KARAS ASSAULT
Part four of the Katet chronicles tells the tale of the heroic teams attempts to reinstate the Throgmorton lineage upon the throne of Karas.The island of Karas is far north of Katet and a dangerous sea journey seperates the two countries.Worried about the effect of an influx of fortune seekers,the rulers of Katet had discouraged any form of sea exploration and thus the two lands were virtually unaware of each others existance.
The tale picked up where the whole group had finally reformed after their various exploits which are related in part 2, "Tangletoes and the trapper "and the mini adventures of part three "tomb of the titans".Tangletoes told them about Throgmortons request for aid and also explains that Throgmorton will die unless he is taken to Kenzer ,an engineer who can remove the death scarab placed around the princes heart by Traxus (part 2 "the trouble with Traxus")
At the end of the" Trouble with Traxus section"Throgmorton was in a bad way with the death scarab around his heart.He was taken to the great grove where he was healed by the powers within. He explained that the scarab was used to control enemies by the black wizards who had arrived in the obsidian lands ,just to the south of his island state home of Karas.They had been allowed to do so unnapposed as the land was not fertile and the wizards did not seem to be a threat.After many years they began demanding slaves and tributes.When this was refused they sent raiding parties of foul demonic goblins and dire orcs.These raiders carried off many people. This carried on for many years,every year the wizards sent one of their number,a heavily cloaked person named Venom to demand the surrender of the kingdom and the tribute of slaves.Every year they demanded the same thing,every year it was refused.
The wizards used fear ,terror and the shadow vampires to try and force Karas' kings to agree to their demands. One year however, a group of elven knights ,lead by Elghorahn,arrived in Karas city.They faced down Venom who seemed very frightened at the sight of elves.He fled and the elves organised an army to drive the raiders into the narrow channel of water between Karas and back into the obsidian lands.
The knights became protectors of the people and were given Faerlight castle,which overlooked a long stretch of the southern coast.There they stayed and the raids virtually ceased.For almost two centuries peace reigned on the island.But the seeds of bitterness and resentment were sown by agents of the wizards.Whispers of "Elvish conspiracies" and influencing the king,were being heard all over the lands.Pretty soon an anti -elven movement was growing,demanding that any of elvish taint be removed to the wastelands to the north west of the island.The current king ,Throgmortons father,was outraged.He was due to marry Elghorahns daughter ,Druilla,a half elf.His reaction was to send an army to "deal" with the northern barons who seemed to be leading the movement.The army rebelled though and soon the king "dissappeared".Throgmorton was installed as the new monarch.He was certain his father was being held somewhere,(an ancient curse would be invoked on any who killed a Throgmorton ,so he was sure his father lived).He sent word to the elven knights at Faerlight castle,to be on their gaurd against treachery.A representative council of the northern barons arrived,demanding he inititiate the ethnic cleansing programme,When the prince refused,he was arrested and sold to dwarf slavers.Through a series of events he ended up being snatched from the village of dranforth by the alien creatures in 7 hells deep who used him as a slave.It was in 7 hells where he was rescued by our heroes.
The council agreed that the party should assist and gave them leave to travel to Khalil to secure a ship and crew for the journey .
