| The three color illustrations on this page are a fusion of my underwater photography and printmaking background. Using imagery from my photography, I sketch out a design on a block of linoleum. I then carve the block, all uncarved areas are where the ink will remain when the block is printed. This process is repeated for every color used (all prints on this page are two-color prints). Each block is then inked and run through an etching press individually, resulting in slight variations that make each print unique.
I studied printmaking while at Stanford under the Mexican-born painter and printmaker Enrique Chagoya, and have just recently aquired access to a press where I can continue to explore my interest in this medium. Limited edition, handmade prints are available for purchase, please check the order page for further information. Thank you for your interest! The black and white illustrations were commisioned by Berkley White, owner of Backscatter in Monterey, Ca, a vendor of underwater photography equipment. They are used on company t-shirts. Please contact me if you are interested in commisioning an illustration. Elijah S. Woolery All images in this site copyright Elijah Woolery & Out of the Deep Blue.
