The Church of Aunt Beru

What's all this crap aboot "Owen and Beru"? It's "BERU AND HER HANGER-ON OWEN", obviously. Beru first stole our hearts and souls in Ep4, back when it didn't have a number. She was way better than Owen, the useless layabout she was married to, and as such was quite obviously worthy of Obi-Wan Kenobi, with whom she was blatantly having an affair. There was a tangible chemistry between the two, and they clearly had a History. (Well, they had more of a connection than the viceroy returning with another droid army...) Doubtless this History was rekindled by her dull and unsatisfying marriage to the dull and unsatisfying Owen.
Now Beru is to be in Ep2. However, let us ignore this, as they have cast a kid. And They will almost certainly neglect the subtle undertones of her character and her romance wik Obi. This is what happens when you allow George Lucas to interpret the characterisations in his own film. He will get it wrong.
Let us remember the life of Aunt Beru, rather than focussing on her gruesome death. She was the matriarchal protector of Luke Skywalker, annoying blonde farmboy-turned-Jedi. We should try to forget than it was he who caused her death by letting Owen pick Those Specific Droids. There was no way Luke could have known that his fondness for "the blue one" would lead to the massacre of his family.
But of course, she was not his family. Luke's family were bizarre and twisted, and he was sent to live with Beru and Owen. Unlike Owen, Beru quickly adapted to this new role of mother-figure. While Owen turned to drink and drugs, Beru cared for Luke as though she actually gave a damn whether he lived or died. Her only distraction from her duty was the torrid affair she was having with Obi-Wan Kenobi.
As Beru lived her life of dull servitude in a sand-pit, she bore the burden of Luke with a warm heart and a chirpy grin. She never beat up on the kid, and only rarely spat in the lukewarm blue milk she served to her household.
