the age of two, his mother was recalled to Earth by Starfleet when she had completed her studies and her accumulated shore-leave had been expended. With neither parent very willing to take lengthy time off from their high profile careers, the mother sought a severance to the marriage when Korsod was 5 and from that age on he switched regularly every couple years between his father's residence on Vulcan and his mother's home on Earth. The difficulty in transition between educational forms required him to learn to adapt quickly to sudden change in social situations and balance the cultures of the logically superior Vulcans and emotionally-laden Terrans. The parents both emphasized an importance in scientific knowledge and comprehension of numbers and encouraged Korsod's early interest to know how things work.

Academy Life: Passing the Academy entry exam at the age of 17 in 2369, Cadet Magstrom performed with the diligence and skill his educational background had taught him leading him to rise early into the top 5% of his class.  In his second year at the Academy he received a perfect score for his performance in the wilderness survival drill where he, along with his close friend and fellow engineering major Cadet Juan Sibila, worked together to establish an efficient and impressive camp within 24 hours.  By the third day most of the other cadets in the group of 20 that had been involved in this drop had joined them and helped build and improve upon the now communal camp.  While one would have hoped people would do so on grounds of helping one another, it has been well understood in the stories told since that most joined for the luxuries they lacked: fish caught from the nearby stream and cooked over the fires kept burning in the middle of camp and, most importantly, the fire itself which many had been unable to get going successfully on their own.  His 3rd and 4th years at the Academy, however, saw his scores drop noticably as he directed most of his attentions to his advanced engineering courses, leading him to take a 5th year at the Academy to improve his knowledge and scores in security and basic medical training. As this would require only half of his time in one semester, he spent the other half of the first semester studying military tactics and history and spent his second semester of that year in basic command training.  His performance in command scenarios earned him a recommendation for Command Officer School, which he declined in order to get out in the field as an engineering officer.  He graduated with scores placing him in the 67th percentile of his class in 2373 and received his commission to Ensign in 2374 after his 5th year at the academy when he received his first official assignment.

Major Area of Study: Engineering, with a focus on the nuclear and electrical
schools.
Minor Area of Study: Celestial navigation and maneuvering, starship helm
control.

Cadet Cruise: Assigned to the USS Venture, at the time under the command of Captain Richard Udon, Midshipman Magstrom served four months aboard the vessel. The first month saw him serving as the duty officer over the galaxy class ship's saucer module's fusion auxilary reactors on the graveyard shift.  The following month Korsod was assigned to the system maintenance division and, for the final two months of the tour, filled an engineering support role.  Nothing of significant note occured beyond the expected objectives of the Venture's diplomatic missions being fulfilled as planned.  While performing the light duty involved as auxilary generator duty officer, the midshipman familiarized himself in person with the operation of the fusion reactor systems aboard, their safety features, and their connection, association, and role with the power grid of the ship.  The officer supervising him at this time reports that Korsod consistently reported ontime and accompished all shift goals without problem.  It should also be noted that while no specific connection can be drawn to any action of Korsod's, ship engineering records indicate that inefficiency of the fusion reactors was reduced by 28% (from 93.0% efficiency to 94.5%) over the time of his activity in that area.

Shortly after being transferred to ship maintenance the Venture entered dry-dock for engine upgrades and warp coil replacement.  Midshipman Magstrom was temporarily transferred from his duties repairing and monitoring residential systems (replicators, laundry, and the like) to assist with the hardwiring and trouble-shooting of the new deuterium and anti-matter injector systems for the Matter/Anti-matter Reaction Chamber.  Upon review of his performance in this area, he was officially transferred from residential systems maintenance to ship engineering support assisting with the trouble-shooting team shaking down the new MARC and associated power systems.  After a month in this capacity he was placed in command of one of the teams helping to install and calibrate the new warp coils, despite his as yet being commissioned or being a full member of the crew.  Korsod then returned to the trouble-shooting team where he continued to serve through the rest of the stay in dry-dock and for the first three weeks of shakedown field operations.

Upon conclusion of his tour of duty he caught transport back to Starfleet Academy with a note of commendation from Captain Udon and Lt. Commander Erikson, the chief engineer.  In addition, Commander Erikson submitted records to Starfleet indicating the exemplary performance of Midshipman Magstrom in aiding with the installation and shakedown and providing his strong recommendation that the midshipman, once passed and receiving of a commission, be permitted to exercise his skills in that area.

Summary of Starfleet Service:
In 2374 after completion of his fifth year courses at Starfleet Academy Passed Midshipman Korsod Magstrom received assignment to Trinity Shipyards where, at the time of his reporting, he received his commission to the rank of Ensign and was assigned to lead a dry-dock team specializing in warp field calibration on repairs and new projects.  In 2376 Ensign Magstrom was transferred to the main Warp Technologies Department office where he performed office support roles while taking an advanced course in Engineering Development and training in Handing, Storage, and Usage of Anti-deuterium and other anti-matter elements and products.  In 2377, shortly after completion of the course and training, he received a promotion to Lieutenant, Junior Grade and was reassigned in the Department to his present position as an MARC and Injection Systems Specialist Officer helping oversee development and installation of Matter/Anti-matter Reaction Chambers (commonly referred to as the "warp core").  As the resident expert in anti-matter handling operations he also makes a point to personally oversee the anti-matter fueling and re-fueling of any starship at Trinity Shipyards.  His most recent accomplishment has been his first job in overall charge of an installation operation: the installation of the MARC and associated systems to the USS Dauntless, an Interpid-refit class starship nearing completion at the shipyard.

Family:
Father- Soren, Nuclear Engineer.  Currently Dean of Physical Sciences at the
Academy of Advanced Scientific Knowledge
Mother- Mary, Physicist, Commander in Starfleet.  Currently serving as a
Starfleet liason to the Federation's OSHA Department.
Siblings- None

Marital Status- Unmarried
Children- None

People from The Past:
Juan Sibila - Roommate at the Academy, fellow engineer.  Presently serving aboard the USS Challenger, NCC-64112

David Anderson - Friend from high school on earth.  He and Korsod used to find unconventional ways of disassembling and/or building things together (once taking apart an old steel skeleton of an automobile from an ancient junkyard and reassembling it so that the frame of the car was covering the desk making it impossible to access except by crawling on all fours).  The two were never caught.

Additional Comments: As an engineer Lieutenant Magstrom is considered to be highly efficient and productive.  As an officer he is considered to be highly concerned with the well-being and continued training of the men and women under his command.  As an individual, he is known to be rather reclusive though he makes occassional public musical performances at the Shipyards and has never been known to turn down an opportunity to fence against a worthy opponent, or train an unworthy one.
