The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King Preview
Highly fictional movies have become all the rage these days. From superheroes to warlocks to hobbits, these movies have opened up our imagination, as well as our wallets. Electronic Arts, along with Hypnos Entertainment, aim to drain even more from our pockets with The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. The movie itself won't be out until next Christmas, but gamers are already waiting in anticipation for the second game in this series. While many considered The Two Towers a good game, for others there was something left to be desired. Hypnos aims to please with a plethora of new features, including new levels, characters, and gameplay enhancements.
Features
·New characters and locations from Middle-Earth.
·Cooperative two player in story mode.
·Bigger and badder enemies.
·Multiple path variations and more secrets.
Gameplay
Those who have played The Two Towers should automatically recognize The Return of the King. While many gameplay elements will remain the same, Hypnos will be adding several features that were not seen in the previous game. One of these features is several new playable characters to go along with the returning characters. The current list of characters includes but is not limited to: Samwise, Frodo, Aragorn, Gandalf, Legolas, and Gimli. With The Return of the Kng, you will also be able to share your experiences in the game with a friend, as it will feature a Co-Op mode. There will also be unique locations in the game, including several different path variations that your character can take. This should open up gameplay quite a bit, allowing for multiple amounts of different kinds of enemies, along with the possibility of multiple bosses per level. New gameplay techniques will be added as well, including using your character to perform such tasks as winding up a catapult, or other things with objects according to the level you are playing. The moves of the characters will be more refined, and more suited to each individual. There will be more moves too, which means you will be needing more experience points.
Visuals
The Return of the King will be featured on all three next generation consoles, and the graphics show it. The three versions of the game will look basically the same, save for a few minor graphical enhancements here or there for the Gamecube. The graphics are a mixture of 3D backgrounds and static backgrounds, allowing for a feel that makes you believe that you are in Middle-Earth. Each location in the game will sport a likeness from the movie, with a special unique touch that only the video game can bring. With The Return of the King, levels can be much larger, allowing for loads of detail to be added. These details will only add to the overall beauty and feel of the game, making you even more immersed in the world around you. Character models will be improved. You will need to go through each level while hordes of different kinds of characters fight (or scream, or run around flailing their arms) around you.
Prospects
If this game is anyone near as good as its predecessor, then The Return of the King should be an enjoyable experience through the different locales found in Middle-Earth. With new characters, moves, and levels to tear through, The Return of the King looks to be a game that can be enjoyed by yourself, or with a friend. Time will tell if this newest game will be able to live up the standards put before it, but if this preview has been any sort of indication, then look for this game to be on your "to get" list very soon.
