Results of Past Figure Skating Polls

Well, this is where all the old polls get put out to pasture. Want to see who the fans' favorite was for the 2000 World Championships? What about the best and worst dressed skaters? If you see a poll that you didn't get to participate in, email me, and if enough people gripe, I might run it again (if it's not one of those prediction things)....

Well, the Worlds are over with, and there were a few surprises. Looks like most of you favored Irina Slutskaya on the ladies side, and Alexei Yagudin on the mens (though Plushenko had a respectable showing). As we all know, Slutskaya settled for the silver, and two-time champ Michelle Kwan took her third World title. Both Kwan and Butyrskaya had a moderate showing in the poll, though Slutskaya was the clear favorite. No one voted for Sarah Hughes, Angela Nikodinov, or Vanessa Guismerolli, none of whom ended up medalling.

Alexei Yagudin did win his third consecutive world title (a 3-peat, as the ABC commentators seem fond of saying). I must say, that although I agree with the comments about Yagudin's superior spins and artistry, I fully expected Plushenko to storm through with his 4-3-2 combo and win the title. When Yagudin skated shakily throughout his program (although he landed two quads), and then fell on his final triple Lutz, I thought that it would be a walk-over for Plushenko. Who would have thought that Evgeny would miss his quad and make so many other mistakes? If I had been the judge, I probably would have placed him in third, right behind Elvis Stojko, but the judges chose to place him a disastrous (for him) fourth. As far as the poll goes, Yagudin was strongly favored by the participants, with Plushenko a rather distant second. One of you favored Elvis Stojko, and considering that he won the silver, that wasn't too far off the mark. No one voted for Weiss, Goebel, Guo, or Honda. I realize, of course, that a meager number of you participated in these two polls, so they are probably not the most accurate picture of the skating public. I hope to have more participants in the future....
