A genetic creation similiar to Max, but with Canine DNA. h was created before any of the X-5's. He was the prototype. He escaped from his cell when he was a child. Joshua is basically living in a reformed coal storage room. He is the leader and protctor of the Nomlies.

He met Max when she was trying to escape the compound.  He along with Alec helped her escape Manticore.  During the fire and explosion when Max was saving the X-series above, Joshua was helping his Nomlie friends below.  He escaped with them.
